Is there a name for the automated combat in WOW, GW, KOTOR?

I can't find the thread where I asked this so I have to ask it again. Games like WOW, GW, KOTOR and probably many others have quite a bit of the combat automated. I played a bit of WOW and KOTOR and they are highly automated. As soon as you get in combat range, you can lean back in your chair and watch. I'm told GW is less automated. I hope that's true because I'm going to try GW. I'd like to know if there is a name for this type of combat so if I see it in the description of a game, I'll know what they're talking about. Thanks.

By automated your basic attack is automated and you will move into range of your target.

Its still up to the player to choose a target, use skills, leg it etc

Well, if you want, you can select a target, hit attack and wait. It won't be much fun, and not very effective. That's as automated as it gets in GW.

Skills are up to you to use or not. Movement is the same. With the exception of following a target, all movement is done by the player.

Well, it mostly starts that way. You create a new character, get a stick, press 'C' to target the nearest red dot, press 'space' to run in and start whacking. Then you get some skills and find out that using them properly may require some skill but overall, you're better off with them than without. Then, you'll get henchmen, and possibly later, heroes which are your personal henchmen whose equipment and skills you can choose by yourself. Then you press 'C' to target the nearest red dot, press 'space' to attack and the heroes and henchmen take care of the rest while you enjoy the scenery/fetch a cup of coffee/browse these forums. Or then possibly not, you never know with the henches. They steal loot, too

Unlike WoW, GW requires you to constantly activate skills in either a offensive or defensive nature to be effective in combat. Once your character is locked on to a target he will attack it by right-clicking or pressing spacebar.

This attack is basically useless in PvP and level 20 areas because super weapons doesn't exist in GW. For you to be effective you have to constantly activate skills that will enhance the damage your character inflicts. These skills have a quick cast time as well as a relatively fast cool down period.

I remember from the little a played WoW, that some skills had a cool down of 60 minutes plus 0.o

Thus I believe that combat in GW is a whole lot more exciting than, for instance, WoW. Try monking in high-level areas when someone has agroed three mobs, now that will put hair on your chest. (but still a rewarding experience when your team makes it out alive.)

If you simply press "C+space" then your char will auto attack the nearest foe, but will not use any skills, will not change targets if that one dies and will not self heal. In other words you might hit the target enough to kill it then just stand still and do nothing till your dead.

Thanks for all the info. It confirms what I had been told about GW - that the combat is less automated and therefore more fun. I find combat in WOW and KOTOR too easy and boring. However, none of the responses actually answered my question. My question was, is there a name for this type of combat? Thanks.

Thes no such name in GW as far as I can tell apart from the usual term C-spacing whcih comes to mind (just a description that you press "C" then "space". lol).

As for the other games; Ill have to pass on them as Ive never played them before.

If you want interactive games, play basketball, football, tennis, or similar.

In WoW, your level determines the winner. In GW, your skill does. Of course, this also means you are not guaranteed a victory, and you cannot grind to superiority.

If you suck and refuse to learn, you simply won't pass certain parts, unless you get someone to run you through. If you're good, then the game will seem easy and you can work on optimizing the builds and gameplay to play more efficiently.
