doesn't it download the bare minimum for the client that they offer from the website, and then you download the zones as you go? other wise the download would take all night.

Just so you know, you need a License Key (or whatever) to play GW, so if you don't have one, don't bother downloading it.
If you do have a License Key, download the client, then right-click the shortcut and put -image at the end of the command line. It downloads all the files you will ever need to load, which is nice.
Mine is 3,679,502 KB in size, even after -image. How do you guys get it so big?

By playing and not refreshing the .dat file for months, I suppose
And yeah, the -image thing is recommended, otherwise you have to wait between loading zones, and it will drive your party nuts

A shortcut to GW should have the target field look something like this:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
Placing a -image will make it look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
Placing a -image will make it look like this:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

Could it be because the .dat file on my laptop is newer, since GW hasn't been on it for so long? So useless stuff like Amnoon Arena and stuff are gone?

I did the -image thing when I installed GW on the comp, and it was about 3.5Gb. Then it just kept adding stuff.

There was a silent streaming update the other day that (supposedly) added the BMP, that was 31mb. My dat file is 3,714,546.
