Since the first time I've entered this forums this always meant: "I can't understand this suggestion, but it will probably change the game, since I fear change, I don't like it'.

At least give a reason. Just saying 'epic fail' do not make something more or less valid.

Anyone with half a sense understand why this is epic failure. Change is good only if the change itself is good. This offsets balance and basic game mechanics.
If you want a sword, just equip one. Don't have range attack? Too bad.

If the whole point is the looks, just go fiddle with the graphics so it appears on your screen like you're holding a sword (or a bazooka, or a pie, or whatever) I believe that's allowed by the eula

Would very very cool.

To all you losers telling us to use TexMod, hey, guess what, TexMod MODIFIES TEXTURES, it does NOT move around objects or mesh files.

Casters already equip swords even if they don't actually use them for fighting but then again who tries to wand their opponent to death anyway? It wouldn't add anything to the game to give casters a melee weapon because that would just lead to players not using their profession properly, and only changing the looks so you'd have a staff or wand that looks like a sword that fires projectiles, that's just silly.
