Post your hex shutdown builds!
Fuzzy Taco
hey guys!
one of the necromancer's most viable options at the moment is a hex shutdown build. there are many different options in this kind of build, so i'm interested to see what you guys like to run!
For unorganized PvP, i like to run something with plenty of self sufficiency, via Shadow Arts.
AB:
14 curses - 12+1+1
10 Shadow Arts
9 Soul Reaping - 8+1
[skill]Corrupt Enchantment[/skill][skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill][skill]Reckless Haste[/skill][skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill][skill]Desecrate Enchantments[/skill][skill]Shadow Refuge[/skill][skill]Heart of Shadow[/skill][skill]Dash[/skill]
for RA, replace Desecrate with a rez sig. i like it because of its solid self healing and kiting utility.
for organized PvP, i like to focus on a wider-based, more team-oriented build.
14 Curses
10 Earth Magic
9 Soul Reaping
[skill]Corrupt Enchantment[/skill][skill]Parasitic Bond[/skill][skill]Reckless Haste[/skill][skill]Faintheartedness[/skill][skill]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill][skill]Ward against Melee[/skill][skill]Ward against Foes[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]
i love wards, and melee shutdown is always nice.
your turn!
P.S. feel free to criticize my builds, i can't say the same for others' builds.

Spiteful Spirit, Insidious Parasite, Backfire, Empathy = Damage Dealing Skills
Lifebane Strike, Vampiric Gaze, Signet of Lost Souls = Healing Skills
Resurrection Signet = Res
Empathy and Insidious Parasite work great at eating away chunks of health from harder foes. I love seeing massive amounts of damage numbers (greater than any rit or ele spike to one foe) above Shiro Tagachi's head! But it doesn't stop there, you have Triple Chop/Cyclone Axe warriors and Scythe Dervs. Or... instead of stacking em, try placing each hex on a different foe, which makes the entire party ur fighting tons easier.
IMO, This build far surpasses any spike that be done with a conventional elementalist or ritualist.
Other than that, new to guru, so just trying to get some input out there.

I love this build. Please explain how this is supposed to work... I just dont get it... You cast reckless haste on someone.. and then you use faintheartedness on him? I just dont see the purpose in hexing your opponent with an IAS and then taking it away again with Faintheartedness...
I use in RA

Ip is for one meleer, say a sin.. And Price of Failure and Reckless Haste are for another meleer. Sometimes I switch out [skill]Insidious Parasite[/skill] for [skill]Enfeeble[/skill]. I like to keep Price of Failure and Reckless Haste on the same bar, cus they make an amazing combination.

You can hex more than one person, last time I checked. Why would you want the person to attack faster, if you throw both on - the "bonus" from reckless haste of taken anyway leaving only the negative effects on the target (miss chance and slower attack speed).

And this is for RA that looks like an interesting build. i've been running SV lately with Disrupting Dagger, and interrupts really make a difference. i assume Nat. stride and spreading parasitic bond keep survivability high?

Yep, and d-shotting a nasty spell or a Res Sig is the best kind of self heal for RA.

The whole bar doesn't have to be for one foe, but I normally would cast RH + PoF on a melee'r after they take some damage from auto attacking I cast Faintheart and if they're still attacking they are too stupid and will die in a few seconds or they'll stop and back away with degen on them, if they cast Healing Breeze or some other enchant I'll cast CE on them.
The build is really solid, one of the most solid builds I've used in AB for my necro.
And I do love Dark Escape + Feigned Neutrality, half damage and +80 armor + regen and the + health from PB. It's hard to die with this build unless you run out of juice or are caught off guard.

i commend most builds that i see here and in-game. most of these builds will rain hell on most physical attackers. but i must point out that i rarely ever come across a build that can effectively deal with threats from both physical and caster. usually they are built against one or the other. in the end, they end up failing or useless because they do not spec against the other half of the equation when you really need them to.
personally, imo, insidious parasite and plague touch should be on a bar if for nothing else, self-defense and survivability and virtually only used when you are the focus of the physical attacker. anything extra for dealing with physical is purely for support of your ally. this will leave you with 5 skill slots left (provided that you have a res skill) to tend to either more physical attackers, casters and yourself. those remaining skills should be the most effective ones you can think of that will give you the highest chance of success.

Yes, I'd cut Spiteful Spirit for Enfeebling Blood if I had to. People usually tend to listen to Carinae and Ensign when they make such strong statements, I certainly did. EDIT: As pointed out below, the above quotes were referring to Enfeebling Blood's use in PVE. Pyro maniac

Trvth: Simply put, you are quoting a PvE centred thread.
Very valid points in that respect, because weakness on PvE mobs it ftw. The Hex Shutdown builds in this thread so far are referring to PvP Condition removal is far less common from a PvE nasty ~ Fuzzy Taco
Shadow's right. Enfeebling blood is arguably the greatest Curses skill in the game - for PvE. in PvP, for reason mentioned above, it's less popular.

EDIT: As pointed out below, the above quotes were referring to Enfeebling Blood's use in PVE. Weakness in PvP is just a waste. In PvE, yes it has it's uses especially if playing Hard Mode, but it's a waste of a skill slot and energy to use it in PvP which if you haven't figured out is the topic of this thread because hex shutdown is pointless in PvE. Trvth Jvstice
jrk247, I don't play PVP, but I have seen shutdown used in PVE, though dmg dealing or support may have been better. I used a lot of hex shutdown when I was helping with the Dragons Lair bonus, Glint.

Wut? why?
Glint only has 2 skills you just need to bring D-shot and another locking skill like [wiki]Signet of Distraction[/wiki] and she goes down real easy. And personally I like(d) [skill=text]Psychic Instability[/skill] however since the recharge on skills that interupt on attack has been nerfed in favor of then being AoE, you need a team build to use effectively. and think [skill=text]Mark of Subversion[/skill] would be really cool if it got buffed.
