Rubies
Ken34
are these farmeable besides in the UW or FOW? how do you guys go about getting your rubies when you need them? do you suck it up and pay all that cash or do you have ways of getting rubies cheaper/more efficiently?
malko050987
Usually, you can find people selling some. Not that often, but it happens.
You can get them as drops from the Hulking Elementals in Old Ascalon, but I've only gotten one in 100+ runs, so it's not reliable.
Farming for cash and buying them seems to be the best option.

You need to be insanely lucky for that to work consistently, right? Like r3/4 in Wisdom and Treasure.
I've salvaged quite a lot of ruby Mauls, and never got a Ruby.

Put a "Highly Salvagable" inscription on a set of Ruby daggers and your chance increase drastically. I get 1 in 5 usually.
Antheus
Given the drop rate, buying them is the most efficient way.
Skinny Corpse
I've been farming the Beetles in HM in Mirror of Lyss for the geode drops, wich
with some luck can be salvaged into gems.. but they can be a bit frustrating as
they're insane with their interrupts.

If you do insist on trying to farm these, here are the locations to do so:
Prophecies: Stone Elementals outside Sardelac Sanitarium
Nightfall: Farming Djinn in the Hidden City of Ahdashim
Nightfall: Farming Rain Beetles outside of Dzagonur Bastion
Nightfall: Farming Rain Beetles outside the Mirror of Lyss
Nightfall: Farming Rain Beetles in the Holdings of Chokhin (Added)
Those are your best bets and not that much of a long shot. The first two being the better options. Trying to farm Rain Beetles for Geodes can be less successful.

Memphis Rain
Add Holdings of Chokhin to the list of places, start from Mihanu Township and make your way to Tenezel the Quick and then around the back way, altogether there are about 20-30 Rock/Rain Beetles to kill for Geodes, and this run can be done with the Spirit Bond/Smite monk set up.

The stone eles are how I do mine, I usually pull 800-1k+granite+charcoal every run and maybe every 75 runs or so Ill get a ruby. I usually just buy them though -.- or buy trade contracts...
Sister Rosette
It's a ridiculously low chance, but you can also salvage them out of Ruby Djinn Essences. But the chances are 1/30, at best.

Go into a place with lots of monsters that drop ruby/jeweled daggers like the hidden city.
Even white daggers will salvage into gems. This is how I got all my rubies for vabbian armor on my mesmer.
Jeweled daggers seem to be a lot better then ruby weapons way better. I've been 3/4 on some jeweled daggers where maybe 1/5 on ruby daggers.
Imo buy jeweled not ruby daggers

ok rubies r no longer a prob 4 me thanks 2 this thread
but now wat about saphires?

I usually just buy the sapphires...
Abedeus
Sapphires drop pretty often from Old Ascalon's elementals.
But you can buy them... And by the way, buy also something like a dictionary. Wat is not a correct for of ,,what'', dots and big letters do exist, R is not a word.

Imo buy jeweled not ruby daggers you salvage the ruby daggers with expert salvage kits right? how often would you say they turn into rubies? cause i am getting no luck currently.

Marverick
Go to Hidden City of Ahdashim HM and kill the Djinns in the courtyard, keep all the Jeweled/Ruby Daggers/Mauls and Iridescent/Diamond Aegises you get, put Measure for Measures on them and salvage. I'm at 7/9 with those right now just salvaging those that I come by, seems to be most reliable way to "farm them" specifically. And if you don't get the ruby you still get a load of dust which for some reason is actually worth something now.
The Far Shooter
Rubies DO drop in UW as I have got 2 rubies in one run from Smite Crawlers. This was after like 50 runs and I have never got one since and never had got one before that.

Actually, every mob in the game has a chance of dropping a Sapphire/Ruby/Diamond. Bots are farming Wardens for items/materials (a lot of Fur). Sapphires are cheaper because in one of the end-dungeon chests there was a 100% chance for Diamond and everyone farmed it (Frostmaw? Heart of the Shiverpeaks?), but it got changed to random, like all chests.

I got my first ever ruby drop farming Hulking Stone Elementals outside Sardelac Sanitarium in HM
My first run, too

I usually get my gems from buried treasure in Elona and trading Trade Contracts, my first gem drop was a Ruby in the FoW, that and UW is where I got most of my gem drops then again I'm not actively hunting for them right now.
BTW I do have a question: Why are Rubies currently more expensive then Sapphires? They are used with Sapphires for armor, and they should have an equal chance of dropping monsters and salvaging right? (with the exception of ruby weapons)

(with the exception of ruby weapons) i agree, but im not complaining that saphires are cheaper, lol. but what i have a problem with, is why at one point were rubies more expensive than Ectos? i recall checking a material trader and seeing rubies at 6.6k...then a few days later it went back down.

I dunno the general trend I'm seeing is that Rubies are usually 5k and Sapphires are 2-2.5k from the Rare Material Trader, Just curious why that's the case.
shrouded^god
Rubies 4.8k-5.5k
Saps 3.1-3.8k
Ectos 4.7-4.8k
I see rubies higher than ectos quite often

I'd say that's because ectos are a lot easier to farm, and the only reason people still want to buy is because the UW is hard to solo for a few people and the amount of ectos needed for FoW armor is stupid.
Ken34
Just got a blue jeweled dagger drop from a heket, it came with a measure for measure inscript, so i expert salvaged it, and it salvaged into a sapphire, pretty cool. thx for the info guys.
