The title is self explanitory How much faction does it usually take to own a city/town/outpost/thingy.

depends what faction, and what town. I think the lowest is 5mill+, but I haven't been in Cantha for ages.

I've seen some alliances own a city for 3.5 million, but that's if your faction is invading the other. To stay consistent, get at least 5 million. My alliance owns Altrumm; the alliance has 28 million and my guild has almost 5 million.

Click on a town on the world map, it'll tell you how much faction the Alliance which owns it has.

while i was in AB today, i beleive that i heard that [any] who owns cavalon had 63million. course this number is so high because of the double AB faction weekend. i think they usualy sit around 40 mil.

me and my alliance made gw history ! we reached an amazing 97 million faction WOW the good ol days.

but you'll be needing at least 6 mill to hold the lowest town

There is no fixed amount required. I not 100% sure how it works, but, AFAIK it's all based on some ranking system where Alliances with the most faction get to control the largest/best/choice towns/outposts and then, the next highest, etc.
