So i'm just wondering why in the hell A.net would allow people in Asian to have both english and asian characters in their names but only english for ppl that live in North America. It seems really unfair and stupid because there are asian players in north america but are limited to only english. A.net seems to favor the asian players anyways by giving them chances for ridicliously rare min pets while players in north america are left with stupid magazines to pick up mini asuras and mini destroyers. JUst wondering if any1 knows a way around this rule, like changing your ip address temporarly to an asian ip address so that people in north america have the free will of making a character with asian characters. and yes im asian. im south korean .

I could be wrong here, but I believe at this point in time, it isn't uncommon for people in Asia to include some English characters in online communications. Remember, until very recently, you could only surf the web in english, and domains are still like 99% english only. Thus, it is pretty much a requirement to have english characters in your online communications, while the same can't be said for Chinese/Korean/Japanese ones...

Were you born in South Korea or America?
Anyway, they can write in both normal characters and their symbols, while English speakers can only write in normal characters.

I think it has something to do with the server they run on. Since Korean/Taiwanese/Japanese Players play on other servers.
But no its not possible for you to have an asian name on an american server

I agree with you, and the only way to get an Asian name is to have an account that is from a copy of Guild Wars made for one of the Asian countries.
Seeing as how I live in an Asian majority city, here in the US, it just seems odd to me.
The counter is that in most Asian countries educated people can read both our phonecian alphabet as well as their own alphabets, but in the US only a few people can read other alphabets.
If I had a name using Korean characters, I could read it, but most of the people I game with could not, and would not have character sets in their OS that would let them type it. But if I'm in Korea and I use Phonecian characters (the western alphabet) anyone there can read it and type it. If I use a mix of Phonecian and hangul (the Korean alphabet), people there can still read and type it.

about asian gamers getting the better end of the deal, think again: never used to have favor, the total number of players couldn't even create 3 districts in la during events, most influential community PR speaks english, no online shop (so no BMP)... etc. You can take this from personal experience, if you had a choice, you definitely don't want to play on the asian servers.
Edit: not everyone gets minipets, they are promotional items too
