Maybe try to run them in Winamp? Or get that DvD to a friend of yours, test it and if you still don't hear sound... Check your dvd-rom.

I'm stumped.
If you were on Windows 98, I'd tell you to go attach your CD/DVD audio cable, but you don't need one these days.
If I had to take a guess, I'd blame Windows Media Player. Try VLC and see if that works. (Then you should probably keep on using VLC because it's free and has better sound and picture quality then windows media player.) If you don't have sound in VLC either, then we need to look for a more systematic problem.

i'm surprised you even got WmP to play a dvd without d/l codecs.
and if you did d/l codecs that might be your source of woes.

every version of WMP that I have ever used, even with the latest version included in vista has required me to d/l codecs for dvd playback. which is why, I never use it. if I'm gonna have to d/l codecs I may as well d/l a proggy that doesn't want to snoop around my comp. lol.
with WMP, it's sound and no vid...or no vid but sounds. if it will even read said media(w/o needed codecs).
