EotN v.s. Utopia
The Lurch
So I was looking up stuff on the official wiki, when I came acorss the article on Guild Wars: Utopia, the scrapped plan for C4. Now, reading it makes me think Anet coulda done better with EotN.
According to the article, one of the classes might have been a Chronomancer, a red mage type of character (in other words, a wizard who controls time). How cool would that be? That alone excites me!!
The Aztec type thing is what GW needed. The real life Aztecs were awesome enough, but GW versions of them would be ub3r 1337 pwn4g3 too! Huge pyramids with giant bosses on top of them, sparwling marketplaces bigger than Lions Arch, etc.
But the thing that interests me mostis the melee polearms, the one-handed maces, and the dual wielding of swords, axes, and spears, and even mounts (though I'm not so hyped about the latter). I'd much rather like more dual wielding capabilities and melee spears (though scythes are kinda like that) then dungeons. And, in Utopia, dungeons coulda been implemented too!
Now we are assuming alot about Utopia just from concept art and vague descriptions. But, IMO, all this sounds a helluva lot better then what we got in EotN. I'd like Gaile or someone to tell us more about what Utopia might have been like to see if im blowing what it coulda been out of proportion.
The main question here, would you have rather seen Utopia then EotN? I would.
You can read about Guild Wars: Utopia here.

Well, the thing is we ended up seeing GW:EN, not Utopia.

Utopia sounds great...time mage.....no wait...IMBA ....I smell AoE IAS's and IMS's >.>
Also GW Utopia probably could've done...so much more to the game.
Also, why the hell are they hiding part of the world from us >.> not cool.

Utopia evolved into what is supposed to be GW2.

PS I know Utopia wasn't a real name for the original C4, but I'm calling it that anyways.

You can't see me
The full Utopia would have been far too much content to release at this point in time. It would have hindered the release of GW2.. god forbid, but some people...
Bryant Again
I would've rather had another solid story added instead of a good short story and a bunch of dungeons.
Dunno about more professions, though.

id rather not think of somethin that Could have been done but didnt.
The Lurch
Utopia coulda been EotN+ some. EotN only had good replay ability, and then some, whereas Utopia would have had a good solid story, along with maybe dungeons and stuff. Plus the destroyers were crap IMO, we needed something better.
And, some people seem worried about how we could implement a new profession. Maybe make it only 1 new profession and you would have to work on your courrent charcter before you could make one? A time mage seems pretty high-class to me...? For example, you have to do a certain long quest line or something.
P.S. We are obviously not gonna get Utopia. I just wanna know if you think it woulda been better than EotN

What were the new professions?
Hyprodimus Prime
Chronomancer sounds cool. I got the perfect skill.
Lag Burst
Temporal Manipulation
Spell 25-.75-30
All nearby foes suffer JapanLag for 5...12 seconds.
Im not too fond of Aztec culture though.

Target bad player is sacrificed, their heart ripped out, and consumed by the other members of the team. This player loses all health and energy, and dies. All allies are healed for 4x that player's health, and energy is replenished by 2x of that player's energy. For 10 minutes, all allies gain 25% IAS, 20% HSR, HCT, 10% morale boost, and move 25% faster
I would have loved utopia.

I'm happy with EotN. The new profession sounds totally and completely imba no matter how you slice it. Time magic yeah that would be great in PvP. "I r stopping times so my assassin can gank you." Nah I like what we got just fine but maybe we'll see some of the other st\uff implemented in GW2 like dual weilding.

Heart Ripper [Elite]
25e, 1/4c, 60r
You touch target foe and inflict a Deep Wound for 7-21 seconds. If target foe dies from this skill the target foe creates a Well at the targets location. This Well grants a 33% increased attack speed, Skill Recharge and Casting time for all allies within the Well.

Oh, now I remember where I have heard that sort of thing recently.
Lord Sojar
Time Mage would have been cool.
Reverse Spell
Target elementalist's meteor shower/meteor is stopped in midair and turned the wrong way, thus whacking them in the head.
Time Freeze (Elite)
Time is frozen at target foes location. This foe cannot move, use skills, or attack. Your brain explodes.
Utopia's always have a hidden clause...

No point worrying about it at this point but yeah, much as I enjoy GWEN I'd have liked a whole chapter even more. Even more so in light of GW2 being more of a "true" MMO and thus of no real interest.

I guess RoF or RoD could be, but not really.
Sha Noran
They didn't scrap Utopia because it was a bad idea creatively, they scrapped it because it was a bad idea financially.

Let me introduce you to the best Water elite in the game!
Mirror of Ice. Read it carefully, it works on ONE spell. GG, /epicfailelite.

The dual wielding was actually dual-wielded or dual-handed weapons, like a 2-handed sword. I'd much rather see my character walking around with a huge friggin' sword that makes me scream "I'm a crazy SoB with a huge compensation sword!'
Oh yeah. But, nah, I like EotN, though I wish it offered more for PvP.
Hint, hint.

A lot of Utopia's art resources got dumped into EotN. More specifically, nearly all of the Asuran stuff is Utopia Aztec-Mesoamerican stuff (if you've finished O Brave New World, you've been on top of one of those pyramids).
A lot of the ideas they came up with for Utopia I'm pretty sure are going to end up in GW2. They're porting the title as more customizable, with less complexity creep (c'mon, 1234 skills in PvP, 10 classes, tons of mods, inscriptions, weapon types). So seeing a two-handed sword with say double-damage, or dual-wielded weapons (Kanaxai's Axes anyone?) is a good chance. They talk about emergent skills where your positioning relative to target changes the skill's effect. I'm seeing Cyclone Axe with more damage because both of your Axes just hit all adjacent foes.
And we await a more indepth feature list of GW2. Heck, a screenshot of the new engine in action. (I know they're raising the bar even further above WoW's sorry graphics)

I'd like to see new content - Utopia - long before GW2. Too much to hope for, i guess.

I think when they were looking at the mechanics and programming for Utopia, they dropped the idea altogether. It was probably too “grand,” of an idea. Even though I probably would prefer that, to some of the features of EotN.
One of the huge problems I found in EotN was the cliché factor. It felt like they were following some other fantasy gimmicks that have been used before.

Hmmmm, WTB Dimension Travelling Device to see what could have been...
GW:EN's story line is way too short for my liking.
It's a pity we got a cut-price release rather than the whole enchilada...

Rahja the Thief, good pointers though.. not suggesting to slit something, hey!
Which side your'e one, or something like. That came out of the blue, or something? or, in a way, never know, why? Off topic, sometings makes us angry, there's allways room for, being always the.. sry, no I can't handle the language... Time to learn, I guess. And a hell with this rant, just received, a call.
Not too nice. Point. The heck with it. Going though.. again this time.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they used Utopia assets for the Asuran areas.

i would have loved another chapter, though the continual expansion of the geopgraphy and mission areas was spreading the playerbase too thin.
I would have liked two new classes, but maybe they would not have been played much, or couldnt be easily implemented.
i like GW:EN, but i always want more

I don't care what could've been. They just better come big with GW2, what with all the time they saved and all.
