I had this thought about capes...
Tokimasa
I was talking with my guildies the other day, and I think it would be kinda cool if you could "age" your cape on individual characters. The guild would have a pristine cape design, but individual characters might have burned, tattered, or damages capes of the same design. The appearance (colors, logo, shape) would be the same, but there would just be some effects added to the damaged/worn capes.
It would be kinda cool, I think. I kinda doubt ANet would put it in GW1, though.

Hmm interesting concept. It would only work (in my opinion that is) if your armour did the same though. If you could pick what condition your armour is in I would agree to picking the condition of your cape. It just wouldn't make asthetic sense having pristine armour and a tatty cape... (Unless it was already designed that way)

"Worn" armor is also interesting. But it could be "explained" by saying that a warrior or such cares more about his weapons and armor than his cape.
Kattar
Worn armor would be interesting. But it's a short hop from worn armor to armor durability.
Tatile
Having 'worn' capes would be interesting and possibly fun, and the armour needn't match. It's prefectly normal for a person to take better care of their armour (it does after all protect them) than their cape, which is an accesory.
Selket
Maybe they should fix cape clipping (or lack thereof) issues first.

i like this idea, but it might be hard to do

I'll go for partial customization:
- Leader sets Icon, pattern, default trim, colors and default lenght.
- Then guild members can change trim and lenght, by paying 500..1k.

I'm not sure how that would work, though, as different guild members would have different trims and lengths. But having more cape options (another thread I saw here, dealing with choosing a cape style) is good. But I think adding wear marks to capes would be really cool, if not in GW1, then GW2. But either way, I hope ANet thinks about this, at least in the back of their minds.

what if you have to move through a pool of lava? no cape then? :P

The capes won't get damaged by the environment. Just each player can take the guild's cape and and a number of different effects to it, each of which represents damage and wear. Although color fading probably won't be an option, as the cape's colors help identify the guild.

I like the idea.
personally though I don't like capes on my warrior, I'd prefer the guild emblem appear on my chest or shield.
Or in towns I carry a standard banner instead.

I think it'd be interesting if we could have pink trim on the cape.

I think you should have a pure yellow cape that shows up automatically if you're an epic failure at this game.
Sort of like the dishonorable hex, but more noticeable.

I like this idea, but I seriously don't think this will be anywhere near number 1000 on ANET's to-do list. Nothing is really wrong with the capes, and improving them when they could be getting more servers for Aspenwood or developing a better economy would make some people mad. Look I admit this: I USED to play Runescape and the reason I got fed up with it is this: Jagex kept pumping in updates that no one wanted and didn't fix old stuff. We don't want another Jagex on our hands.

I personally would prefer to see enviroments affecting capes, if you burn it in lava you can ask Guild Lord for a replacement, or new guild NPC, Tailor
