I need a 1 handed melee weapon i can use to get right up against my target but i also want to enjoy the benefits of having +energy mods/inscribes on it.
Is this possible?

yea....there are inscriable weapons.....and there are inscriptions with +5 energy....so yes...swrod / axe / spear.....

Totem axe and razajons fever(sp?) are decent priced greens that you could use.

Check guild wars wiki for more info (I think the inscription is called hale and hearty).

If energy isn't that important to you, you can always put on a 10% recharge inscription instead of +5e.
