well that depends on the weapons you are trying to get. If you want a chance to get an inscriptable crystalline or chaos axe, go to fow.

your question is too vague. You can use lockpicks everywhere. The optimal place depends on your goals. Do you want to max your treasure hunter title? Your lucky title? Are you trying to make money or find a specific weapon?

Lucky - use them on nm low end chests
treasure hunter - use them on nm chests that meet the minimum requirement.

Nowhere, chest loot is shit.

YOU did, chests suck now, HM ones dont compare to the old ones before the intro of that.

It seems to be true that the loot from chests is not as good as it once was, but that just makes the good stuff that more valuable.

In Kamadan, Kaineng, or Lion's Arch, in the Trade Channel. Only place you're guaranteed to get anything worthwhile. I've farmed over 60 of the things over the past few months, and I've used exactly one. Got a f*****g purple, never used one again. They're an easy sell, though.

I got an elite necro tome drop from a random enemy during a HM murakai run. The chests, on the other hand, were garbage.

The worst offender of all was the reward chest. It kept dropping Req 13 items. At least I did get a couple of Onyx gems from it and a Murakai's Maul dropped from it once, but the golds were 3/4 a Req 13 item. Shameful.

Well the end game FoW chest was amazing ive heard ;-)

You don't need a key for that

I think over the past few months I've gotten maybe 1 gold from a chest. And even then that gold was crap. I think part of it is I'm a cursed soul, but part of it is chest drops aren't as good now as they once were.

On the topic of the end of FoW chest, my guild did a FoW clear out about a week ago, you dont need a key, and the drops seem to be alot better than any other chests ive ever opened - maybe its just luck, but it seems reward chests - despite dropping the occasional req13 offer alot betting drops than locked chests.

First time I opened a chest in HM I got a elite tome (dont remember) but ever since then nothing but purple and a few golds...

Use them anywhere you like in HM or FoW. HM has a chance for elite tomes. Contrary to what these people say, yesterday I used six lockpicks in HM and got six golds and two purples. Two retains of course.

Even though I know the loot is likely to be rubbish I still like to open chests...it's the not knowing what is inside that gets me! I do break more than i retain though, and mostly get purples. Selling anything decent is a nightmare, more sellers than buyers at the moment!

maybe just me but during HM runs (vanquishes ^^) I normally only get golds / elite tomes very very rarely purples maybe 1/15? plus every now and then get something like 15^50 20/20 +30 bow or something...happens quite often I found in Kourna in Arkjok Ward I believe it was got a "perfect" bow ^^

but seriously I get around 12/15 golds from chests...1 purple 2 elites....thats the norm for me!
