This exact same ad was the reason I left gwonline permenantly. I think you can close this one slightly faster, but that means it's only a 9 on the annoyance scale instead of a 10. There's only so many times I can have monster.ca hijack my browser for 5 seconds before losing my patience with it.

They are working on different ad schemes, so while you may see one ad annoyance come and go, they are trying to find the best way to balance revenue and ease of use; they'll get it - just give them some time

So, you are saying we need to change in order to browse Guru? 10 seconds? Ads are the bane of modern society. They are necessary evil to raise revenue. Finding the proper balance of revenue vs. user aggrevation is the key. You can have all the ads you want, but if you have no viewers it is worthless. I stopped watching TV because most viewing time is spent watching ads. I could buy 'premium' channels, but it's easier to just turn it off

This is why, in the past, I have refused to give any of you dates or times. If it continues to be a problem all you'll start hearing from me is "soon". I understand that you are annoyed by them, but honestly this is the revenue we need to keep the site running so give us a little bit of flexibility.

I just want to say I like the ads because I know that they support this site.

I agree, Dralspire - If it keeps this quality site up and running, so be it!

I get it, I know that sites like this one cant survive without ad revenue, but when you resort to annoying tactics like the ones you recently started testing, then you start driving away the visitors.

This has been a great site. Hopefully you dont lose too many visitors, but if you keep this up, you'll lose at least one, probably more.

All right evilseabass, thanks for the note. I'll also see if I can get any updates for you.

Over-reaction?

Of course I think these ads are annoying as well but if it keeps one of the best GW sites up and running for me to use I think I can deal with the 5 seconds it takes to load the ad and click Skip.

I just realised that my browsing habits make the delay less annoying on the sites where I encounter click-through adds. What I do is I open the main page of the forums. Then I open all the interesting subforums in separate tabs.

Then I go through each of those in turn opening up the interesting looking threads each in their own tab.

Then I read each thread in turn.

At each step I would only have to wait for the timer to end once, because the time I spend waiting for it is also spent on other timers. But more often I spend enough time in one tab for the timer to elapse on the separate tabs, so I just close the current tab and click the skip add button on the next one.

I browse forums this way because I found it much more convenient even without adds being an issue. Even without the adds I sometimes have to wait for pages to finish loading, so I just move to the next tab and come back when that one is loaded.

Then I read each thread in turn. I do that exact same thing for everything when I browse, but the thing is... when I'm logged on, I don't see ads here, ever. I'm not sure why. Could be my firewall or something. *shrug* Doubt it though, cause on the rare occasion that I'm not log in I see ads embedded into the page.

Never got pop ups/pop unders either.

Didn't even know there was an issue until I happened across this thread.

Okay, because I'm having to send off way too many PM's, we don't allow the discussion or promotion of ad blocks. I'm sure you can see why... ads are what keep this site going. Your post will be deleted if you reference them. You are welcome and can feel free to post your feedback on the ads, if you are seeing them, particular ones you question, ones you hate, suggestions and comments. I'm here, listening and watching. But please refrain from mentioning what software, or if you even use software, to not see ads. We use impressions for our ad campaigns, if you don't see the ad then we don't get paid. Hopefully that breaks it down simple enough. Most people are familiar with google ads and they are paid on clicks, we don't use google ads right now. It's a common misconception that all ads and campaigns are run this way. We are not paid by whether or not you click the ad, but whether you see it.

The ones I don't like? Pop-ups. I don't mind the embedded ones, they don't bother me even when they're quite flashy. Pops show up every time I open a browser and every now and then when I load new threads. I don't like the click-through ones either, but I haven't gotten them so far. In fact I prefer the pop-ups to click-through (which are beyond annoying to me).

ok so all the obtrusive things are now for users not logged in.
Im still considering if we can put the rectangle ad in for logged in users. Anyway you shouldnt get the obtrusive ads any more on the forums or articles

gallery and auctions still have to be fixed though

The ones that re-direct me to an ad page (LG is the advertiser) are the pits. The pop unders don't bother me.

I stopped visiting Online because of new pop-ups, and the fact that the admins don't even admit that they are there. At least here, on Guru, it's acknowleged and Inde is listening and working with us. For now I will stick it out with Guru.

All right, per kzap's post above... the interstitials and pop ups should be off for LOGGED IN users. If you are logged out you will still receive them. I had to make that big because I know there will be a few that complain of still getting them. (And if you're still receiving some and you are logged in let me know.) We'll see what this brings us to, then if we test a new ad campaign/style I'll pop in this thread again.

Thanks! Removing the interstitial ad makes a big difference.

Glad to see that the admins care about the opinions of the people who visit this site.

I haven't gotten any adds since Inde changed it. Seems to be working much better now. Thanks Inde.

And Kus, I haven't had any problems with the ads and I have been logged in for over a day now without logging out.

Oh Noes! The 'burbs!

I don't mind most of the ads. However, the ones I loathe are the jiggly ones, such as Congratulations! You are the lucky 999,999th: click next to confirm. I'd like to firebomb anything that won't stay still. I don't particularly care for the WaMu ad either, because for some reason it takes a while to load and grabs my browser tab so I can't go look at something else while it's doing its thing. Could be worse though.

I'm really grateful that this site isn't using Google to serve ads. For some reason anything served by googlesyndication causes huge loading delays for me, some days rendering individual sites unusable. Probably something weird on this individual comp.

When I copy their URL to clipboard, they all have googlesyndication.com. So I think its safe to say they are google adds.

If they were/are served by googlesyndication, they must have been on a different server or something, because they weren't slowing me down. Anyway, that issues seems to have resolved itself, thank god. I was really getting sick of waiting for several minutes for a single page to load at afflicted sites.

Because of ads on Guildwarsguru, I now HATE LG (I hope LG sees this!). I am logged in, and every two or three clicks, get that stupid add which takes 20 seconds to load, then gives me some notice that I can "skip ad (15)" notice. When I click to skip, the site freezes on me so I have shut down my browser, reload the entire site, relog in, go back to where I was browsing....only to get that ******* LG ad again!

dts, if you are logged in you should not be receiving this ad. I know it's still enabled on our auctions but this should not be showing for you on our forums. Please post some screenshots so we can see what may be going on.
