So, there I was browsing the internet when I stumbled upon this review from a FiringSquad blog that isn't kind at all concerning nearly all aspects of Guild Wars.
Basically, the reviewer found the game to be quite dull and using the same battered formulas from any mmo.
"In conclusion, Guild Wars is a decently mediocre game which I would not recommend to anyone unless they must play an, at best, decently mediocre mmorpg at any cost. If I had to do it all over again, I would have looked elsewhere for my Holy Grail of games."
I can't say I agree with the reviewers opinion. GW is certainly not a Holy Grail, but it's a game that I like and that I actually keep playing.
What more can one expect from a no-montlhy-fee game that still gets regularly updated?
Well, there's GW2 in the horizon...

So it's ok that guild wars has been abandoned by the development team and everytime their is a bug they respond with "We are busy working on Gw2, we can't spend time to make your current gameplay more enjoyable but don't worry, in 2 years, you will be able to play one kick ass game!"
Now let's see where this guy goes wrong.
Did this guy play with his graphics on minimum or something?
That, sir, is why you failed.
That just made me loose any respect I had for this guy. Seriously, has this guy never heard of the idea of managing your health and energy?
NO WAI!! Humans adapt? This is preposterous! [/sarcasm]
My review of the review: EPIC FAIL.
Quote:
It was spectacularly unspectacular. I had come to expect a certain level of quality in graphics and artistic design for the game, and I was brutally disappointed. All of the figures and objects were blocky and awkward. Instead of pulling me in and immersing me in the game, the visual effects (yes, even the world and level design) only furthered my realization that I was playing a poorly rendered fantasy game.

Guild Wars employed all the common elements of your typical mmorpg.
Quote:
You even had to manage the red bar and blue bar (some sort of health and magic point displays).

However, humans quickly figure out what combinations of skills and players work well against other combinations of skills and players.
My review of the review: EPIC FAIL.

To me, the one good thing about it was the community of game players. I thoroughly enjoyed my dealings with all I encountered in the web community, in-game as well as out. There a great amount of interaction between players through fan sites as well as the game. Everyone was genuinely genial and helpful. Unfortunately, this saddened me to see such a huge and thriving community so involved in such a mediocre, standard game.

Actually, I think the problem with most reviews of this sort is that the reviewer probably just gave the game a couple of hours.
Just think back to the first couple of hours of your playing GW. You'll have a handful of attribute points, maybe 8-16 skills spread over 6-8 attribute lines. That is in no way reflective of what GW is anything about.
The problem is that few reviewers would give the hours to play the game till they had 100++ skills and 200 skill points.

Critics are so ciritcal when it comes to games.
But seriously, there's always going to be some person that just doesn't like the game, or expects the perfect game to come out of a company's budget. QQ on their part really. It's why when I want a review for a game, I rely on one person, and one person alone. Myself.
