I may be buying a laptop from a mate, and was wondering if it would run GW

Its a Dell (he has no idea of the model), 1GB RAM, 1.83GHz Duo proccessor, 224MB internal Graphics controller. Is that all thats needed to know? did i miss anything from the list?

And btw it doesnt need to run GW at lightning fast speeds, but not a perma-lag PC either.

It should run well enough although you really need to find out what that shared graphic controller is. If it's an intel chipset it should run GW fine, just be aware that depending on the version of the chipset, you may have some T&L problems in a few areas that might cause the game to crash.

If its a GMA950, then it'll run, but not very fast.
IF its a X3100 (965 chipset) then it'll run, it'll run faster than a GMA950, but still not very fast.

I run GW sometimes on my laptop which is an X3100, and have no complaints.

Everything else is okay, but this is problematic. It may work, but there's a lot of people who simply cannot even load into certain areas because their integrated video hardware is so terrible. I have no idea what the capabilities of this one in particular is, but it would make me nervous. Try to find at least something with nvidia or ATI graphics.

Yeh i assumed that 224mb IGC would run GW alright because my old PC runs GW slowish, but not to bad, and its on an Nvidia 128mb

Don't make the beginner mistake of comparing graphics hardware by memory capacity alone, because the memory alone doesn't mean shit as far as performance is concerned, especially when the integrated GPU probably uses the computer's relatively slow RAM instead of having dedicated video memory.

That "Nvidia 128mb" could very well be an order of magnitude faster than this "224mb IGC".
