Make Weaponsmiths More Useful
blakecraw
I have a few ideas for the weaponsmiths, just thought of em so I figured I'd post em.
1. Give weaponsmiths the ability to change the type of a bow, for a fee.
example: turn a storm bow into a recurve type bow, so people can use those skins that don't come as a recurve bow in pvp
2. Give them the ability to change the required attribute of items, again for a fee.
example: say I have a weapon that only comes in primary caster attributes, and inscriptions all follow the required attribute, but I don't want a 20/20 divine favor wand.. you get the idea
EDIT: If you don't get what I'm saying, I DO NOT mean make it so they can change the requirement number, only the attribute (so you can change req 13 divine favor to req 13 protection). I was also thinking you could only change weapons that already come in a variety of attributes, and only be able to change them to an attribute of the same profession.
3. I'm not even sure I like this one myself, but make weaponsmiths into a trader type npc for weapon mods and inscriptions. If this has been argued over before and deemed a bad idea don't bother arguing over it again.

I have ALWAYS wanted weapon skins to be unlockable, and the Weaponsmiths would make things much, much better than having to farm for one specific skin of one specific attribute.
Example:
-A sword skin you like drops for you! When you pick it up, the skin becomes unlocked on your character (or, alternatively, becomes unlocked when you "show" it to a Weaponsmith...y'know, so he can get the plans).
-When you go back to the Weaponsmith, if you have the required materials and gold (which would scale based on the rarety of the item), you can buy a req.9 blue max sword of that same skin, customized, inscribable, with no mods.
Why blue? So the rare items are still rare. Why inscribable? More customization.
What would this do for Guild Wars? Well, for one, it would allow casual players who just want to look cool to actually do so, while still letting the rare-folks to maintain the value of their golds. Secondly, it would prove another goldsink, as people would spend their money on materials and weapons and mods, rather than going out and farming, generating MORE in-game money rather than cutting back. Finally, it could prove another title track (or tracks!) based on how many weapons you've unlocked.
Just a thought. Didn't mean to hijack, but as long as we're talkin' about how to make weaponsmiths more appealing, I thought I'd stick my two plat in.

I would like a way to upgrade weapons by paying 5k gold + materials, I should be able to turn any ol weapon I pick up into a max damage/energy weapon with an uninscribable mod (of choice?).
That is the same price as max stat Weaponsmiths in Outposts, only I get the skin you want. It becomes a white Weaponsmith/Collector tagged weapon with unremovable mods. (This prevents it from being mistaken for a Gold drop)
I would even accept the further handicap of the upgraded weapon to be automatically Customised. (So as not to affect the market THAT much.)

Some skins are not linked to a type of bow... so I would agree as long as each bow can be changed only into those types that have its skin.
The same for required attributes. Eternal shiles come only in Strenght and Motivation. So you won't be able to change it to 'core'. A flame wand would be always linked to 'fire magic', a bow to marksmanship, and so on.
For inscriptions, both adding an empty inscription slot, by losing ALL other upgrades, would be fine. The weapon would have same req and damage, and fixed properties, but the upgrades and modifers it would have would vanish.
And of course, upgrade traders are something needed.

and give them the ability to TRULY customize your weapon so that it becomes a "green" and the name changes to that of your char, or the possibility to name it.
edit: not that i think that its ever going to happen but ive always wanted to do that....D2 had a kinda simmilar thing....:s

I think that most weaponsmiths are currently useless.
Those in Proph, Factions and NF craft for 5k + materials weapons which are exactly the same as collectors ones, sometimes without even an inscription.
Who buys a blue r9 shield with a standard skin for 5k+ and then needs also to put inscriptions and upgrades on it, when you can buy a gold version for 1-2k?
Or get a perfectly upgraded one from a collector practically for free?
Maybe only norn/asura/dwarven weaponsmiths are acceptable, because they at least offer some uncommon skins.
That said, my suggestion is to replace those crafters with upgrade crafters.
Some upgrades have reached a stabilized level of price, so these can be used to set correctly the prices at crafters.
Or for instance use the same idea as destroyer weaps, they all cost the same price (5k) and require some rare materials.
Maybe a +30hp for any kind of weapon could cost 5k + normal materials + 1 onyx (or 1 ecto), just as an example.

Uhmm yeh really smart idea. So that all of the r13 rare skin weapon will be r9 right? for like 100k fee maybe?
r13 Eternal Blade is 100k + 100e. Idk it might be more
r9 Eternal Blade is 100k + 300e. Hmm really smart I think
Oh how about
r13 Long sword 1k into r9 Long sword 25k for a fee of 100k? Hmm
How the hell do you deal with that? Oh change the skin too. LOL Long sword into Crystalline. Oh or maybe I unlock Crystalline and dup 100 of them and sell for HIGH price.
Why dont you make it so you can change the White Mini pet into gold minipet and maybe Panda minipet too. Oh or maybe make the amour guy change the 1k amour into FoW amour? Oh it might be better if you can change the customized name too so you can trade amours and other stuffs?

I'd just be happy with the weaponsmith in gh doing something. You spend 10k on an NPC who doesn't even make weapons! /sigh

/Signed for this. It would be a cool way to give the weaponsmiths something more useful to do

Oh that! But it's still messing up the market place. Because same skin, same require but Motivation shield and Strength base shield or Tactics base have different prices. Same for staffs/wands. The air one is much cheaper than the fire one! I still dont know how you can make a universal price for changing this!

great idea, but to save on all the hassle...it should be customised like BMP items so people dont get rich off something they found by accident

And agree with the idea about showing weaponsmiths skins for them to craft that skin when we please. Would save a lot of work
EDIT: They should be customized when crafted obviously to prevent market chaos.
