Why would someone do these things?

I just started playing the game and I have discovered the joys of trading. O just wondered though why someone would pay 100 g for something that I offered to sell them for 20 g. Any ideas?

Also, why would someone offer to give me free gold right after I sold them something for a reasonable price?

LOL I'm a untrusting soul.

Possibly because you may be seriously undercharging and they are honest people who don't want to take advantage of you?

I've done the same thing many times - I hate to rip people off, accidentally or otherwise.

20g is nothing to longtime players.

I round to the nearest hundred simply for ease of trading...

What were you selling?

I'm in presearing still and I was selling spider legs and unnatural seeds. Heck I was gonna just give them away and then saw that I could sell them for 3 gold each so I offered them for 4 each. That got gone so quick that I upped the price on the next item to 10g each. Someone else was selling them 14 g each.

I didn't want to rip anybody off but I didn't want to miss out on the 3 gold each for them either. I'm poor still.

as the above posters have said ...the reason the person gave you some gold back was either to be nice and help a new player...or you was under charging.

As to why someone will buy something for 100g from a merchant instead of 20g from a player is alot of folks don't like to trade with players....that and it is quicker to just go to the merchant and buy what you need...especially if you have alot of money to begin with....rather than sit around waiting for someone to be selling something you want...

You can trade them for armor. People are just lazy so they don't want to farm it themselves.

100g isn't a big deal to experienced players. But for someone new, it's helpful.

Thanks for all the replies. I was just wondering if there was some way that I could get scammed through trading that I didn't know about. Sounds as though all is well and I need to not be so suspicious next time.

Welcome to the Game. I hope you keep having good experiences! There are some nice folks in-game. You just gotta find 'em.

I have given people more gold than they asked for before - when they have severely undervalued it or if they have really helped me out by saving me time in trying to get it myself. I'm definitely not rich either (consistently have less than 20k in storage). I usually do it as a way to say: Thank You. I also do it for new players (if I really feel they are truly new players and not beggers) to help them out getting started with the game.

This rule applies to all trading: You will never get scammed as long as you buy and trade things that can be put into a trade window and you read the gold amounts and any text very carefully--icons aren't always enough to go on. Be a little suspicious, just enough to actually make sure you're getting what you think you're getting. Just remember that the trade window does not lie.

Most of the times people get scammed, its because they trusted someone to give them something that cannot be put into a trade window; i.e. a GW account or a guild.

Give this a read as well.

The person probably thought you needed the gold from what you were selling and decided to be generous. There are some people like that, but beware the scammers.
