noob questions

Hi, i've just started playing GW today (the first GW) and i thought of making a necromancer since i like using debuffs. I was wondering what skills and secondary prof i should invest on for fast leveling? thanks in advance!
blue.rellik
If you want to level fast then you'll want to get a run to Beacon's Perch then a run to Droknar's Forge then power-levelled to lvl 20. Prophecies in the worst game if you want things quick
Eostare
well i could install factions...since i already have it. how about secondary profs and skills?
Morianna Nightshade
your classes really arent that important when you look at leveling. it kinda depends on what you want to do with your necro to what secondary you should take....
Eostare
hm....this really is different from othe mmo's i've tried... it's odd that the build doesn;t affect the progrerssion that much...

Don't run. It doesn't let you get a feel for your character. It also doesn't teach you how to fight. You'll get far, but it ends up being a big fat FAIL.
Prophecies is the slowest game out of the lot, so...be patient.
For the second profession...Mesmer and Monk are the most common. and generally, the best.
Mesmer has great synergy between skills, tons of hexing, interrupts, etc etc.
Monk for an MM build, where Heal Area will help you out with keeping your minions alive, and a hard rez is always a good thing.
I chose /Mesmer when i made my necro about a month ago in Prophecies. I still haven't done the first mission yet, but although it is the slowest of the games....the male necromancers from the other campaigns look.....yuck. :P
My current skill bar only incorporates a few mesmer skills (for skills from your second profession aren't needed)
[skill]Power Spike[/skill]
A good, cheap interrupt, and no need for an attribute point investment.
[skill]Illusion of Haste[/skill]
Cuz speed boosts are fun, and it's the only one available.
[skill]Conjure Phantasm[/skill]
Good degen....for now.

Well eventually it will, but fortunately GW has a lot of options for your build. The diversity for profession's their functions as well as the options of builds are 3-5 times more than most other games.
With so many options, there is no way to say, this build fixes everything.
Though we necros have it narrowed down to SS and MM's, but both have at least 3 main variations.
So your build will affect your progress trough the game, but it will be learning experience more, at least until you cap a good elite.
When you get into HM, challenge missions in factions and other elite activities then your build will become a major factor, in those area's everyone in the team needs to be their best.
NM'ing through prophesies, a good build will help you get along just a tad quicker, but killing stuff 2 hits quicker is not such a gigantic boon.
Prophesies is mostly dosaged, slowly getting players into the game, never really throwing more at them than they can handle.
Factions on the other hand, has a sudden jump in pace; in the last mission before leaving n00by isle.
(and that captured son quest as well)
Those are like a graduation exam, where the new players get slapped in the face with a cold fish until they have the minimum of: build, play and teamwork, that they will need to not annoy the other team in the foreign quarter double team mission that comes right after that one on the mainland.
Or they can just receive help form one of the experienced players that hangs around there, cheating at the n00by isle exam.
As for the build, you have infinite free resets on attributes while in town, skills runes insignia's and armor cost money though, so might wanna chose those carefully.
After you have ascended(Which IM(I)O is faster in prophesies than in factions, because of less locked doors) you can get infinite free changes of our secondary profession, which is when trying and learning ally types of builds really becomes fun.
The best build is a multi campaign one though, skills from more than 1 campaign will always synchronize better than from only 1 campaign, simply by more (options) = better.

ya as system crush said probably two of the best necro builds are SS and MM.
MM is short for Minion Master and works great at lower lvls like you are now because you can easily get your summoned minions at a higher lvl than the enimies. basically as an MM you wait for stuff to die then use any of your minion summon spells to create an army of them then keep them alive by using [skill]Blood of the master[/skill].
SS is [skill]Spiteful Spirit[/skill] and its an elite that you can capture later on in the game and is one of the best necro elite there is.
If your new to the game I wouldnt suggest starting at curses because there arnt a lot of good ones that you get early in the game.
I would suggest either starting out as an MM or just running a generic blood magic build. You get plenty of decent blood skills early on if I remeber correctly. Blood magic is also probably the easiest to learn on since most of it is either direct damage or degeneration.
But regardless of what you choose one good thing you should always have some of is Soul Reaping. For PvE its a very powerful primary attribute that can really help energy management.
Oh and if you need help with stuff try the wikipedia page. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page
its got lots of info on everything.

I suggest starting with Blood Magic for newbies. MM is a bit complex. I've seen lots of newb MM's this week running around with beginner's armor and sup runes trying to run 4 Fire Magic skill on top of minion summoning.
Start with blood magic until you have a feel for the game and how to manage yourself in battle. Then you can practice some summoning. Minions work differently in this game than in some others (i.e. Diablo 2) where you can just just summon a few dozen monsters to tank for you and completely ignore what they are doing. This game is just the opposite. A good minionmaster keeps track of what his minions are doing.
