So my speed is 54.0 mbps and my signal strength is excellent. I load up guild wars and went to Random Arenas to do some pvp and when I load the map, it takes 1-2 mins to load it! Its always 5-20 kb/sec and would have 50-120 files to download even on the maps I went to before. Help me out please!

If the game's downloading the same files repeatedly the game's data file could be broken.

Try deleting the gw.dat file in the game's directory or renaming it to something else so the game won't use it, and then run the game with the command line argument "-image" (no quotes) to force the game to redownload the entire data file. If that doesn't get rid of the problem I don't know what will.

Note that doing the above will probably take a while unless you have a mad Internet connection, so leave it running overnight or something. The resulting gw.dat file should be around 3.5 GB in size.

Well, first of all, are you comparing this performance to what you get from a direct connection? That is, does the problem go away if you use a cable to connect to the router instead of using wireless?

At any rate, the wireless connection is not the only link in the chain. Your wireless speed could be 54 kajillion gbps and you still be limited by the slowest link in the chain. So, it's quite possible that somewhere else along the line, you are only getting 5-20kbps.

Even if the problem goes away if you use a direct connection, it could be that the problem is that your computer can't keep up with downloading the files and running the wireless networking at the same time.

But, most of all, the fact that you have to download places you've already been to, would seem to indicate that you may have a corrupted gw.dat file, perhaps in addition to network problems. The network problems would make it slow, but they wouldn't affect needing to download the files again.

That 54Mbps is the rating at which your wireless modem/router is capable of. What's your internet speed that your ISP provides you with?
