Wow, thank you. At best I was crossing my fingers for a mini Grawl.
I'm not the best at doing small detailed things so instead I was trying to convey the feeling & idea of a hat which was glowy spiky ice shards in a crown(all based on lore). So it was ment to serve as inspiration rather than be a ready-made-product right down to the last detail. The fur-trim is there to hopefully cover the baldness a bit. I doubt Anet will render the hair although it would be hilarious if they did imho. I'm going to refrain from commenting on any criticism I get from this because I honestly can't be arsed. :)

I've seen many contest designs posted here on the forums and they are all so neat and unique. Now that I understood the idea of Vulron's entry I love it and Mike Nashs' entry looks very nice. Reminds me of a FFXII Viera with the white hair. Is that weird? Love it. Can't wait to see the hats ingame...

there ~ that's how it came out, now Ala can see how she'd look with a bleach & crop ~ any Sin with the matching hairdo (yours, I believe ..) ought be pleased with the trim (wish it were dyeable tho)
Now .. it's not gonna suit everyone, but that's how it goes with partyhats: there is no way you'll get Ala to wear either of the Halloween 07 masks, or the Cantha New Year 07; those grotesque things kinda suited guys better ~ fugly guys :} .. whereas this Wintersdays' will complement female characters the most ..
seems the "ice" matches the Glacial Glove design, rather than the Chaos gloves, and the non-glowyness is prolly why most peeps will be disappointed, no slur on your design~!

I actually liked the Dwayna hat. It's fun for my female derv who already has a white dress. She's really pretty now.
The ice crown was different than the picture, but still looks cool on my male toons.
They never promised the hats would look exactly like the pictures, and as long as the winners got the prizes they were told they'd receive, then you can't really fault Anet for trying to offer a fun event to the community.
The first time I saw them offer computers and accessories as contest prizes, thought it was pretty cool and awesome for a game that doesn't even charge a subscription fee. They're not obligated to have these contests at all, but they do. Whether the hat came out like the design or not, Nian still got a very useful reward and tons of recognition. Isn't that worth it?
So thank you Anet for giving the community this opportunity. To the people who absolutely hated the hats, better luck next event. Can't please everyone all the time. I'd just like another voice to be counted in support of their efforts. While the people who are happy with the game and the events stay content and quiet, it seems like people show up in hordes when they aren't satisfied.

Muhah. I have gotten LOADS of comments about this and very different opinions too. I must say I was a bit shocked and negative at first too because the design went a long way from the picture. Now it's settled in. The hats are not as flashy as before but they are definitely very different and original compared to hats before and I can appreciate that. I had wished for a glowy effect but that's probably one of the limitations of the graphical side. They can look pretty cool though. The rose bush lucia thing looks soo funny on male characters. That's what makes a festival hat imho. :P
Just went fooling around with my ele, dressed her up in whatever I had and lolled. She looks like a viking/evil witch of somesort. I can't believe I got her to look like that tbh. Certainly not a look for everyone..
Conclusion, I really like the hats. I don't feel like I "own" the ice crown but it does follow the concept. I think it was cool that the hats are clearly masculine vs. feminine too. Nothing would have happened. :P Honestly I don't feel very responsible about the design. Concept was the fur+ice from my picture but in the end and prolly to avoid copyright issues+workability ingame the hat was designed and implemented by Anet and not me.

Complaining about small things like the festival hats is very silly. Anet won't change them, no matter who complains, and people will eventually get used to them. There have been better hats and there have been worse hats, and the same thing will apply to future hats.
Like Nian said, they're just festival hats. Meant to be silly and strange, rather than pretty fashion accessories. Nian, love your ele with that hat. She looks like some kind of Ice Queen, ready to steal the hearts of young men and freeze them. It suits her very well.
