Lucky's idea as follows:

3 Regions: Americas, European, Asian

2 Teams per Region

Guilds that have participated in at least one Monthly for the past Quarter/Year Can Nominate any 2 players from their roster.

This list of nominees is then organized on a website at GW.com where all guild wars account holders can log in (much like Tourney Predictions) and vote for their favorite 2 players for every position according to their region.

Thus the categories to vote in are as follows:

2 Frontline = 4 votes
3 midline = 6 votes
2 backline = 4 votes
1 Utility/Runner = 2 votes

Then a player list will be gathered from the votes (majority rules) and 3 region pools of 16 players will be formed. 2 captians will be randomly selected from each pool and they will take turns choosing their allstar team.

Then the Tourney will be played in such a way that alternates can be taken from the regions sister team.

So does this idea fail? I would like to hear your thoughts.

I think it would be fun to watch an allstar American team play against an allstar Europe team or Asian team. Instead of watching the same guilds battle each other every month.

It's not going to work. 99% of GW don't even know who any of these players are, so it's not going to matter to them. If they end up voting, it'll just be all random (or they'd vote for some high ranked guy). Plus, top guilds with 6 great players will not get to nominate all their players, while bad guilds that qualified for monthlies through farming late night ATs for 4 QP a night get to nominate 2 people, both of which will be horrible.

In the end, no one's going to care about this tournament. Even less people will watch this than mATs, simply because they don't know the people involved. It's easier to get the public interested when you say "hey it's DF vs vD" since those are well known guilds, as opposed to "hey this features chiizu vs void". Plus, they play quality will be just as bad as the sports all-star games, since it's basically nothing but a high ranked pug.

Optimism vs. Pessimism

My idea or something like it vs. Offering no other alternative and watching the same guilds play the same guilds every month...

You and others have already said GW needs more tourneys. Here is my idea.
And i dont not agree with you saying 99% of GW dont know players. Personally they may not, but they have seen them before in obs mode (monthlys). Which by the way are the only matches worth watching as it is.

This would not simply be a "pug" it is an allstar team where the players it consists of were put there by majority.

But they don't play together (most likely) so they wouldn't know how to work their best.

Nice idea, I'd watch it, but holy has a point.

And similarly, I've seen about 30 Euro professional bball players play a few games on TV before. Does that make me more knowledgeable about who to vote? Not really. If anything, it skews my vote to whoever I've watched. This is why all-star games are always a joke.
