I am a regular visitor to this forum. I check it throughout my work day, and at home, i tend to check it as well. The one thing that I have noticed is the redudant post problems. Take Sardelac for example. People post ideas that have been posted before, people say use search, and the thread is locked. I also notice that people that use the power of thread necromancy ALSO gets that thread locked.
I have not done this, it is just something I noticed. Mods are closing topics left and right, and if we decide to post, we have to 1) use search and 2) check the date of the last post. Anyone else see the irony?
Moderator Thoughts - Sardelac Sanitarium

First off, Stargazer I changed the title of your thread. It's a bit dramatic and didn't describe the situation at all. No need to exaggerate.
Second, you have a point. Especially in regards to Sardelac Sanitarium. So I'm discussing it with the mods. We have to approach this from 2 fronts. Make the moderators aware of the contradiction and second, educate the users that not all thread necro is wrong and bad. So we'll start working on a solution. Thanks.

well there are a few instances where I saw this...like i said, it did not really pertain to me, as it has not happened to myself. I was just stating something I noticed this morning while looking in there. Not trying to be dramatic or step on toes, just pointing something out. Good work on the site guys

I've noticed it too, in a few different forums. A recent example.
I say make a clear line in the sand. Decide what length of time makes a thread "history" and lock it. On the same token, make it general policy not to scold people for rehashing topics - providing that it's not a blatant dead horse.

Anyone else see the irony? I was actually going to make a thread on this, but used search and found this one, which has the same idea I was thinking. It seems like a Catch 22 or whatever you want to call it, but, basically, if you want to comment on something in Sardelac that was discussed in the past, at the moment, there is no way to do it. I think 2 or 3 times in the past week this has happened, and I am just a bit confused.
If I were to make a thread that had the same idea as another one posted 6 months ago or so, I would have been flamed for not using search, and the thread locked. So, I decided instead to resurrect a thread from a few months ago.
Although, I got flamed for rezzing a dead thread, and the thread locked. I'm not really sure what to do at all if I want to discuss an issue like this.

Well, and this may annoy the mods, when the first thread gets locked, start a new one linking the locked one, a brief explanation and then your idea. Then again, given how some things go here, you may be flamed and the thread locked.

The way I feel this would go down, is if I were to rez a locked thread, referencing it, I would get a message like "This thread was locked for a reason, we don't want to hear about it noob, LOCKED!!" Even though there were many points in the thread a lot of people agreed on, the thread was locked with the reason being something like "Whatever, this thread was rezzed...LOCKED!"

About the bot thread. To be fair, the thread was mainly locked because it was an old suggestion to ban bots...with no real suggestion other then banning bots. There's no need to suggest banning bots, because ANet claim to do their best in banning them.

I mod the Sardelac exclusively (when I have time to mod at all). I understand the contradiction and the confusion.
The rules we had set for the Sardelac is that you search and make sure the idea hasn't been suggested before you post. If the exact same idea is found, go ahead and necro that thread, and try to add your own comments. If it's a similar idea, but not quite, you may necro the thread, but it's probably better in the end if you just make a new one and perhaps reference the old one. People tend to reply to a thread based on the first post, so details of your variation may not get as much attention.
If you necro a thread in which the idea has long since lost any meaning, don't necro it. I've recently closed a couple of threads in which the suggestions were already implimented into the game by A-Net months ago. One, for example, was a suggestion to add skill templates and someone necroed it with "/signed."
So it's okay to necro. The thing is, though, I don't think a lot of our forum posters realize this. The Sardelac is unlike the other forums and the rules from those forums don't necessary carry over to the Sardelac the same way. Even though it's okay to necro relevant threads, people will flame you for it.
I know this isn't a long-term solution, but the next time you bump a thread and someone hassels you for doing so, post a link to our forum rules, specifically my added section where I address this topic. Or just... you know... inform them.
And if you see a moderator lock a bumped thread and you're not sure why, send them a PM and reason with them. Perhaps there are other reasons why it was locked, or perhaps they will reverse their decision. It happens.
