factions - which class?

Just got factions and installing - which class is most fun to play - ritualist or assasin ?
Coridan
i would say if you are experienced go with an assassin ....if not try the rit
Toutatis
I enjoy both of them. Although of the two of them, my preference would be for the assassin.
Though if you start playing as an assassin, remember these two things: Assassins are squishy compared to Warriors, and a lot of monsters in Factions explode on death. Expect your death count to go up very quickly while you learn how to play the class

Personally I find the Ritualist much more fun to play.
They have a good variety of builds.
Rits can be support healers with Restoration, party buffers with Weapon spells, Spirit spamers that can deal damage inflict conditions remove enchants and interupt, and with Channelling you get some of the most powerfull Lightning attack spells in all of GW.
If your playing PvE then the Rit is deffinatly the better choice in my oppinion.

The Ritualist is a support hybrid class, capable of healing and offensively buffing at the same time.
[skill]ancestors' rage[/skill] and [skill]splinter weapon[/skill] are two of the strongest offensive skills out there.
The Assassin... kills stuff, basically. They're fragile but powerful.

God of the blade
Ritualist = party support, summoning spirits, aid your team by enhancing their weapons
Assassin = basicly kill things under 3 seconds in pvp :/ , assassins are very weak based on defense, but make it up with their deadly dagger combo's
i play them both and my choice goes to my assassin

I've been enjoying playing my Assassin a lot lately. But as others have said, remeber you are not a warrior. In and out quick strikes is the strength of the class.
Rits are fun too and there are some great farming builds for them (if you're into that kind of thing) mostly based around [card]Vengeful Was Khanhei[/card]

I don't like the stress of playing a monk, the ritualist doesn't have as much pressure, good for support plus they have nifty damage skills.
Assassins are also fun to play too

I hated playing my assassin and was never so glad to finish a campaign with a char as I was with him. Now, I'll be the first to admit I wasn't very good at it - I just couldn't seem to get the hang of it. People who have gotten the hang of it have my admiration and I have seen a few good assassins do some really amazing things (like the one I watched solo Scareater 7 times in a row - we go out the door, he runs over to Scareater, bang!, Scareater's dead and the sin is back beside me). Most sins I've encountered in the game (including my own) seem to spend more time dead than alive - their only purpose to supply a steady source of minions for Olias.
On the other hand, my rit breezed through all 3 campaigns, never even using any elites (other than to cap something, try it out a bit and then take it off my bar). I had such a rollicking good time playing her that I made another one, who is now my 1st char to achieve Legendary Survivor title.

the assassin is more difficult to get the 'hang' of, and many pugs will not take them in their party (if you have a good guild then you might fair better), rits have more than just restoration at their disposal. I have 2 rits and they do a fair amount of damage using channeling spells (using just bloodsong, essence strike and spirit burn....and then if its a stationary target spirit rift....lots of damage---there are more that I use but these are my favs). Rits can be defensive with weapon skills as well.
It all depends on what you want to do with the game, if you are just getting factions you will get 2 character slots so you can try both out and see which one fits your type of game play (I have and I still cant get a good handle on the 'sin
, but then again I just started my first warrior a few months ago as well--never like what they looked like!).SO try them out and see which you prefer (and you can always delete one if you dont like it).
good luck on whichever you decide upon!

Well guys you put me off assassin (which is a shame cos I have already collected loads of Gold Daggers), so I chose Ritualist which I am finding to be very different compared to the Warrior I ran through Nightfall, Prophecies & Gwen.
Anyway cant understand why so many people slag off Factions because I think it's great. It is a little easy (I got to level 5 in about 90 minutes) but whose complaining !

Seeing as how you're familiar with melee already, since you're at level 5, why not give the assassin a try?

Ritualists are more fun to play and are accepted into groups more often. Ritualists all the way!
Spellcasters are more fun usually anyway.

I don't understand the whole "Assassin is hard to play" thing. Now I haven't done anything on my sin other than complete Factions and a bit of Nightfall, but I definitely felt it was an easy class to play, at least using a cookie cutter Moebius Blossom build. Things may change on HM and whatnot, but I just don't get it when people complain about dying constantly as a sin in NM.
I'd generally just hit critical defenses/critical agility (crit defenses wore off mid fight half the time but it never mattered) and sprint right into the fray ahead of my henchies, which according to this board is a death wish. Use critical eye, hit something with golden phoenix strike, and death blossom/moebius strike spam everything to the ground. I didn't even have mystic regen unlocked, it would have been near impossible to die with it. Even without it, I found dying was a very rare occurrence, almost always happening in situations where nearly any class would have died (oh noes, I pulled 4 groups on accident!).
On the other hard, I found rit to be considerably more difficult.
Don't be afraid of playing a 'sin! It's pretty fun too - probably my favorite class alongside ranger.

It comes down to this - the Assassin is a melee character, the Ritualist is a spellcaster - which do you prefer?

When you can get 75% block without taking your elite slot and without the conditionality and still have it up permanently... and you choose the worse of the two, you have to have a good reason why.
Most of the time, that reason doesn't exist in PvE.

Personally, I haven't played either profession, but I've wanted to have a go at Rits. Really though, it's up to what sort of character you like to play.

But, as another poster mentioned, it's really up to you. Overall, the ritualist is more versatile, while the assassin is a specialist. That's not even taking into account the fact that one is a melee combatant and the other is a caster.
IMO, though, I prefer the more straightforward role of the assassin; but then, I prefer melee over casters.

Contrary to what most people think, assassin's make one of the best PvE classes around. It's just that assassin's have a terrible reputation of dying easily because people don't know how to use them.
That being said, it's less likely you'll find a group, but at the same time, if you learn to play it right, you will perform very well.
My warrior deals 100 damage to level 28 creatures, every single swing, and has a constant 33% attack speed buff. I've recently made an assassin build that exceeds that damage, with plenty of room for self defense.
If you want to learn how to play a real assassin in pve, send me a private message.
Mind you, I am not of the norm. I purposely use weapons and attributes that people neglect, and make builds to prove they are useful as well. I even made a successful hammer pve build that rivals my sword build.

Assassin is a brilliant pve class because you can pick the target to melee shadow step to target "usually a squishy caster monk mesmer ele etc.
Huge spike damage plus conditions etc then back to start point, repeat and repeat till all are dead.
Stand in one place and you will be a minion raised by one side or the other soon enough.
Like rits too and have both classes as characters.

Well i have a rit and a sin and the rit is the least used char and the sin is the most used ...

Assassin IMO.
The things you can do, the look the feel, the ambiance (cwutididthar?)
are amazing.
Ritualist look nasty while running, assassins look like they are planning to kill something when running.
As a ritualist many will expect you to play healer, many will expect spirits.
An assassin can play with a scythe, a bow, a axe, a hammer, a sword, an axe.
Ritualists can too, but have less armor than an assassin for when they are playing these gimmicks.
Try an assassin, try a rit.
If you have two slots create both.
Try the sin first, go to the rit after.

Assassin is by far the funnest class imo. out of all campaigns.
So I say Sin for sure.

Notice that I didn't say anything bad about assassin as a profession. I was only relating my experience with it.
Some classes are easier to play than others. Some classes are harder to play well, like assassins and mesmers. And some people just find it easier to play some classes than other classes.
I, myself, am a piss-poor assassin and mesmer and a 'meh' monk. I'm a pretty decent warrior, ranger and fire mage, and my rits have turned out to be pretty kickin'. My forte and true love, though, is my curses nec, hands down.
It's important to feel some affinity for the class you're playing, to play it really well. If you're not having fun with it, you're not going to make that extra effort required to learn to play it well; you'll just muddle through, hoping to be good enough to at least finish the campaign.
I agree that if the OP has 2 slots open, they should try out both profs to see which one suits them best.
