Password incorrect - unable to retrieve password

Hey, I haven't played on my Guildwars Account since the October event, been playing City of Heroes. Thought today I tried to log in to my account and it told me my password was incorrect. I tried every password I could possibly think of and have been unable to log in (I'm more than certain what the password was).

I tried using the password recovery, entered my E-mail and hit "next" then it does nothing - I hit next a second time and it leads me to a screen telling me to go to Plaync.com

I enter my Plaync account info and oddly enough Guildwars is no longer listed under "games". I see my City of Heroes account but nothing else. The only record of my guild wars account on there is under billing, the purchase of Eye of the North via the online store.

I also tried logging into guild wars using my [email protected] and it says that there is no guildwars account tied to it. Emailed playNC and went back and forth until they asked me for my serial keys (I've had the game for a couple years now, I eventually threw away the boxes), I did give them as much info as possible about my account and the invoice to my Eye of the North digital purchase. Though they haven't replied since then.

Anyone gone through something similar or just know what the heck is going on?

your account may have been hacked, and that person changed your previous password to a new one

thats all I could really think of

If that were the case how would that person be able to make it so that I can't retrieve my password or unlink the account from my PlayNC account? That's insane if there's a method of doing that without access to my email or PlayNC.

I'm stumped. If you used the online store, it should have been permanently bound to your e-mail. If it was bound to your e-mail, the account shouldn't have disappeared. (AFAIK, even banned accounts remain bound to the e-mail so that a new account can't be created.) So, the situation you describe should be impossible.

Best guess: Did you maybe have the right password but the wrong e-mail? If that's not it, then...

Best advice: Contact support.

(Apropo of permanent e-mail binding, it is a very, very bad thing and a huge security flaw. But, in this case, I don't think it's to blame.)

Nah, definitely not the wrong e-mail.

Hopefully support can do something.

Holy...

Just got this message:

"Thank you for updating us on this issue. Though we would be more than happy to assist you with this issue, we unfortunately cannot do so without first obtaining your 25-digit access keys. That information is required in order to verify ownership of the account in question; no other piece of information will be accepted for this purpose."

I've been playing since beta and have spent a good $120 or so. Now, because I threw out my boxes, I lost it all. Freaking amazing. They don't even honor the fact that my PlayNC account and Credit Card both have Eye of the North purchased - they say I need my access key. How am I supposed to have an access key for that when I digitally bought it through them? What's the purpose of the purchase number on my PlayNC account?

Anyone know of a number I can call so I can get something other than a robot-like response?

Thank you! I didn't realize that they had sent me an e-mail with purchase. I found it, saved luckily. Hopefully that'll be enough.

That will only be good enough for EoTN not the rest of campaigns as they want all cd keys to everyone of them.I had to do this to get my account settled.

So me having the EoTN receipt and Key will do nothing? They'll just shrug it off?

To be honest, it's your own fault for chucking out the boxes and the access keys with them.

They may or may not atleast you can show that you purchased EoTN as for the other I don't know but most gamers know not to throw away their boxes with cd keys in them.It is like throwing away your car keys or house key.

I honestly didn't think that one day my account, tied to both my email and PlayNC account would just no longer let me into it. Add that with the fact that I live in a small apartment with a family of 5 where stuff is thrown away all the time without the owner's consent and you can see how access keys won't survive for over two years. In the future I plan on emailing myself every key I get my hands on.

I'm thinking that my account hasn't even been hacked but that there's an error. According to guildmates my account hasn't shown as active since October 31st, the day of the halloween event, the last time I logged in. Plus, if someone did get my password the only way I can imagine they could possibly unlink my GW account with my PlayNC is if they somehow had my all of my access keys, which most are laying in a landfill somewhere and my GWEN key on my email (which is separate from the email I use for all games including GW).

What worries me even more is my conversation with support:

After being refused access to my account I ask at least that they deactivate my GWEN key (which I bought via the store on my PlayNC account) and reissue me a new key to apply to a new account that I plan on buying. The support guy transfers me to someone new:

Hello ****,

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team! In order to assist you, we will need you to provide some information:

What are the last 4 digits of the credit card used to purchase the expansion online?

We look forward to your reply!

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us regarding your online Guild Wars Access Key purchase. As is stated during the checkout process, NC Interactive, Inc. does not give full or partial refunds for items purchased in the Guild Wars Official Store. I apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this may cause.

Regards,
Guild Wars Account Support
Uh....why did they request my last 4 digits of my credit card if they didn't intend on helping me? I honestly feel that now they're just playing around with me.

You should have taken the necessary measures to safeguard your access keys in much the same way as the rest of us do. Guess you're stuffed!

When I first type that up I didn't feel it necessary to go into my living situation, I was just angry and typed that up. It wasn't until you decided to point out that I threw it out that I felt it necessary to go back and add more.

But ya, seriously, thanks for your kind words!

They have a phone number you could try calling for access. I've never been able to get through, but there's always hope. I wish I could offer more advice, but you have tried everything I could think of for customer service...

/signed for a better customer service, as it took about a week for them to change my playNC account password since I forgot it.

do you really want to give these people MORE money after they treat you like that?

I would NEVER buy any of their products again, you don't need this kind of grief.

I have a headache after my last exchange.

They told me that the new owner of the account sent the physical keys of all campaigns/expansions to the company in order to claim ownership and I need to do the same if I want to claim ownership.

Uh...how did that mystery person get a hold of my keys - or rather, how did they send a physical copy of my Eye of the North expansion key I bought digitally from PlayNC?

Even worse:

Although you were able to verify the billing information used to purchase the Guild Wars: Eye of the North Access Key from the Guild Wars In-Game Store, that original creator of the Guild Wars game account is the only person we recognize as owning that key. As such, we will be unable to assist you with your request to release or transfer the Eye of the North key to a different account.
These people are so illogical it's ridiculous.
