Do you HAVE to take a second profession to be able to move on from pre-searing,and if not how do I go about it?

Yes, it's required to complete the quests to leave Pre.

Try them all "to get practice, xp and skills" then when YOU are happy its working out and only then make the secondary permanent and move on.

secondary can be changed but it will be a long time before you reach that point.

The reason I asked is because I was told that you could take warrior for both professions....or have I not got to the point to do that yet and if not where can I do it?

you can take warrior secondary if you are not warrior primary, and yes you require a secondary to go to post.

Nope can't take can't take same profession as your primary. But there would be no reason to anyway - no different attributes, skills or points.

By the way, there is a way to make a single profession toon and play through prophecies and factions (I think). Make a toon in NF then get a ferry to the docks before taking your 2nd profession. From there you can head to prophecies or factions. My single prof char is in EotN going for survivor. When he finishes that I'm going to see if I can take him all the way through both those campaigns without ever getting 2nd prof. So if you really really want to have single prof that would be the way to go. But as for leaving pre without 2nd - can't do it. (Unless, maybe, you could get hold of some contraband and get ANet to kick your character in to post - Do they make you choose a 2nd if they do that?)

It's kinda funny,I've noticed that there are some builds that take Warrior as BOTH professions, but am told that you can't take warrior on both...HOW are certain people able to do it?

There is NO point in taking the same profession as your primary and secondary - nothing would be gained. The only advantage to taking a profession as your primary is the armor and the class-specific attribute (in the case of warriors, it's strength).

Regardless, there is never any advantage to taking a class twice, even if you could, and so anyone talking about doing so doesn't know enough about the game to be giving advice to anyone. The only thing that I can think of is if you somehow stuck w/ only your primary profession and never picked up a secondary, but even then, there's no point in doing so... you're only limiting yourself.

BTW, link us to one of these builds that claims they took warrior as both their primary and secondary...

If something requires warrior/warrior, then it means warrior/any, meaning the secondary profession is irrelevant and only warrior skills are being used. Understand?

Just because you "have a second profession" doesn't mean you need to use those skills. But your secondary gives you a ton more "options" on what you can do with your character. So why would you not?

But as everyone else has mentioned, you have to select a secondary profession to proceed thru the "searing". So select one that would best compliment your primary and your play style.

Apparently, yes, you have to take a secondary profession. If you are really unsure as to what secondary to take and/or you are new to the game, I'd recommend Monk as your secondary. But I don't recommend you actually try to be a monk (as a secondary) in any sense. (that is, don't be concerned with healing other people.)
The reason for taking monk as a secondary is just so that you can have what is known as a "hard" rez instead of the [wiki]Resurrection Signet[/wiki]. The signet can only be used once (unless recharged by killing a boss or getting a Morale boost), but a monk skill, such as [wiki]Resurrect[/wiki] can be used as often as needed.
Also, you can (depending upon your primary profession) get a better "self heal" from the monk line. When you are putting points into your various primary attributes, you will often have a few "left-over" points. Just put the left-overs into Healing Prayers and perhaps take along [wiki]Healing Breeze[/wiki] - which, btw, has been updated since that listing - it's now longer and stronger.

Just as a historical note, it wasn't always necessary. My very first character after release was a plain elementalist. She has since been deleted, but there might still be a few people out there with single-profession avatars.

You used to be able to do the profession quest and accept the reward, then not actually accept when they offer you the profession. This was sufficient to complete the quest for a second profession, even though you didn't actually acquire one. I'm not sure if this has been changed.

You'll notice that the website requires a primary and secondary to be listed for all build submissions. If the website was more accurate, it would not permit the same profession to be listed twice. That is a failing of the website and gives an incorrect impression of the game's mechanics.

In short, they only listed 'W/W' because the website seems to require *something* for the secondary profession. Why the poster didn't just list *anything* else for the secondary is beyond me...
