Ok well i just got this game as a christmas present, i play Silkroad Online but i have always wanted to play this game.

(Question one)
Iam from Uk and i wanted to know at the start of registering it says for me to choose country now on silkroad i play with Americans as its hard to find english speaking euro people ^^ so if i choose america can i ever change back?.

(Question two)
Ok now about the builds: iam abit lost around these forums and dont know what builds there are could someone maybe link me to a newbie guide?

(Question three)
servers like on Silkroad you must choose a server you want to play on and you have to stay there. Is it the same here?

These are the only questions i can think of right now, maybe someone could answer them for me

Thanks & Merry Crimbo

(Answering this first because it will make later answers make more sense)
There are no separate servers in Guild Wars. Your character will be in the same game world as everyone else's, essentially. Every town/outpost/city/etc is divided into "districts," which you can move between freely. You can inhabit the American, International, or European English/German/French/Russian/Polish districts at any time you wish and change whenever.

Between cities are explorable areas and missions which your party will have their own instance of.

I don't think your choice of territory matters anymore. I suspect its a relic of ages past when Guild Wars was divided by region. Now, as I said earlier, everything is done by districts for each territory, which you are free to move around in. I think you're perfectly safe to choose the American territory.

I play with plenty of people from the UK/Australia/New Zealand every day and whether we're in the American, European, or International districts seems to matter little.

Don't worry too much about using a "good build" at this point. You won't have the resources at your disposal when you first start out to even be concerned with that. Put together the skills you start out with in a way that seems like it makes sense, and have some fun with it.

I don't know of any definitive "newbie guides to the game in general," but Stickied at the top of most of the forums here are guides for more specialized aspects. Keep an eye out for those. If you have a specific question you can't find an answer to, just ask here... or if its profession-specific, go ask in one of the Profession forums in the Campfire section.

Welcome to GW! Hope you enjoy yourself.

(Question one)
Yes, you can change regions from europe to american and back. You can even meet up with people in international districts without changing your home region.

(Question two)
Everything you need to know to get started can be found here: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

(Question three)
Each region covers the entire GW universe, so you can access any area that is covered by the chapter(s) you have on your account (Prophecies, Nightfall, factions and the expansion GW:Eye of the North.) I don't know how silk road works, but in GW, you can interact with people in whatever district of the town you're in. There are some chat channels that appear anywhere in the game, such as Guild chat and Private Messages. When you're in an instance area, it's just you and your party. You won't run into any other parties while outside of towns (there are a couple of exceptions, tho)

Your selection of territory will only effect the default for which district you enter. If you select Europe with French language, you'll default to a french speaking district. You can always change districts afterwards, but by default, that's where you'll end up.

Welcome to the game and I hope you enjoy it! I think your questions were answered very well so I will just welcome you and say have lots of fun!

Don't sell your dye to the merchant for 1 gold!
Black dye is worth somewhere around 5K so don't get ripped off!
Armor is customized so you cannot wear some one else's armor...get it from a collector or merchant.
Take your time and enjoy the game, don't get run through on your first go.
Try out the different professions and secondarys until you find something that suits you and you have fun with.

Have fun! It is a great game!

The main difference is simply where you're "home" server is. I don't know for sure, but it does seem that there must be different server farms for different regions because my ping changes as I go from region to region. Therefore, for the best ping, you may want to stick with the "euro" region. The districts in the "euro" region are further sub-divided by language, so you should have no problem finding other English-speaking players.
At any rate, you can change between America, Euro, and International regions anytime with no penalty. So, you should be able to avoid playing with Americans.

As Iredescentfyre said, don't worry about "builds" at this point.

No, everything in GW is "instanced" - that is, you and your party explore in your own private world and don't interact with other players. Therefore, there is no need for "servers" in GW, in the sense that they are used in Silkroad, WoW, etc.
