I have tried

and

Both made my ears very sore after a short period of time. I am looking for a headset that covers the whole ear, every headset I have found covers only a small portion of the ear, and as a result, squeezes against the ear, which makes my ears hurt. Are their any headsets available in a local retail store( Walmart, Bestbuy, Circuit City, Radio Shack), that cover the whole ear? Or if anyone could list some good headsets that would be great as well.

I would go for that one from Microsoft. I got one for christmas, and can confirm that it entirely covers my ears, with room to spare, and does a very good job of muting external noises, and my ears are not small, and my head is quite large (before anybody says anything, I am 6 feet 5 inches tall......). The microphone is on a nice long flexible boom and seems to do it's job very well as well. Sound quality is quite good as well, on a par really with the sound I get using an old creative 4 point surround set of speakers on a Realtek integrated sound system, if not actually better (I hear noises on my headset that I don't hear with my speakers).
They're very comfortable, the only down sides been they aren't that fancy to look at and your ears get very warm from been completely covered for long periods of time.

I would recommend getting some good speakers and a loose microphone. I use this a lot as I find it comfortable. However whenever I use headphones I prefer to have a separate microphone. I currently have a microphone which clips to the wearers shirt and a pair of Sennheiser eH 250 Headphones for when the vent conversations get a bit private or adult

You might have big ears maybe, or at least bigger than average.
