With all that negative talk they still give it an 8.1?

Hmmm..Their rating was much better than mine.

Stupid review. It reads something like this:
"It's Guild Wars, just like previous 3 chapters. It's not something else."
Why go review a GW game, and then complain about being GW. It's like saying Burning Crusade sucks because it's like WoW, but with 10 more levels. Isn't that the whole point? And whining about community?
The only thing that carries any weight in the review is that GWEN is nothing but overpriced GW 2 advertisement.

It's pretty much the same review I've seen everywhere.
Oh well, I like GWEN a lot...

Reviews are over rated. No one can really tell you if YOU will like a game or not. Useless critism IMO.

No idea why the reviews ever seem to expect new weapons and armour to be anything more than cosmetic, the game has never had 'epic gear' or any of that malarky.

Terrible review. I find that most reviewers don't even play the game through. There were actually loads of new things added to the game, take the sound setup for instance. Music changes to fit environment and actions, and when interacting with NPC's they now talk... sort of. Anyway, major change, and he says the sound design is similar to the other games.
The graphics aren't as pretty as the upcoming Age of Conan? Age of Conan is upcoming. In fact, I never really expected graphics to be better than the original Prophecies, only so much can improve on the same engine.
"GWEN is set up to allow you to progress through the entire game without ever having to interact with another player, although missions later in the game are close to impossible to complete relying solely on the NPC heroes."
The above makes no sense. Contradictory statement much?

Awful review not to mention it's 4 months too late. Why even bother to write one at this point yanno ? I am sure his tune will change once he sees GW2 though

I thought the review was okay.
It did say EotN wasn't bad, just not that great.
I thought so too.

Meh w/e I like EotN. I can see where they say it's short, but Graphics Quality? It's nice, a lot better than the last campaigns assuming you have a good graphics card. The game is nearly 3 years old, what are you to expect? It doesn't really talk about the mini-games or the fact that they added collision!!! (Norn skill in a mish).
I don't think the reviewer knows 100% what he/she's talking about, the HoM is a big advertised feature, but it's not the biggest.
Anywho, I think GameSpot has a fair review of EotN.

I think as far as graphics go, Anet is renowned for an outstanding design team that outweighs the fact that they're forced to use their limited graphics engine, which most reviewers comment on. However, it doesn't seem to have occured to this reviewer.
Oh well, I think they still do fantastically with the old engine they use.

My point was, how the hell can you compare a released game's graphics to those of a game that is not yet released. It is like saying Guild Wars doesn't have as good graphics as Crysis 2. Hell, it is like saying Guild Wars doesn't have as good graphics as Guild Wars 2. Duh.

Well you guys are obviously heavily biased. It was shite. Just learn to understand. The review was pretty much right. I find it fun but, but I still find it totally shite.
I think EotN is one of the most beautiful lands.. Snow at night=major win for me.

I like it the what's new section that they mention that the new weapon and armour skins in the game are mainly cosemetic upgrades, lol. Also criticism for a three year old engine having only moderate graphics compared to thus years releases is not really valid in my opinion. I agree with him on the music, but i see no mention of gameplay, just techinical stuff, like sound, graphics, and things which the game can't help, mainly community and performance (which depends on the system it's been played on), even though it got good comments on teh last one. To be honest, not a great review.
Edit:
I discussed this review further in a blog post, it's here if you'd like to read, to save my self the bother of a ctrl+c, ctrl+v.

Aah, one more review by someone who wishes GW was a different game.
He misses leveling, wants cooler loot, etc., etc., etc., etc. yaaaawn.
I love the way he faults GW for not making you play with other people, right after admitting that the biggest flaw in the roleplaying experience is the mere EXISTENCE of other players.
I agree. All MMORPGs would be more immersive without all the other people. If immersion is what you're looking for, turn off chat, hang out in international zones, or go play a singleplayer game.

So just a few thoughts from me.
Hello Options Panel which lets you maximize your graphics to make GW:EN look truely amazing.
Right... because there are so many RP'rs in all MMO games.
Right why would you want to pick up some PvE skills and the most overpowered skills in the game?
Random ramblings about how everything is a rip-off and the HoM was put in simply to keep people busy certainly seems to discredit the reviewer.
Right because the HoM won't let you access rare stuff in GW2 or anything. Even though some of the content is crap this is the most important guild wars release if you plan on playing GW2.
Really though. You can't expect much from a review of an MMO. There's so much to do in an MMO and I'm willing to bet the reviewer has spent under 100 hours playing. Obviously a hardcore players review would tend to be much more accurate (or maybe even biased) than someone who has barely touched the game. So take the review with a grain of salt. Even still the reviewer was nice enough to give it an 8 something =/

Roleplaying – Ye Olde LFG Following in the footsteps of its older brothers, GWEN fails to induce much roleplaying. The story is there, but they break in to it with immersion killing real world references once again. I still have yet to run in to another player who was roleplaying anything other than a stripper. “LOLZ – WTB life for u, stoopid nub rper, lol11!!!!11” |

A lot of the new skills are available for purchase, and to be honest they didn't do much for me. |

But hey! Here's a plot ripped straight from the pages of The Lord of the Rings! The Dwarves and Asura dug too deep, and now evil is creeping up from the depths! But this time, it's not a Balrog, it's...uh...Destroyers! Yeah, Destroyers, that's it. Oh, and look! A Hall of Monuments, where you'll be able to display your achievements and get bonuses from them, in GUILD WARS 2! |

This is the first Guild Wars release that I would recommend you skip unless you really need something to play until GW2 is released. |

What's New? Honestly? Not much. GWEN ships with a little over 150 new skills, which breaks down to about 10 new skills per class plus some shared skills. It also features 40 new armor sets and 10 new heroes. There are, of course, new weapons and items, but – like the 40 new armor sets – they are all mostly cosmetic upgrades. |
Could someone who has actually played GWEN and not just browsed forums and watched the preview write a review?

Having Gone through Guild Wars Eye of the North, I was drawn into the storyline, but was sad to find that the aspect of repetative play was still present. The idea behind Eye of the North was still the same old C-Space & Run to the next mob deal. It promised a challenging new aspect of the game, but this promise, to me, did not seem fulfilled at all. The hardest part of the game I saw was creatures ressurecting, which is easily counterable. Other than that, it was no harder than anything else I've encountered in the latter and of the other campaigns.
All in all, the same idea, the same armors, the same grind, and, ultimatly, the same.

Graphics
Is he saying HG:L graphics are better than GW:EN? Or can even be compared?
Sure it might have some neat weapon skins, but the enviroment is - meh at best- and the armours are all blotchy. I think he should upgrade his graphics card.

Even tough i like GW:EN a lot, i wouldn't give it more then 75%.

Let's face it, the EoTN storyline IS really short. You can't count dungeons as part of the main storyline. You can finish EoTN in a day, and still have time to live a normal life during that day as well.

GW:EN feels like what you would get from a good student in school that got lazy on a huge project and rushed it all together the night before. (rep grind, armor reskins, short story) You can see where all the shortcuts have been taken and it's just a bit disappointing.
Asha Rai
Not a single mention of dungeons in the review; makes me think the reviewer never really played the game. He also doesn't mention titles for PVE skills, then complains GWEN skills don't do much for him. I get the impression he never quested for any of those skills, but simply reviewed the skills you could immediately buy from the skill trainer.
TheLordOfBlah
probably the worst review ever. They can comment on the graphics all they want but it shouldn't have anything to do with the rating. Wow it doesn't look as good as upcoming games? what a surprise!!!$#!!1eleven2 Its built off the same engine they've used for the past.. almost 3 years now. You don't see low ratings for world of warcraft because IT looks like shit so you?

I think this guy's response to the review was more helpful than the review itself:

So I take it that people here are complaining that the review was bad because they disagree with the points made?
"Game is short" - So what it's an expansion!
"Graphics are bad" - So what it's old engine!
"There's no players to group with" - So what use henchmen!
*lol*

Well lets be honest.
GW:EN only introduced more content. It didn't bring anything to the game that we haven't seen done already and done better by previous chapters. Producing the same game twice doesn't mean you get equally high scores and excitement. There was also relatively no impact on the game itself which suggests the things that were added were somewhat inconsequential. If anything, the gameplay was made more generic by terms of MMOs with the grindable title skills.
I suppose the game could get a decent score because they essentially kept what works, which is really all you can ask without them having to completely redevelop the game.

As a games reviewer and journalist i've never seen the point in scoring Expansions, because they are just that, Expansions on what you already have
