Hi there,

I have been having this really annoying problem over the past month at certain places the game will freeze, well kind of. The image on the screen is frozen but the game continues to run in the background. You can activate skills, listen to the music etc. This only happens when hitting areas of the Prophecies campaign with lots of snow fall such as the middle of Snake Dance and the start of the Iron Horse Mine. Every time I hit the same spot the game will freeze as I described.

If I turn AA off I no longer have the problem but have been playing GW on my currently machine configuration for a year now and never had this problem until recently. I have always ran GW at 1440x900 4xAA, maximum settings with 60-70 FPS no problem until now. I have already re-installed the game and the problem persists.

My PC Specification is:

Windows Vista Business 64-Bit
AMD Athalon 64 x2 4200 Dual-Core
2 GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT 256 MB
ASUS A8N SLI Motherboard

If anyone has a similar experience with a similar set-up please let me know.

Thanks, will keep my fingers crossed.

Anyone got any ideas, I have uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers and even updated to latest ones with no luck.

EDIT: Just tried Azagoth's advice and still no joy, set the affinity to either cpu core and still the game screen freezes in the exact same spot coming into Iron Horse Mine and Snake Dance. Even thought of buying a new Geforce 8800GT but it won't fit my mother board because a stupid fan is in the way. All in all a bad few days

Try running Guild Wars on just one CPU! It's a well known and documented fact that AMD dual-core's are having a problem with Guild Wars, even if the imept monkeys at ANet support refuse to admit it.

Just fire GW up and then minimise it. Bring up Task Manager and right click the Gw.exe entry and choose "Set Affinity". Then just untick one of the boxes.

Anyone got any more ideas for me please really stuck, not sure what else to try.

EDIT: Ok reverted my drivers way back to Forceware 162.22 and this has solved the problem, strange how the newer ones cause problems. Since a Geforce 7600 GT can't play the most recent games anyway this isn't a problem just hope when I get a new machine later in the year I don't have it again.

It's a vista issue. I and a buddy had the same problem and he reverted and everything works fine now. Shortly thereafter, I reverted back to XP also.

Not much you can do about it bud besides go back to XP..sorry.
