Look at the sales forum and you can see many people atempting to buy exspensive weapons, with perfect mods, often with a 15^50 inscription. Spending a lot of money just to get the weapon that they feel will do the most damage, and look the best doing it. Then what happens?

Well, hopefully they customize it. We are all aware that once you customize a weapon, it loses it's resale value, and no one else can use it. But look at what customizing your weapon does. 20% bonus. You spend 100k + ectos on a "perfect" "tyrian" storm bow, while hell, you could pick up a max damage white stormbow, cutomize it, and wow, the same skin and more damage 100% of the time!

I'm not saying you shouldn't buy weapons like this, I'm addicted to it myself, but for the love of god, if you are buying a martial weapon as your chief damage output (That means all non-caster melee weapons and projectile weapons) customize it! If you are worried you'll want to sell it later, or it might hurt you too much in the long run.. don't buy it. Be smart and buy a weapon you can afford comfortably and get the most out of it. It amazes me how few people customize their weapons.

I have similar feelings on the importance of r8-9 when you are struggling financially, but that's a bit more complicated.

Anyways, post your thoughts/debates/experiences

I couldn't agree more. Any character that uses a martial weapon as their main source of DPS (W, R, A, P, D) that isn't using a customized weapon is intentionally making the game harder than it needs to be. The price difference between 14^50 and 15^50 is massive, and rightly so I guess, as everyone wants a "perfect" weapon, but the mind boggles at someone who would spend many thousands (or more) in gold to get an extra 1% damage, and not a paltry 10g for an extra 20%!

The one and only time I've even come close to regretting customizing a weapon is on my ranger on my 2nd account. In recent months, I've been making new characters on my primary account to sort of replace the 2nd account so that I'll eventually only have the one with all professions. The aforementioned ranger, sadly, has a customized Drago's Flatbow though, but even still, I don't regret doing it. While I played that ranger, he was 20% more effective.

Just make sure when you buy a weapon to actually use, that you choose wisely.

I agree in some ways and in other ways I hold my own opinions. I have many, many weapons that I use. On my ranger alone I have about 20 different bows of all different types many of the perfects and req8-9. None of them are customized simply because many times I will end up selling these items, even though a few I plan never to sell a few of them. I just simply don't like the fact that if you have such an expensive thing, you should render it's value worthless. Besides having enough skills and ability to play can easily overcome a 20% damage value when playing in PvE.

There's no excuse for using an uncustomised martial weapon.

I wish the +20% was only customized not the whole weapon... or at least make the cuztomization account-wide

Yeah...people with all of their fancy Tormented Scythes who think they are godly, but my customized collector version actually does more damage.

My rule of thumb is to customize Green items(that I will use for certain more than once) or perfectly modded items that I know for a fact I will never sell. All else is fair game for resale.

because I'm going to customize weapons on my monk... (sarcasm for those without their detectors on) it's only feasible on a PLAYER character.

the only thing customization and the 15>50 innate mod affects is the base damage, which is negligible in Hard mode (yay for hitting 1-7 damage on lvl 28 mobs).

I have a sin and a ranger. Both use bows a lot of the time. What shall I do? Get doubles? I've beat all the missions on NM, 70% on HM, vanqd many places, done many dungeons, all on a warrior with an uncustomized weapon and I work just fine thank you. I'm not PvPing with you, let me do what I want. I have *counts* 20 gold swords/axes on this warrior, and every once in a while I get one with a smaller req of the same skin, or an inherent 15^50 instead of inscribable, and replace it. Some I take screenshot art with on my warrior even though it's a caster sword for my 55. If the customization was account wide, I wouldn't have a problem, but since I only use four main weapons 95% of the time, I'll leave the non-BMPs uncustomized.

What's with the HoM customization? D: Discuss THAT.

Well, I for one customize every item I (playing monk) use, and all the items I put on heroes. And if there was a way to customize offhands/shields I would customize them also.

Could you explain why?

there really needs to be a reason for casters to customise...then again casters dont really suffer the "customise and cant resell" problem...most caster stuff doesnt sell anyway....

O.o Caster weapons are often martial weapons.

agree. there is no reason to use less damage weapons.

my suggestion about new effect of customization:
staves gain 5% HCT/HSR and 2 more energy
wands gain 5% HCT/HSR
focus items gain 2 more energy
shields gain 2 more armor

Due to rounding, there's no difference between 14 and 15% except on hammer and scythe.

Would that have any PvP drawbacks from such a change?

And yet the price difference is often astronomical. And people pay it. But not 10g for an extra 20% because apparently it makes the item "worthless". I understand that for some, the whole point of Guild Wars is nothing more than acquiring "wealth", but I personally think a rare weapon is worth more (to me) once it's been customized.

Sure, you can't sell it later, but really, if you want to replace it at some stage, it's not like gold is hard to come by in this game.

Just my 2g, anyway.
