/Rt spirit spamming worked for me. Some people here say they made it with /Me with Crippling Anguish and degeneration spells from the mesmer class. You have to use your secondary profession for this basically.

Heh, this one took me a LONG time to figure out as well. Eventually, I figured out that Ebon Dust Aura works well to negate most of his damage. It's been a while since I've done it, but I think this is how the main part went:
[skill]Victorious Sweep[/skill][skill]Mystic Sweep[/skill][skill]Flail[/skill][skill]Ebon Dust Aura[/skill][skill]Staggering Force[/skill]
Scythe Mastery: 12+1+1
Earth Prayers: 12+1
Mysticism: 3
To the left side of where you arrive, there is a building with 2 little spike things jutting from the ground in front of it. Go there and wait for the Griffon to arrive and cast it's spirits. Once the Griffon is done, pull it next to you and if you do it right, the spirit's attacks shouldn't hit you. Immediately hit Mystic Sweep to blind him and start auto-attacking. Activate Flail whenever it's up and use Victorious followed by Mystic Sweep to take out any spirits that the Griffon then tries to summon. This takes a few tries to get the hang of and relies on a bit of luck in pulling the Griffon.
Also, a variant would be to use Heart of Fury instead of Flail and bring Mending Touch or Dismiss Condition to remove blind if Shadowsong manages to hit you. If this is the case, time your condition removal to land just after Shadowsong hits you, then immediately hit Mystic Sweep to (hopefully) dispatch it and continue on. Also, put the attributes to:
Scythe Mastery: 11+1+1
Mysticism: 11+1
Earth Prayers: 8+1
I hope this helps you .
(P.S. This general build also dispatches a lot of the hard bosses in EotN such as Magni the Bison)

I'm pretty sure that the rit build is an offensive communing/channeling spirit spammer build (Anguish, Shadowsong, Bloodsong, Pain, Painful Bond, etc.) Just set up spirits as soon as you get in there and wait for the Griffon to come.
I haven't tried the mesmer build yet, but I believe the strategy is to keep him away from you by using slowing hexes such as Imagined Burden or Crippling Anguish while degenning him with Conjure Phantasm, Conjure Nightmare, and other spells.
Also Coloneh, do you not aggro the Griffon if you're far enough away by using a longbow or something, or do you have to kite him while keeping conditions on him?

you aggro him, but you can usually get 5 or six shots on him before he cets off his ass and decides to start moving twords you. then you kite like two steps back and do it again.
Your range should be most of the radar range with a longbow from the top of the hill.

The other thing is that Wanderlust or Warmonger's Weapon are good ways to stop him creating spirits initially. Spirits should do enough damage to kill him after that.

For this quest I went with /R
[skill]apply poison[/skill][skill]savage shot[/skill][skill]"I Am The Strongest!"[/skill][skill]"Finish Him!"[/skill][wiki]deft strike[/wiki][skill]troll unguent[/skill]
12 Marksmanship
12 Wilderness Survival
That with a flatbow and you should safely be able to kill it from afar. For the other 2 skills you can use something like [skill]favorable winds[/skill] and [skill]watchful intervention[/skill]/[skill]faithful intervention[/skill]

You must have beaten it by now but just in case. I am a derv/any and here's what i did.
5 skills
Crippling Anguish {E}
Conjure Phantasm
Conjure Nightmare
Web of Disruption
Vital Boon
Equipment:
Slot 1: Amiresh's Piety (E +15/-1), Blazing Wing Wand (E +5enchanted)
This gives you somewhere around 50-55 E
Slot 2: Anything to give you back the -1 from Amiresh's Piety
Attributes:
Illusion Magic: 12
Earth Prayers: 12+2
As far as attributes go, the important thing is illusion magic. I put the rest in Earth for VB because it was my emergency healing skill but as you'll read later, if you do this right, you don't really need it.
What you do:
When the Griffon turns hostile, cast CA first followed by CP, CN (any order on those two), and try to interrupt Dissonance with WoD. Then turn and run away and switch to slot 2. It'll say your E is zero but don't worry about that, your E will pop back where it should be when you switch back. Switch back to slot 1 when CA is recharged, make sure dissonance is dead and do the same thing all over again. Sometimes you won't have enough E to cast all three, but you should have enough to cast 2 of them. It is important not to give him enough time to heal too much so just hit him with CA for sure and CP/CN (CN if possible because it does more degen).
The only time i used VB was if i just got knocked around by those spirits a little too much. The time between attacks should be enough to let you heal up while you're out of aggro. Only use WoD on Dissonance AND when it won't hurt your E management. ALWAYS wait for Spirit of Dissonance to die before casting (or else you get interrupted and have to run for your life) and always cast CA first so you can get away if something does go wrong. That Griffon can pack a mean punch.
I'm not gonna lie to you it takes a while to kill that thing using this method but i must have spent an unnecessary 7-8k on skills (since I already knew all of these) before I tried this and died at least 10 times. I tried a Ranger sec and kited around to get him stuck as suggested above but never found the right spot. I finally tried this while eating taco bell and deciding I might have to give up.
Any profession should be able to use this with Me as their secondary, but casters may have to bring an armor boosting skill. That shouldn't hurt their E management though since they generally have more E than a Derv.
Good luck.
Thanks Destromath for the idea.
