That is the only way to start making money, it may just be 3 gold here 4 gold there but it all adds, also and it sounds stupid but dont spend money.
In the begining you don't have too, collectors provide armor and weapons till you reach the main parts of the game.
There is absolutely no point in buying anything less than max protection armor.
When you start getting coloured drops Blue Purple and much later gold items consider a, Identification kit and then a salvage kit.
Id the colored items to increase value before selling, Salvage the white items for materials collectors require for arour and weapons.
Again dont use money for these use the tokens you get from missions to buy them.
When you reach a reasonable level solo easy areas that way you get all the drops.
Consider clearing an area before settling down to do missions and again before you pack in for the day.
Before you know it you will have a comfortable stash of money and probably well on the way to affording a decent suit of armour.
If you want to go beyond this level ie 100k 200k etc then its serious farming or learning item prices and becoming a trader in rare collectable items.

Don't try buy low/sell high untill you have a thorough understanding of the rarity of ALL items in GW. Imo, Underworld and Fissure Of Woe farming for a few months will fetch you real nice money (PM me in game or here if you need help). Pay attention to what you see in trade chat, ask around, compare prices. Sooner or later, it'll all come to you and you'll be able to notice rare items being sold cheaply and can buy+sell higher. Gl! I know for me it took at least a year to understand the market.
