Every now and then I hear that when GW2 is released, Players will not longer be able to add new monuments. Now.

Is it true, is there definitive quote from anet representative that this will happen? Because its quite dumb ... id rather believe that its FUD someone made up and not okayed idea by some anets designer.

Not only it is basically "deathblow" to GW1, it also reduces all potential sales of GW1 related products to practical zero. Grind under pressure (looming GW2 release) is not that much pleasant either.

Besides, there are still some unanswered questions, like: Will more characters be able to inherit from single old character (aka, does monument gathering on single main character make sense if you want to have multiple GW2 characters...)?

This is just a guess, so take what I say with a grain, but I'm thinking the HoM will be unchangeable once you make a new character linked to that particular character's HoM. So maybe you could keep updating a GW1 character's HoM as long as there is no new character in GW2 that considers that character as an ancestor. I hope that's clear; and again, just a guess.

I believe it has been stated before by Gaile that as you update your GW1 Hom, then the benefits from it will be transferred to your GW2 character. However, since so much is still in flux I would aim to try and get as much done within the useful lifespan of GW1 as possible.

I remember reading something which seemed to say that once you'd created your GW2 character the HoM would then be locked, and it was recent (as in the last month or two). However, googling hasn't helped me find anything, although I think it was a Jeff Strain interview. Maybe you'll have more luck than me. The only reason I remembered it was because it surprised me, in as much as working on the HoM would be something of a waste of time after you've rolled your GW2 character. As I can't find it, I can't help with a direct quote so treat all the above as BS till someone can.

Like Shanaeri, I'm not taking anything for granted, there's plenty of time and I'll just fill it up in my own sweet time.. then if we can add more stuff that'll be cool.

Edit:

Just found this on a devchat transcript. Although that doesn't necessarily mean it's legit, it seems to be a log of a GameSpy Arcade LiveWire devchat, and also looks pretty old, things may have changed since then:

<[Admin]Angelic> *OlanDurai[FgDy]-gs* If we go and transfer stuff in HoM... will we still be able to use it in GW... and will we be able to earn more for HoM after our GW2 characters inherite it?
<GuildWarsDevTeam> Mike says, "Yes, and yes. Building a monument to an accomplishment does not take that accomplishment away from you. And even after you link a character in GW2 to your Hall of Monuments...
<GuildWarsDevTeam> ... you can continue to build monuments in Guild Wars and they will benefit you in GW2.

I doubt it for 2 reasons.

1. When people see all the 1337 loot that will be recieved from the HoM achievements there will be crying and QQing cos it will be 'unfair' that they cant go back to GW1 and farm up their titles.

2. Some people who just buy GW2 without having played GW1 (yes it will happen) may even reverse buy GW1 for the '1337 loot' and we all know Anet <3 sales.

In the interview last month they explicitly stated you can "go back" and finish off a GW1 title for the GW2 HoM benefit. That's in keeping with their plan to keep the GW1 servers running until no one plays it.

Will the hall be locked when GW2 comes out? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:84.56.226.91 .

I've heard that it won't be, so you can keep customizing it or adding things in it if you want. Alaris 23:16, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Anyone have confirmation to this one way or another? 69.31.193.138 18:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

I assumed that if someone wanted to purchase GW:EN and work on the HoM after release of Guild Wars 2, he or she could do so. Let me include this in the CS this week and see if I can get a formal answer. -- Gaile 18:57, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

there you have it im sure the hall will NOT be locked

Sorry, all that confirms is that Gaile doesn't know one way or the other.

So, bottom line, still no definate answer, and probably won't be until closer to GW2 release. But logic says that the HoM will remain active, as others have suggested, to keep the orginal GW sellable.

Yes - in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of The Leopard"
