according to Spooky (alpha tester) for survival in the non PVP the monk secondary is hard to beat

since i have to solo most of the time with henchmen i will be looking very hard at the ranger/monk build

this is when using henchmen and refers to the henchmen AI

as it is how the henchmen AI would react to this situation. Once you cast on your target, the Warrior is going to rush in to engage it, which will bring the aggro of anything else in the area down upon you, and that's how you get yourself into a bad situation.
I recommended the Ranger because they have range superiority over an Ellie (using a Flatbow, for example) and because of AI changes, the henches are less likely to go running off at a distance to the target you attacked, instead, it's more likely that they'll come to you.

Monk secondary is the choice pick for any build that is looking to survive in PvE. A R/Mo can come in very handy in PvP, too.

There is no real "best" secondary. Lots of people will say different things, so don't think just because what works for someone else will work for you. You have to pick what you are most comfortable with, how you play, and what will bring about the most fun for you.

If you want to provide support to your team, be R/Mo.
If you want high power in range combat, be R/E.
If you want to be a strong anti-caster, be R/Me.
If you want to be a strong anti-warrior, be R/N.
If you want to be pure physical power, be R/W.

That's my general opinion of the different ranger combinations. It doesn't mean the roles can't change, ie, R/Me be strong anti-warrior, it's just a general view.

I myself prefer R/W, which is what I play. A lot of people look down on that combination, but it suits my style. I also like the option that I can attack with my bow at a good range in some of my builds, yet I have the option to be a "light" tank with a sword or ax if I want. R/Me is a common build. Maybe try that cause you will no doubt get a lot of feedback. Good luck.

Ok before (or maybe after if im too slow) people start saying and arguing over which is best, i'd like to state that NONE IS BEST. that doesnt mean rangers are bad, but the game is made so there are no bad charachter combos, so just pick what looks cool and try it out.

hear hear...my sentiments exactly. a ranged weapon doesn't work well for enemies w/ only melee attacks...and there are quite a few of those. make sure your armor is something to write home about because you need it dealing with melee attacks.

Mo/W

well i had my first choice as a ranger/me at the begining of feb bwe and well... i didnt use very many attacks for the memser except the life drain skill this time im gona go for a ranger/warrior because i can switch from bow to sword when monsters come near me... but the only problems with it is that well no life drain spells which ill need to survive
