A solution to PvE leavers
Mr_Cynical
The reconnect feature has been, on the whole, fantastic for people with unreliable internet connections (and those playing with them). However, it can't deal with the other main cause of PvE aggro: people deliberately leaving. Now perhaps this could be solved with a version of the 'dishonor' system, but it would be pretty difficult to enforce (and easy for item-scammers etc. to exploit). My idea is to henchify any leavers. In other words, for the rest of the level the AI would control a copy of the character in question (ie not preventing the player from logging in themselves) as if it were a henchman. That way teams don't end up being short-handed because of leavers which, in certain areas, can be fatal to their chances. I'm not sure how hard this would be to put in, but it would solve the problems caused by PvE leavers almost perfectly.
Lady Raenef
It has been suggested before. I would like it to happen, but it's quite a lot of work.
You can't see me
I personally suggested this a few months back, so I'll /sign it.
De Morrigans
I think having the AI pick up and play a copy of a character might be too hard to program, but giving the party the ability to add a hero mid-mission seems pretty easy.

I know a better solution: dont pug, go H+H.

But make it a hench of that profession. I hate when someone leaves when I'm trapping in Zashien Elite and it replaces it with a warrior who screws up the whole operation.
oh and:
You just killed the whole purpose of Guild Wars, its a party oriented game. I prefer to play with humans rather than some -5 IQ henchmen and heros.

A better solution: remove hero cap.
Killing pugs does not kill socializing. What do you think towns and outposts are for?

Biostem
Replace a leaver w/ a hench of the same profession.
Put in a timer of, say, 2-3 mins in case of legitimate DC's (so they get a chance to rejoin)

What happens when a person leaves when there isn't a hench of that profession (ie. a Mesmer leaves in Ascalon, a Dervish leaves anywhere out of Nightfall etc)?

Tell me honestly, how many PuGs have you been in that actually socialize outside of rude comments and complaints? Is that small fraction of them really worth suffering through the terrible majority of them?
I'm not saying GW is not a party-oriented game, I'd rather take friends/guild members/anyone whom I know instead of H/H any day. But I'd rather take H/H over some random immature teenager any day, too. Is that unsocial?
But back to the topic, just give an AI control over that player... just pretend that player becomes a hero and let hero AI use its skills. Why bother replacing it with henchmen? If ANet really can't figure out the programming then I guess the PvE-only skills could be removed.
Phoenix Tears
use search ..millions of times being suggested this ...
warcrap
already suggested trying using the search feature once in a while.

And yeah i kinda agree, i think the party leader should be able to add a Hero if someone left, never though of this before. Although it could work like pvp...when the party zones they get a replacement hench. Though it could screw up vanquishing/missions etc...actually forget what i just said :|

I like it, it seems fair, just because you get one elitist in your party that thinks they're R/E with Fire Storm is "teh hotsecks", if they leave, you get that bar controlled by a computer. But, you would be better off than with 7 people.
Reconnect is not just for people with unreliable internet connections. I have cable with a constant DL speed of 6 mb/s. Although, you could have a T3 connection, and it still wouldn't be a big enough shield for the Almighty Error 7. It's mostly just a way to save Anet from rage because they lost their champ point over Anet's server issues.

That said, I don't agree with dishonour system for PvE. If i'm with a useless group I'll leave within the first 10 minutes because I have better things to do with my time than not get the mission done...Not to mention real life issues coming up to prevent you finishing a mission...
I do agree that a hero or hench of the missiong profession should be immediately added so the rest of the team can continue if they want.

I think I like the idea, but I'm not quite sure.
I would like a henchman or hero to replace a leaver, yes. Sometimes I'd rather just go with henchmen and heroes to begin with. My past few groups have been full of assholes. A group attacked us..."omg wtf dont agro thos" And somehow an argument erupted and I stayed out of it, as hard as it was. Henchmen and heroes don't do this. So, what (I think) I am saying is that having a hero or henchman replacing a leaver would not only quiet things down, we'd still have that party member. Win/win.
I'll post this in hopes that it makes sense. I barely understood my own writing.

there is now way to confuse a leaver with a disconnect, leavers leave right away and it says "so and so has left".
just replace them with hench when that occurs.
if disconnected, replace with hench when disconnect timer expires

I don't see what would be hard about this. The game would only have to make a hero identical to the person(same skills, runes, weps etc...) that left and put it in the leaver's place. It could be potentially exploited, however, such as providing people over 3 heroes which is obviously what A-Net doesn't want.
pamelf
But the group has still chosen a player over a hero to begin with. We're not suggesting you just allow a fourth hero to begin with, but only if its necessary due to leaving, and I'd like to see it auto assigned, rather than the team leader adding a hero of theirs as there are still many players without GWEN or NF.
jimmyboveto
Well yes it would be auto assigned, I simply said hero for some reason The player left in the game couldn't customize it, but it would just have all the same traits as the player that was the leaver.
Also, the way it could be exploited is that people could get their buddies to come as a specific setup in a mission and then just leave but you still have an advantage over a norm H/H team.
