Why would it even need to be on steam, have you actually thought about this?

Steam is not directly related to first person shooters, let alone Valve games. It is simply a digital product distribution program/service, but it also serves as an online hub, somewhat like Xbox Live, and clearly a rival to the Games For Windows Live service--except free. Valve's games happen to recieve the most Steam treatment (full integrated features, achievements, etc.) because it's all made in house by Valve.
If you're speculating whether Guild Wars or other NCSoft products will ever enter the Steam haven, then I'd say don't bet on it. If you want to be able to use the Steam Friends feature in Guild Wars, just simply add a custom game in your Steam game list, and launch GW from there. Now while in GW, you can hit up your Steam overlay shortcut and you can start talking to your friends ingame.

Anet and NCSoft would lose money offering Guild Wars through Steam so I don't see it ever happening.

Guild wars being on the list of games would = more people playing

Christ tone down the flames, STEAM gives incredible exposure. i have bought many a game from it purely because its so easy.
For those saying its just for FPS really you need to take a look there are ALL types of games and growing.
To the OP, yeah i think it would be good, of course it would be more expensive as they tend to overcharge but it would get more people playing the game no doubt.

that screenshot is real you can add games to Steam.

Guild wars has always been different, it was the first MMORPG like game that had quality and yet no monthly fee, why not put it on steam give it more exposure which it deserves and then more people will play it = Guild wars 1 forever

This tread should be closed. Most games on steam are offered as a resale. You download the game and play it. GW already does that. You downloadthe game directly from them. And most imortant, the already have the infrastructure to play it.
Dont get me wrong. I like steam. I have it since HL1.
But I dont see GW or GW2 in Steam at all.

I wonder if in the very distant future when GW servers are closed if it would be possible to play GW on private servers using something like Steam.
Say in the future, people stop playing Guild Wars except for a few hundred.
Anet decides to close the servers.
The people out there who have been working on figuring out playing GW on private servers, get permission to go ahead and do that. Then you get private servers with different rulesets popping up and suddenly GW has a retro cult status going.
It could happen. In fact I am going to predict it will in 7-10 years.

what?
no wrong.
the support and product remains Anets/Ncsoft. the ingame store remains Anet/ncsoft.
It just an added distributor thats all...

What is steam? never used such a thing, call me noob if you like.

I have been using Steam since day 1. Valve will only do something if it benefits them. If they are going to make less money by not making anything off the GW in-games store, then they won't support the game through Steam.

Valve/Steam is not going to be running GW. they will just be DISTRIBUTING and promoting it through Steam.
following your train of thought we could never buy any game (product for that matter) from a RL shop.
Why do you think they overcharge? how come they are not responsible for support? You think that because something is on steam that it belongs to Valve? wrong.
They just sell it, give them a sub-forum and give the developers access to their update method. thats all.
Its up to the original developers to work it from there, they support tthe product, they patch it, they mod the sub-forums (usually in the form of "come to our website we can help you there better").
you would KNOW all this if you had been using steam from "day 1" and not just playing CS?

I have purchased many games through Steam, its a great way to purchase games. I know they wouldn't be running the game, the only ones they run are the ones they developed. To my knowledge, none of the games currently on Steam have something build into the game that would allow the games maker to make money that Valve wouldn't benefit from. I just don't ever see Valve/Steam offering a game where the developer is going to make more money on the side that they won't get a cut from.

"Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to digitally distribute and manage games ranging from first-person shooters and RPGs to racing games and cross-genre independent titles. Among its clients are Take-Two Interactive, Eidos Interactive, Introversion Software, Strategy First, PopCap Games, Capcom, id Software, THQ and Rockstar Games.[2][3][4][5][6][7] As of September 2, 2007 over 200 PC games are available on Steam, and there are approximately 13 million active users.[8]"

What would be the point of having GW on Steam? I don't see any advantages over the in-game store.
