After achieving Legendary Survivor
MercenaryKnight
Once I reached legendary survivor I went to guildhall and let my girlfriend kill me with her pet and slow degen. I was happy that it was finally over =P.
Lady Ana Stacia
3 LS here and currently working on 4 & 5
Will be done by H/H all the missions and skill caps along the way
FFF just doesn't sit right with me when going for the title. Oh and as I spend a lot of time in the deep my Monk after reaching LS got to Kana at the end and ran in and let him kill her. Others I just played until I died.

Got my survivor on my warrior a couple of months ago. For me, i didnt work to hard. I payed half the way to get through Cantha and had help from a friend in getting to Lutz the rest of the way. From that point on it was just HFFF. Kinda took the skill out of doing it the old way, lol.
After i got my title, i let my friend who helped me - have the first kill on me. I then just played my other characters and ocasionally played my warrior. Then a month or so ago, i got the need for new armor and a sense of completion for my survivor warrior. So i started in GWEN and beat the whole thing and then got me some Eagle armor, Darkwing Shield, and customized Turia's sword, dyed all white. So i am semi-pimping with my warrior. Proud of the guy. Of course, i probaly will not go for any more titles on this character unless they are account based. I am not a title junkie....looking forward to GW2 now.

Unfortunately, Gaile, random humans are too erratic in their behaviour on the whole to trust to get you through a mission! Heroes and Henchmen are a lot more reliable because they are predictable, and if you get in hot water, and feel the need to zone out, you wont annoy other humans by doing so. Trusted friends are ok though, since they should understand the fact that you're trying for survivor and show patience, as mine did.

As for the OP's question - I've never gotten legendary survivor, I never found the play style to be "fun". My last new character (a Ranger) made rank 1 and around half way to rank 2 before I even noticed and I felt I faced a decision - go for the title or stop it (I had both the desolation and Kilroy Stoneskin's tournament available) and decided that I didn't want to grind. To note, nothing wrong with wanting too, I just felt I would rather play without worry about it. Plus I only have one character that is title hunting and it failed the survivor thing ages ago at around level 3 or 4, well before I knew she would be the one I chose for titles, before that a Tyrian was the character and was around before titles.
Given how grindable the title is I wish they would allow it to just be "exp since last death" (especially true given that a level ten can easily get a run to Killroy Stoneskin's Knock-out thing), however I do understand how many that would tick off and don't really expect it, for whatever reason the new ways to grind the title didn't. But then again, can't say I would bother to do it again either but I wouldn't mind the option - it is not like I am going to be able to climb the KoaBD title tract anyway (I don't have enough time to play to even contemplate much in that).
Anyway I went and did the most spectacular thing I could thing of that was still useful and death leveled me a dire pet that I liked (A Mountain Eagle). Had I bothered to grind out a LS (and with HM Wurm farming one can even do that with no risk of lag death while also farming SS and LB points) - and I came close to deciding to do just that - that would have also been my choice.
Nothing like going from no deaths in the longest period of time to the most deaths in the shortest period of time on a single character
TyrianFury
I got Legendary Survivor on my Ranger a while back, took me 102 hours by questing and capping a few elites during the double exp weekends. Ended up by finishing most of Cantha and Elona off. I am now trying to get it again on my monk.
I carried in playing after getting the title got another 40k exp before I finally died.
I really hate it when people bad mouth the title, just bitter people who lost the title, granted annoying but hey can be done!

I got mine by doing quests/missions/skill caps -much of it with h/h. On difficult missions, I teamed with trusted friends and alliance-mates. She finally died during a HM Hell's Precipice mission at around 1.5k experience. I know of one person (whose name I won't post) who is still surviving after reaching KoaBD. People can pooh-pooh the title as being lame, but in many cases the title was legitimately earned. Gratz to those who played their chars in the spirit of the game.
Kook~NBK~
I got mine using H/H and doing a combination of Missions, quests, and elite skill capping during a double XP weekend. Lots of easy to cap skills in Kourna and Vabbi! All the 3k XP quests in kaineng city area of factions came in handy, too.
To celebrate (and to end the stress), I thought I'd let my character give hand to hand combat a try on a devourer outside Ascalon City:
Didn't work!

Well I'm trying it the normal way without the FFF stuff and whatnot. I'm about halfway there and it isn't that bad. Just be careful and if you know you're gonna have to logout in scary spots do not go with a PUG, but with H/H as they have no feelings to hurt.

To the cynics:
Not everyone that got Legendary Survivor did it through FFF.
Not everyone that got Legendary Cartographer did it through Texmod.
Not everyone that got Legendary Vanquisher did it with Ursan Blessing.
If you assume the contrary, you are making a logically invalid statement. If you assume that a title for ALL people is worthless because SOME took a shortcut, then you are talking nonsense.
People get satisfaction from the effort and skill they put into something. If they choose to achieve it with minimal effort and skill then their satisfaction is minimal. I am happy with this equation. This is why I don't use FFF, Texmod or Ursan to accomplish titles. It's my personal choice, just as it's everybody else's.
You know, some people say "what a worthless and pointless title." Thank you for giving us this information, that the title is worthless and pointless TO YOU; which is why you haven't bothered to get it. But that doesn't make it worthless to others. So your views are rather irrelevant in this case.

To answer the OP (who asks a good question):
I started my Survivor just after the title was created. I didn't have an Ele anyway, wanted to make one, so I took it as an opportunity. I made a Tyrian character and started to work through the quests. My first approach was way too risky. I decided that I could solo everything for higher XP. :-) This got my character killed at Level 8 on a bridge somewhere in Ascalon. I thought I could take on a couple of grawls, but then 3 wandering gargoyles came to help, and then three devourers popped up and I was fighting 8 creatures. It would have been OK except the Gargoyles used Imagined Burden so I couldn't escape.
I was really annoyed by the stupidity of this death and weighed up re-making the character with the loss of the 30 hours I had already put in. In the end I wanted to go for the title so I re-made the character exactly as before.
This time I played through missions and quests in all three campaigns, with full parties of henchmen. When I got to Lion's Arch I went to Kaineng and bought full armour, and then went to Kamadan and got the basic heroes. I kitted everyone out to the maximum and continued with the quests on three continents. Once I got access to areas with elite bosses, I capped every single elite possible until I had got about 100 elites. About 30 of these I did on a special weekend where elite caps were worth 10,000xp. 95% of the time I did quests and missions with Heroes and Henchmen - some tricky missions I did with guildies (Vizunah Square and Thunderhead Keep). I had to map out once in Thunderhead to avoid a party wipe, but this was already after all was lost, and agreed with everyone in advance.
By the time my elite capping had got me successfully to the Legendary Survivor (3) title, my progress on the three campaigns was as follows:
Prophecies: Ember Light Camp
Factions: Arborstone
Nightfall: Venta Cemetary
In answer to your original question, I decided against an immediate suicide (it seemed somehow wrong) so I thought I would continue with the campaigns as normal, try out some new skills (I'd used the same familiar Fire build almost the whole time) and complete the Skill Hunter title (it was one title then). I thought I would go on as long as I could without dying, but not go to the same excessive avoidance of risk.
I did OK for a while without dying but finally got killed doing 'Duel of the Houses' in the Echovald Forest (Drazach Thicket). I felt a bit sick at the time, but then I was fine about it. Once your character has died, it's quite liberating as you can then play them with the freedom that you do your other characters. To date I have now finished the Skill Hunter titles on Tyria and Cantha and have half done the Elona one. I find this quite handy as I play some PvP and like having all the elites unlocked.
I hope this gives some non-sarcastic and non-negative people some insight into doing the title. I can't say that when I completed Legendary I was euphoric…. more like extremely relieved and tired. The closer you get to the 1.3 million XP the more tense you will feel; this title is like no other because it's possible to lose all your progress and end up with nothing. I really feel bad for all the people that have tried and failed, especially those that were really close.
Do I feel some achievement? Yes. Only because I know that for me it took skill and effort. Do I feel less achievement because some other people did this title by repetitive and low-risk farming? No, not at all. Do I use the title to 'show off' or expect to be praised because I have it? Not at all. I have plenty of other characters and titles and it rarely gets displayed.
I think a lot of people assume that others get this title to show off, and do it by mind-numbing farming grind. That's what makes them despise it so much. None of this applies to me. I did it for the challenge, and I enjoyed it, so save your hate for someone else.

Blame the Monks
My first death on my first survivor I sold to a guildmate for 40k, who catapulted me. On my second survivor, my first death was to a stance tank whammo in RA. >.< On my 3rd, my first death came trying to cap one last elite and I tried running there.

I wear the title proudly and actually start playing the game with that character. Then, I experience my first death in a quest or mission. Sometimes I even try to survive longer!

I got LS on an Assassin after two failed attempts. One was my mistake the other was lag kill. The third made it. All h/h all the time. came close to dying once with 32 health but that was my most nerve wracking 10secs in GW, EVER! I did it thru play, missions, quests, some skill capping, some solo killing. But the daggers never left his hands and I didn't HFFF for it. I wouldn't, I'm actually proud of the title.
To answer the question. After I got the title. I put on Koss, GorenEngine, and Jora. Then all the melee henchies I could, I think a Warrior and Derv, then ran out into Domain of Pain and Leroyed until we wiped. I wanted to destroy something beautiful.

When I tried to cross the Crystal Desert east from Augury Rock, I tried to advance through that gap full of Hydras, and got hit by around 6 meteors in a second. Balanced Stance and a 3 monk backline saved me there. I think I was down from 600 to under 50 health there.
Like you say, the most nerve-racking few seconds of GW in a couple of years.

Just go die right after you make the title and start enjoying the game with that character.

haha i died while chatting to ppl offering their congrats =P
I did stay on 1 death for quite some time tho, and had no idea that the meter kept going =S

My Paragon has received Legendary Survivor and is currently at 2.2mil xp with 0 deaths. She has finished Nightfall and Proph. and is currently at Tannaki Temple in Factions, all with H+Hs. She has Capped all of the Proph skills and all Nightfall skills and currently working on Factions skills. My playing style isn't "safe" just smart. Why Leeroy when I have a bow I can pull with? LOL.

I got the title doing normal missions and quests in Cantha with heroes/henchies. I finally finished up with (iirc) the first ever double exp weekend for capping elites.
It was incredibly challenging and I had more than a few close calls (one with only about 5hp left )...but I've never had so much fun at a videogame

Do it by playing the game, much more challenging! Won't die of boredom as easily...
Anyway, to answer the OP, on the 6 chars I have gotten it (I played the game normally with H&H, questing and doing missions, Masters in most cases, and elite skill capping) I continue to play safely. I don't like dieing too much, my Necro (pre-dating Survivor) has died more than enough times with 3300+

My spear assassin wanted to try and set an all-time record for most experience without dying so she kept going after reaching LS. If it wasn't for the GW:EN siege devourer boss Molotov Rocktail, she would still be undefeated right now. Note: title achieved by actually playing the game (mostly H/H) and skill capping during double exp weekends.
You're probably thinking "Spear assassin? Why not just use a paragon?". Can a paragon get 100%+ to land a critical hit? Didn't think so... but that's a different topic for another time.

Heroes became my new best friends in the game. I'm currently on a PvP Guild, so I became fond with heroes since my guildies don't enjoy PvE. What I ask is: Are any of you doing it through missions and quests with only PUG's? Now that seems more impossible.

mine got owned a while ago :'(
100% H/H, no farm, no people/other account help
did Legendary Cartographer/Legendary Skill Hunter/Protector/People Know Me with it
Got owned by lag when i started HM :'(
The fun part was doing my first time thru NF with it, GoM was almost the end for me
Also, been doing THK/RoF/Abaddon without Infuse^^ (bah it's NM, so it's easy)

Advice for people, the things that killed me in where:
lord jadoth - first death due to his spear atk.
vengeful aatxe mob - body blocked and had to die to get out.
shadow patrol+abyssal mob - KD locked and killed.

First thing I did on my Dervish after L3 was die in an experimental farm run. My Assassin died in AB. Once they've got the title I don't start playing recklessly, I just stop avoiding unnecessary risks.
Just need to know which quests and missions to be extra careful on and which to avoid. On my Dervish I stopped at Eternal Grove in Cantha, Ember Light Camp in Tyria and Dasha Vestibule in Elona. I consider those the general cut-off points where risk exceeds rewards. Just did all quests and missions up til that point and capped any elite skill I could get my hands on. Heroes and Hench did most of the work, though I had to get a friend to help me out with Avatar of Balthazar cap
In general I trust heroes and henchman more than human players. Not because they're bad but because they're only human - attention spans may slip, they may forget to mention there's someone at the door as they walk off, they may suddenly disconnect, etc etc (all of those happened once or twice, though fortunately not while survivoring). I think for those of us who do it the hardcore way, without any FFF, gimmick builds or farming, there's a portion of luck involved. It's hard to pay absolute attention for several days in a row. My Dervish got within about 20% of her health tackling the Mind Burn boss in the Undercity, a risk I would have seen coming had it not been 1am in the morning, and my Assassin almost died when I ran out of an outpost without heroes (fortunately this was outside some low-end town so it didn't hurt too badly).
As for remaking my characters if they die? No way lol, if I've just finished half of the three games with them, I won't re-roll them :P Heck my Dervish L3 was just a mule... I was just too lazy to re-roll her look

i kid you not, i was bored one day, and made a canthan necromancer, got her r1 survivor, then leeroyed a bunch of jade brotherhood. i love that. so much more fun than it sounds. i also added a well-put "LEEEEEROYYYYYYY" into alliance chat. and followed with a "JEEENKINNNSSSS" while lying on the ground dead, watching my henchies get raped.
i respect people who earn this title without simply getting a run to lutgardis and HFF-ing for weeks. dwarven boxing at least has SOME risk.
