Survivor Title - A fresh idea
TheRaven
Ok, before the flaming starts, Yes I know there are already 100,000,047 threads on here dealing with the survivor title, however I haven't seen this suggested before and I'm hoping it's an idea that both sides (those that like the title the way it is and those that want a "do over") can agree with.
The main flaw with the title is the way it was implemented. This was meant to be a "one-shot only" title. If you mess up, too bad too sad, deal with it. The problem was that pre-existing characters had no shot at the title at all and other folks like me lost the title before even realizing the title existed. This essentially isn't fair to the veterans of the game with older main characters that they've played and leveled since the beginning of the game.
Here's my proposal: Change the way the title works just slightly. Instead of survivor activating upon character creation, let the player choose when to start working on the title. Place an NPC someplace in the game that our characters must speak with to activate the title. This creates a Survivor title track with 0 experience earned towards the title. From that point on, the title works exactly as it does now. If you die before maxing the title track, it's lost forever. The NPC won't allow you a 2nd chance.
All existing characters without Legendary Survivor can speak with the NPC to try once more for the title. Any new characters created after this is implemented will not automatically gain the title track until speaking with him.
Some of you will say that this isn't fair, since starting on survivor is much easier at Level 20 than at level 1, but with so many "gimmicky" ways to gain survivor now, I don't think it makes much difference really.
The only remaining problem is the conflict with Legendary Defender of Ascalon. If this is implemented, A-net can either prevent LDOA title holders from talking to the NPC or create new Legendary Defender of Cantha and Legendary Defender of Elona titles that are unique to natives of those continents and comparable in difficulty to LDOA.
So, what are your thoughts? If you disagree with me that's fine, just please be polite enough to give a valid reason why you dislike the idea or think it wouldn't work.

ppl would just talk to the npc then go FFF with heros or goto gwen and do boxing Ldoa is to easy to get in cantha and istan would only take a day or to where in tyria it would take months.

I would be very greatfull for one shot at LS. all my chars accept for my derv and para where created before i realized this title existed. so my main title char has no way of ever gaining this title.

/notsigned there should be no discussion there was soo many friends and it has been said by many people that there shouldnt be any change, that makes you think this will be different?

Also I never said LDOA in Cantha and Istan would be the same as LDOA in pre. If comparable titles were introduced in these areas (which I doubt) the requirements should be equally as hard as the pre requirements.

I agree with the naysayers that survivor should be a one-shot only title. If you fail, you fail. All I'm asking is that EVERY character get a fair one-shot.

There are so many ways to get the title as it is
Farming
Exploits (at the start)
Others fighting for you
Mapping out the moment you look in trouble
Dont think that everyone who has it now (or even the majority in my experience) went and played the game normally.
Then new chars who just restart over and over till they get it.
For them its not a one shot title.
However for older chars people arent willing to delete they have 0 shots at the title.
We are only asking for 1.

A worthy compromise, thank you for putting it so simply.

Back in the late 40's early 50's every baby born was vaccinated for polio.
I was born much later than that, and, like all babies today, not vaccinated. Do I need to rant to the Gov't and demand they stick me with needles? Nope. Do I get along just fine without the vaccine? I sure do.
Just like my "Veteran" Charcters that were around before the this title was around get along just fine without it.

Right so because life isnt fair we shouldnt try to change anything for the better....
I could understand if you had a valid reason for why you didnt want it changed, but your trying to argue that because life isnt fair the game shouldnt be either....
Which kind of isnt the point, this is a game. Things can be changed a hell of a lot easier

I've heard this argument already in other posts and it was ignored then.
I like the idea its just not a priority for anet.

Another thread for people to voice their arguments on the first page since that's all that the simple-minded people read before posting.
/signed for changes to Survivor. Other people can certainly argue why this is good.
Of course, the way you make it sound is that it's confusing for the new player because they'll never see it until they reach level 5 or so, and therefore might think it doesn't exist. Allowing it to be seen at level 1 might just be enough for you.

I don't know about anybody else, but when I first learned of the survival track that's been a main priority when making a new character for me. Even if I fail, the guy's only lvl 15 or so, so I can just start over. I can only see lack of survival track being a bummer for those trying to get "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals". Otherwise I think it should be one-shot, or everybody is going to be running around with LS and it won't be any kind of status title. (if it is atm...?)

I think you will be hard pressed to find anyone that actually cares what someone else has.
Its there as a challenge and a reward for the player.
So it seems odd when a good portion of chars cant even attempt it!
