I mean, she has definitely been floating around other topics on here and has steered clear of this one. It's probably a good idea, some people need to cool down.

It's hard being the messenger. I don't really blame Gaile at all, but it sounds accusatory because I say, "Well, Gaile said this...." I know she just says what she's supposed to say, but people have been saying some really nasty and out-of-line things.

Actually you will note after that first night (and if you look at the time of the posts you will see a full night between them) Gaile changed to saying they were doing this because of the people who asked and because so many couldn't get it before. In fact, a post or two even goes back to implying ("we are doing this now because...") that they *did* in fact change their minds.

They dropped the whole "not exclusive" thing like a hot potato and I'm willing to bet that they wish the people on the forums would drop it also . I wonder if the complaints wouldn't be where they are at if that has been what they had said at the beginning. I know I, for one, wouldn't be that angry. Can't say I would be happy but I can at least somewhat understand changing ones mind over lieing to me. Add in that they *aren't* being that exact with the "any NCSoft purchase" and I seriously doubt they had that many eyes read it to that level of exactness.

I do generally guess they did mean it to be "exclusive" and later changed their minds - they just didn't handle the mind changing thing well at all. My feeling is the "we never said..." stuff was the actual lie, but then again that's not really any better in my opinion (in fact, maybe even worse since it also contains a high level of stupidity to think that would work well).

yeah i agree with you..there has been some people stating that wording had changed..i dont recall myself

i also read somewhere that on or around last day of the promotion on log in they said "hurry last chance to get BMP with online purchase"(not actual wording)..but you get the idea.

in future i am going to get screen shots i think..

LOL. Even the 'we are doing this now because' rubbish is totally disingenuous.

I'm sorry I must have imagined those dozens of threads during the promotion period. You know where everyone from Germany and Holland said they couldn't do it because credit cards were virtually non existant. And like the hundreds of posts from 'younger people' who didn't have CC and whose parents wouldn't let them use theirs.

I must also have imagined Gaile's replies with helpful nuggets of wisdom. Such as.... it is easy to get a prepaid card......or..... you must be able to borrow a CC.

Just like I (and thousands of others) imagined the strongly implied message, behind everything Anet said at the time, that the BMP was an exclusive reward for using the online store.

It is all lies and double talk, which is why I will never buy another of their products.

I have spent approx £180 in 18 months on my main account. Even with a conservative estimate of say 20,000 people voting with their wallets like me. That is 3.6 million pounds (or 7 million dollars) of lost sales.

Good business sense? Yeah right.

I'd like to elaborate on this.

The thing is, the whole handling of the promotion is only ambiguous in hindsight, because it needs to be ambiguous at this time in order to save face. It never was considered to be ambiguous by anyone (witness the thousands of protest posts) before they announced the plans to release the BMP for sale on the 28th.

Suppose they never had offered the BMP for sale, and never would. Would anyone have posted, a year from now about how the wording never implied it wouldn't be offered again in any other way?

Of course they did, this is the market strategy and the play on words they all use. If they had come out and outright said "Oh btw this will be available after the fact for $10" many people wouldn't have spent the extra $30 in the store for one thing an another group of many people wouldn't have bought the game from the store as well. It was a rue on words. It was the IMPLIED that got people to buy it from the store, not the WHOLE truth. They made it sound and just about everyone will agree that if you didn't buy it from the online store right then or within that timeframe you wouldn't get it or IMPLIED you wouldn't get it. They never would say the whole truth of the matter though. That's the deceit behind what is perceived as a lie. But, this is after the fact now, so, it's up to you as the players and the community how you're going to deal with it. I'm sure you are all familar with the little boy who cried wolf. Fool me once, my fault, fool me twice I'ma idiiot. But, for me they didn't even fool me once. I waited and bought the game from Amazon.com for less than $20 and I didn't fall for their play on words (I worked in the retail industry far too long to fall for that same tactic we used as well lol). I waited out the ruse and can now get the BMP for $10 and laugh at the rest that fell into their trap. Never ever never believe what a PR or ER or whatever R person tells you from a company. They are there to fool you into thinking or believing something that is not ENTIRELY true. Marketing is going to try to get you to buy something no matter what and there's nothing really illegal about playing on words or not telling the whole truth sad to say.

I think the point some of us (me at least) tried to make here is that, instead of Gaile coming here and say that WE WERE WRONG (she did say that) for (mis)understanding the promotion announcement the way we did, Anet should've, FOR ONCE, admit that there is a "change of plan". It won't make them look bad, as I'm SURE Gaile (of all people) would know how to spin it and make the company look all so "generous" and "selfless" and "caring" still. After all, she's good at that (at least she used to?)

As some of you already stated, there's nothing wrong with "change of plan" in business. They can spin it however they want without BLAMING US. Some of us may be upset still, but at least we'd feel that it's not ENTIRELY our own fault (even if it is). We might be more cautious in the future, but does telling us that the whole thing is ENTIRELY OUR OWN FAULT make anything better?

I don't think so. I know I won't feel like buying any more products from such company again, not because they did me wrong, but because I'm ashame of my own stupidity and afraid that I might make another mistake AGAIN. Is that what you want in business? I don't think I would want that.

But who am I kidding here. They're a company for pete's sake.

Those are only a mere words.
I guess that you'll buy gw2 and future expansion.
In any case i never see another company that treat us well as Anet.
Fast bug correction, no fees, everyweek events, REAL balance, etc....
If you don't buy guild wars 2 then......will be more space in the game

Actually, I think they underestimated the fans here. I think if they had said, "we will be releasing the BMP for sale later but now is your chance to get it first and get if for free by ordering GWEN or $30.00 through the online store" they would have made almost as much money. Guild Wars fans have shown they are not reluctant to spend money to support the game. But we become very reluctant when we feel we are being jerked around.

LOL. No as I said I have spent £180 on it. I am going to play it as much as possible to get my money's worth.

And in a way they have done me a favour, by making me stop and think how much money they have had off me.

I have spent that much on their 'no fees' business model and the next one will have even more bits and pieces which you have to buy.

I might as well play a subscription game. It will be better run and cost me less.

Indeed I will. When I have finished doing the things I want to do in this game, which I have already paid for.

I am a little busy with RL and getting through all sorts of books, lessons and Wii games with my son. So actual play won't happen that much. But I have 2 accounts which I will leave on 24/7 to get maximum usage out of their servers.

Then when the time comes to move on to another MMO I will get the best 1 out there. Unless it is made by Anet....but that seems highly unlikely.

And electricity bill on your side for this useless use of your computer (global warming FTL). The anger and revenge (your 2 accounts on their servers does not make a milligramme of difference I think) can be felt in all your posts. So I'd humbly advise you to leave this game asap, for your good too. And for your next MMO: remember it's just a game.

Bye.

Sorry, Fril, I shouldn't have done that. I only put that line in because I have seen your green tendencies mentioned so many times. I too try to be that way, for the sake of my 4 yr old.

I am not really after revenge. I still enjoy the game in its own right. I am only angry about their marketing lies and mistreatment of us. My answer to that is not to buy any further Anet product.

I don't need your advice, I am well aware that it is only a game. The game is not the problem.

Well that also means no NCSoft products then, as its NCSoft that deals with marketing and sales of the game and not ANet

I don't have much respect for NCSoft. Their business model seems to be "buy up any MMORPG we can, and see what sticks."

The advantage of owning all these MMORPGs, is you could charge one monthy fee ($30?) to play ANY Ncsoft game. But, no, they compete against themselves.

Oh, well, so far the ONLY NcSoft game I've liked was Guild Wars, which is free to play anyway.

Sony already do this with thier Station Card, however, NCSoft are currently looking into doing this aswell and have been for sometime, however it is slightly more difficult because not all the NCSoft covered games would work under the scheme, for instance, Dungeons Runners and Guild Wars wouldn't fall under it and I believe this sort of thing is currently holding things back

I've chatted to Martin Kerstein about this a few times, but unfortunately as its still on the drawing board there is nothing he could tell me or anyone else abot what he know so far

I checked with the local Gamestop. What looked to be a 12 year old pecked around on the computer for a sec and said there was a new guild wars game coming out on Feb 28. It was going to be $30.00. I ask for any info on the game he could give me and there was none. He also said he could not reserve it and everytime that happened that there was always a date setback on the release.

Now with that said. I do not want to start a flame war. Just wanting to know if anyone else has found any info on it. The info i got is in no way confermed nor do i have any way of knowing if it is true or not.

Looking at Official Press Release Dates the only NSoft releases currently on the release list are Aion (Q3 2008), Exteel (TBA) and Soccer Fury (TBA)

The only thing that stands out to me is the GW:Platinum edition (Proph and EOTN). I haven't seen it in any stores around my area so I wonder if that could be it, other than that, it COULD be the BMP retail box, but for $30, I hope not.

I got the BMP as a bonus with EotN, enjoyed it, and I'm happy it's now being offered to more players.

I'm completely at a loss as to how it's somehow unfair to those who like me got it for free with EotN that it's now available for sale?

Or did you guys only buy EotN because you wanted the BMP? For real?

for those not getting why people are a little peeved heres an example:

one of those really nice cars, gold plated engine blah blah blah only 100 ever made!

You run out and buy it, enjoy it and then they say lets make 1000000 more

while your happy others can have the fun you had, wheres that Uber feeling from it

All I really want is anet to say sorry, or at least acknowledge they sorta screwed alot of people

also you gotta remember those who bought online lost out on things (like a physical copy) and had all the hassle of buying online (hell for me)

If i knew they would release it later on, I know id have bouhgt a boxed game

1. This has been discussed to death

2. They never said it was limited or a one time only deal. Infact, most agree that it was fairly obvious they would later sell it in the store, hence why a lot of people, myself included decided to wait. Notice how none of the pre-order content has been released or obtainable via other methods?

If you're unable to tell the difference between a promotion and exclusive content, that's not really Anet's fault.

I don't think the BMP was ever touted as exclusive or limited time only. The promotion was "spend X dollars at the online store, between dates A and B, and get the BMP free". The "free" part was the promotion, not the BMP itself...

This really makes me mad, I paid $30 for a bonus mission pack (over priced in my opinion) and now it's out to buy for only $5. And I bought GWEN in the store, so I spent the money on character slots and bonus items I never really use. My heroes use them more than I do. So I want a refund.

well i bought GW:EN from EBGames...via Pre-Order..
so if i wanted BMP i purchased 3 char slots to qualify...some may be peeved that they thought it was a one time offer, so purchased whatever in online store to qualify.
i personally dont think they ever planned on selling this in online store at the start of the Exclusive and Limited Promotion(not BMP)...but since it was more successful then expected they chose to make it an offer for everyone at a reasonable price via Online Store.

i certainly dont regret my choice..and wish people would let it go...like those other dumb threads about "who will purchase BMP?"...i guess those that dont have it...sheesh

anyway anyone new to BMP enjoy..
