10 professions 10 different secondaries
Craywulf
I have 10 character slots and each one has different primary profession. All are PvE characters. I been trying to find the best secondary for each of my primaries, but I don't want the same secondaries on different primaries. Let me list my current professions:
N/Me (Locked)
E/Me
R/N
W/Me
A/R
Me/W
Mo/E
P/D
RT/? (I haven't picked a secondary yet)
D/? (Going to have an Assassin secondary)
As you can see from the list above I have multiple Mesmer secondaries. I want to change 2 of them to a different profession. I have a lot of playing time invested in my N/Me so I wanna keep it's secondary. The other two (E/Me and W/Me) I want to change them to a different profession.
So if you had 10 different primaries, what secondaries would you give them? Remember, no two characters should have the same secondary.
N/Me (Locked)
E/Me
R/N
W/Me
A/R
Me/W
Mo/E
P/D
RT/? (I haven't picked a secondary yet)
D/? (Going to have an Assassin secondary)

Good combinations for ranger:
R/Rt [skill=text]Splinter weapon[/skill] with [skill=text]Barrage[/skill]
R/Mo [skill=text]mending touch[/skill]
R/P Chucker (Beastmaster with adrenaline spear attacks)
R/W Thumper (Beastmaster with hammer knockdowns)
R/Me [skill=text]epidemic[/skill] (but you dont want Me so ignore)
Things I use for my Monk (mind you it's for pvp):
Mo/A [skill=text]Return[/skill], [skill=text]Dark Escape[/skill]
Mo/W [skill=text]Balanced Stance[/skill], [skill=text]Shield Bash[/skill]
Mo/E [skill=text]Glyph of Lesser Energy[/skill], [skill=text]Grasping Earth[/skill]
Dervish:
D/W [skill=text]wild blow[/skill] guaranteed unblockable crit on a scythe? FTW

I agree w/ Pyro....never know when you'll want to switch to something else for a specific mission.

The Monk is probably the most popular secondary, I just didn't want half my characters devoted to monking. I know what I'm saying isn't practical. Its just a personal preference.
So far I've decided to go with this:
N/RT
E/Me
R/N
W/Mo
A/R
Me/W
Mo/E
P/D
RT/P
D/A
I originally wanted to keep my Necro locked with Me because I've been so accustom to it. I think the RT/P is going to be weird, I'm not sure if its going to be a good idea. I think its really hard to find an idea secondary without sharing it with other characters.

Don't like the Rt/P? Swap the /P for the /Mo, so you can have Rt/Mo (seen a few around but don't know how good they are), and W/P gets you Godmode and that's fun to have.

I agree with those about the Warrior/Paragon. I'm not crazy about putting a monk secondary on a Ritualist.
I haven't played with Ritualist to know which is the most favorable secondary for them. I suppose I can check the Ritualist for the census of popular secondary.

R/N is the worst combination... ever. I can give you a good build for every other secondary for Ranger, but necro? You wanna touch or what?

Okay give me your 10 best. Remember no two characters should have the same secondary.

D/W A Warrior/ Ritualist is an interesting build. I noticed you have a N/Me and a P/D which is what I had in my original list. One rule I forgot to mention is you can't have two builds with the same professions, (N/Me and Me/N).
You almost have it. Its not easy because one the builds might end up getting the short end of the deal. I prefer a Necromancer/Mesmer over a Mesmer/Necromancer.

I don't really know how to help you with Mesmer cause I don't play it very often and if I do then it's PD mes, which doesn't really need a secondary.

I personally try to factor out Secondaries as much as possible. I try to master as much of the primary attribute as I can before I mix and match, but here is what I suggest

Here's my Contribution:
A - D (moebius blossom mystic regen or scythe sins)
D - E (obsidianfleshderv, conjure dervs, e-management)
E - Mo (classic, hybrid nuke/prots, or other builds)
Me - N (necrosis fast caster, sig of illusions summonmancer/bomber)
Mo - Me or E or A (sorry to break your format, but PvE monks need E-Management, or take Assassin secondary for PvP)
N - Me (per original post)
P - W (godmode - period. save yourselves adrenaline paragon)
R - Rt (Classic combo - for a reason, it works)
Rt - P (strange combo maybe, but a spirit strength spear chucker is just NASTY, and I'm running out of options)
W - A or R (assassin has some nice self-heals and ability to get the tank into the frontline quickly and some decent blocks, but i also like putting W/E W/Rt)
Strange restrictions. Seems like some kind of wierd obsession/compulsion or something.
*EDIT AFTER READING OP SUBSEQUENT POSTS:
Even stranger restrictions, but here is a list directly in response to your original request and with subsequent rules:
A - D (moebius blossom mystic regen or scythe sins)
D - E (obsidianfleshderv, conjure dervs, e-management)
E - A (nuke, some prots from A, shadowstep-nuke combos, master of farming)
Me - Rt (sig of illusions weapon support specialist/restoration mesmer, can run the full ritual lord with a mesmer primary - spirits not affected by Sig of Illusions, but weaopns & spells are, or just classic dom/insp/illusion mesmer with fast cast)
Mo - P (party support, shielded monk, great bonder with -2/ench shield possibilities and command/motivation shouts, 55 farmer possible but not optimized)
N - Me (per original post)
P - W (godmode - period. save yourselves adrenaline paragon)
R - N (toucher, or standard ranger with pet/bow and some necro ench ripping/condition removal)
Rt - Mo (uber farmer - read up on it)
W - R (iway, thumpers, tons of options)
This combination is the most cheese i could come up with given the restrictions you placed.
Lots of overpowered stuff there though, I'm proud of it.

Try things out, and pick what you like.
Why do they have to be all different secondaries? There are good reasons to have a E/Mo and a Mo/E

R/Rt (Splinter Barrage ownz)
Mo/E (Glyph Lesser, I think this ones obvious)
E/Me (Arcane echo met shower anyone?)
N/MO (MM w/ aegis or a 55 SS nec, yes please)
ME/N (Hexes/Shutdown is always a good thing)
P/W (Godmode is gud)
D/A (Teleport avatars r win)
A/D (Way of the master + scythes = rapage)
Rt/R (Reverse splinter barragers can be good. weapon Spell Beastmasters can be really fun if ran right)
The only one I'm not 100% sure is that good is the rit. Other than that the rest are pretty much fact.
What do I win btw?

What do I win btw? This doesn't follow the OPs criteria. Read thread, and GL try again. But good choices overall.

I know it doesn't. Its better overall, which shouldn't the point be to optimize your characters use, not stick to one secondary because youre accustom to it?

dunno if this is for PvP, casual PvE, farming or whatever so here is a general outline according to your rules:
W/Rit- can use Splinter Weapon on your Trip Chop/Hundred Blades/Earthshaker build or the VwK solo farmer
R/P- Spear Chucker or your favourite Ranger build with Remedy Signet replacing Mending Touch
E/R- Serpent's Quickness is awsome with slow recharge fire skills.
Mes/N- gives the most options for a Mesmer.
N/Mo- MM or whatever, and of course 55.
Mo/D- your regular Monk, great for the various Monk farming builds.
A/E- shock as an unconditional kd, with or without HotO, also great for farming with SF and Sliver.
Rit/Mes- great for farming and casual play.
P/W- SY+TNTF=GG
D/A- great runner, VoS/SF or whatever. also good as a regular Dervish with Shadow Refuge as your self heal
there you have it.
10 primaries with 10 different secondaries. great combos, mainly for PvE and farming but some are really great for PvP as well.

I completely understand where both of you are coming from. They mostly for PvE experience. I just didn't want 10 slots of Mo as secondaries because I want to learn the other professions. Now granted some secondaries work well with several primaries. I just didn't want a bunch cookie-cutter builds on my account.
I think you can learn a lot by switching up the builds that don't normally get paired up. Zling, I like your roster. W/RT sounds interesting but I'd be wary of the lack of energy Warroirs have to handle Ritualist skills. I plan on using some of your ideas. |
