Vanquishing in Elona

Just looking for some suggestions. Had a tough time with it until I saw Sab's 3 necro build. That works great though I still have the occasional wipe - but rarely now.

I usually bring mhenlo, kihm, herta, and odurra. My char is a SF ele. Any suggestions on the party make up? There are a couple maps with djinn bosses that can do some massive AOE damage to an unprepared party - also the HB boss. Any good way of shutting them down while maintaining sab's 3 necro build?

Against the SF eles -> Extinguish/heal party on midlines(you in this case), ward against harm(you again?), interrupt/shutdown, lod, .. and spread out your heros.

As for the HB boss, add an enchantment remover to the ss/mm to strip HB or/and add warmonger's weapon somewhere and bring devona and just outdamage him.

That's what I'd do anyways

If you have GWEN, bring Pain Inverter.

Also, not sure that SF works that well with the necro team, I find it works better when you have at least 2 SF eles working together. Maybe try to go with wards instead. Something like ward against harm might be good (like squishy said). Another approach is to go Fire/Earth and use Mind Blast to feed a couple of wards.

Slapping Daze somehow on HM bosses is some sweet action. Technobabble doesnt hit bosses but if you can hook up a +5 energy 20% enchant bow it might not be so crazy to go E/R and mangle BHA on to your bar. High enough energy storage might offset the lack of expertise.

I've been vanquishing elona with following heros: 1 sf ele with mark of rodgort, 1 they're on fire support paragon, 1 rt/n mm. I'm sf ele too myself and then just take 2 monk henchs and 2 ele henchs. Only real problem is those imba eles, kournan scribes etc.

Yeah, don't take just 1 SF ele. A nice alternative fire build is mark of rodgort + mind blast (with glowing gaze / liquid flame etc, same as SF). In melee heavy areas an air condition build is nice too (bsurge or bflash / shell shock / enervating charge (optional) / epidemic + pve skills.

Pain Inverter is a god send. I haven't vanquished there yet but casting PI on a ruby djinn or roaring ether will basically remove it from the fight in a few seconds. It also works very well against dervishes

I actually had a pretty easy time with the HB boss. Odurra interrupeted him a few times, I glyph sac'd a MS on him, and the minions swarmed him. He went down pretty quickly.

In Forum Highlands I choked against the SF boss. He wiped me. I did use pain inverter on him - works great on Ruby Djinn's in general - but I think he had too many AOE people in his party with him and kept wiping us.

I've tried flagging heroes - it works sometimes. Typically what I do is have my MM/Prot monk cast PS on me, then I have my guy aggro the group. They usually drop all their big AOE, high damage spikes on my guys and then I unflag the group and bring them in. Only problem is with SF which recharges a little too fast.

I could bring broadhead arrow, but then I would lose the 3 necro build. My ele's secondary is mesmer, so he certainly has a fair amount of interrupts and possible shutdowns. Any suggestions on what to go as? The only trouble is that with 2 monk henches, my ele has to be the big damage dealer for the group - if I take too many caster shutdown skills, it drops his effectiveness to dish out high AOE damage.

If you really want to bring a fire ele as yourself, go with something like Savannah's Heat or Mind Blast. The Triple heat bar (Savannah's, Tenai's and Searing) kills as well has an added benefit of making your enemies move and when they are moving they arent casting against ya. Also, a simple Ward Ele can help things as well. Or swap a skill or 2 out on one of SABs for an int or 2. Same can be said for your bar, you could even Glyph Sac a Met shower to help slow things down. And as said prior Pain Inverter is the fastest way to make the baddies pay for being able to cast

Yeah I really wouldnt bother putting BHA on heroes, they rarely use it well. My suggestion was for you to switch to E/R if possible, depending on what your using your mes secondary for it probably wouldnt gimp your damage too much. You could still load up a decent damage bar without a fire elite. As a side bonus it allows you to bring your own Frozen Soil whigh is useful against ethers and almost necessary to beat certain Undead groups later on.

heck I did it as a BHA ranger + 3 necros + Monk Monk + Herta and Odura I think. The extra damage isnt necessary if you're shutting down the casters. Itworked though the Djinn/Ether areas werent easy.

Did a couple things that worked well. I switched out inisdious parasite for spinal shivers on my curses necro hero. Then I equiped winter and was able to have the SF boss pretty much shutdown. No pain inverter neccesary since he couldn't get a spell off.

I fought another on a different map and used a different tact with same end result. This time, my ele had maelstorm and I lead in with that. Then we just rushed him and took him down before 10 seconds were up or he moved. Both ways worked though, the spinal shivers method was a little more controlled.

Any suggestions on Hidden City? That place is just chock full of groupings and setups that make Sabs build... yucky.

I replaced Masters with Gwen interrupting and using extinguish while Olias I also had set to extinguish for Hidden City HM. I had 1 green shortbow drop and 1 Elite Ele Tome drop on that area!

If you want to go fire ele remember to not use any of the fire spells that trigger the running AI. When they go running they will refresh their targets which can result in a whipe.

So, my advice is the following build:
-Mindblast
-Rodgort's invocation
-Mark of Rodgort
-Extinquish
-Aegis
-Glyph of lesser energy
-Fire attunement
-Sunspear res signet

Look at my thread on PvX wiki (triple necro vanquish build).
I used my ele to vanquish elona with a buddy monk. The difficult parts were kourna and Ahdashim area.

Kourna = Kournan scribes, what else can you say? If you insist on going as a fire ele go like that:
[skill]Fire attunement[/skill][skill]Mind Blast[/skill][skill]Rodgort's Invocation[/skill][skill]Liquid Flame[/skill][skill]Pain Inverter[/skill][skill]You Move Like a Dwarf[/skill][skill]Sunspear Rebirth Signet[/skill]

Get ur helper to use [skill]Ward Against Harm[/skill] and [skill]Maelstrom[/skill] at max water magic. This is what you should do: have the ward ready, then cast Maelstrom on the priest and 2 pain inverters on the scribes. Thats how you vanquish the stupid Kournans... That and sometimes Obsidian Tanks and full SF teams to kill them (just like in old DoA), im thinking of the overcrowded fortresses.

Ahdashim: Dont use Sab's there. Every person should take frigid armor and you should go with a standart HM team: SS, 3 SF's and Monks. Guess what the frigid armor is for

Happy vanquishing

My most recent hero setup has been:

Whispers (Jagged Bones MM + Curse support)
OABDUsx3ML1qwRFPUVLD2BBA
[skill]Jagged Bones[/skill][skill]Animate Bone Minions[/skill][skill]Animate Shambling Horror[/skill][skill]Blood of the Master[/skill][skill]Signet of Lost Souls[/skill][skill]Barbs[/skill][skill]Enfeebling Blood[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

Barbs works really well when all the minions concentrate on a single target, but it (and Enfeebling Blood) could be taken out for Rip Enchantment + Death Nova, Inspired Hex + Revealed Hex, Leech Signet + Power Leech, Prot Spirit + Aegis... you get the picture.

Margrid (Broadhead Epidemic)
OgUTMmLn5xV+YUNtSYjwxJIAAA
[skill]Broad Head Arrow[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][skill]Needling Shot[/skill][skill]Read the Wind[/skill][skill]Whirling Defense[/skill][skill]Epidemic[/skill][skill]Resurrection Signet[/skill]

After doing some vanquishing without it, I'm really starting to appreciate BHA again, especially when Epidemic spreads the Dazed condition to a whole mob of casters - whether imps and skales in Kryta or plants and djinn in Kourna. Not to mention that the weakness from Enfeebling Blood and the burning from Searing Flames get spread and reapplied too, if you're packing either.

Dunkoro (Hex/Condition Prot remover)
OwAS8YIPb66xdNgYTaJmRZC
[skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Aegis[/skill][skill]Divine Spirit[/skill][skill]Remove Hex[/skill][skill]Empathic Removal[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]

This character isn't strictly necessary in Elona, where two "healers" are available for most of the game, but can really make things easier in hex- and condition-heavy areas. If you're not staring one of those down, you can replace him with:

Olias (SS + curse support)
OAVDMjxHP5BhWZwOUV7BZABA
Use the interrupt slots to cover whatever the party's missing, just as with Whispers. If you have BHA, change them to Inspired hex removal (so Olias can toss them back) or other "niche" skills - Barbs, Rip Enchantment, Enfeebling Blood, Remove Hex, Dismiss Condition, and so on.

Morgahn (Axe tank, modified from Zinger's build to account for nerfs)
OQGkIxViJiqjSpdzVsw94K8JWeD
In areas where utility isn't as necessary as raw damage, the paragon tank can crank up the minions (with Go For the Eyes!), add burning (with Blazing Finale and Anthem of Flame), and provide damage reduction (They're on Fire!) for when the minions are down and the party gets hit. Considering that Anthem will trigger on Margrid's attacks, this option may be better when playing a SF ele.

Sousuke (SF)
OgNDoMz/M+C62YtphMoF4CZC
I may be biased here (see character name ), but the old standby still works, especially if you set up as one as well. By bringing the SF ele in the last hero slot, you're effectively shifting the bulk of your damage off the minions (Olias's Barbs or Morgahn's Go For the Eyes!) and onto the nuker, letting the minions tank, die, and get re-animated while you blast whatever is killing them.

For henchmen, the following four have been in my NF parties for pretty much every character that's made it through the campaign: Odurra [Illusion], Herta [Earth], Sologon [Motivation], Kihm [Healer]. The only time I willingly deviate from this henchman setup is when I take on Abaddon. In that case, I usually take Devona and Gerhaz - for added damage that doesn't suffer from Daze spam, and for Devona's party-wide speed boost - but that mission's a special case anyway.

I've vanquished basically the whole of NF (2 areas left) with Sab's necros, 2 warriors (hench), 2 monks (hench) and another warrior (Axe) (myself). This worked well in most areas except here and there. The thing that helped a lot was Pain Inverter (Asuran) and Save Yourselves (Luxon).

For area's with heavy AoE dmg like SF Djinn's, Spirit Rift bosses (probly the most devastating if you don't know he's packing it, insta party wipe, then you know ) I always bring along a BHA epidemic hero, I add in through dirt so the wars/dervish in the backline will be rendered fairly useless, and aply poison for some nice condition spreading/cover conditions for if they have removal.

Pain inverter is also an instakill on any heavy aoe boss (put it on the Drought, he was dead in 1 second after he cast Sandstorm in HM) and bringing along SY! REALLY helps if you can keep it up alot so you could bring a friend with either Godmode paragon or FGJ + D-slash war along who has it.

I hate Hidden City so much. I'm just going to vanquish everything else first.

After 3 tries with different builds I had about 190 monsters killed, only 1 Djinn boss left with everything cleared around it and most of the map cleared (although was around -30% DP with all) and then... I get killed by a group of those Necro/Dervish creatures RIGHT NEXT TO A REZ SHRINE... I was so "happy" to see my team respawn in the middle of a huge group with 100 minions... I managed to kill them with a few meteor showers but it was too late, died soon after =(.

If anyone wants to help me vanquish this area : Kurr Bloodfang IGN, right now using God-Mode W-P.

Yeah I managed to do it after that post... decided to get my heroes some runes/weapons so they had a few hundred more HP than before, helped them not die in 1 hit =p but cost me precious gold =(

Only 2 areas left, Joko's Domain and Sulfurous Waste... Some Paragon boss with Signet of Return + 2 Acolytes = mass ressurection... not sure how I will kill them honestly but will probably bring the SF nukers and suicide on the boss and healers then go work out the DP in worms...

Even worst since they use anti-shouts in desolation so I can't use God-Mode W/P =( I think hammer is the best choice for Warrior since you can get least knockdown the healers when they ressurect people.

Take Frozen Soil on one of your characters/heroes, and make sure it is kept up when you are not in a Wurm. Awakened have rubbish self healing, and with no res capabilities, they are no longer a threat. If you're worried about your party wiping when fighting them, have someone pack Lively was Naomi, as this can res through Frozen Soil.

Frozen Soil is nice and all but I get destroyed even with 3 healers, a paragon and a MM. Even worst when I can't ressurect. I tried SF nukers and didn't work either... only way I'm seeing is to kill them one at a time and use the corpses with a necro spell by going W/N... I will probably wipe a few times but nothing is working... that ONE group is seriously unfair, considering most other places in nightfall were pretty easy.

Wow, this area is making me want to uninstall Guild Wars. I'm just going to quit hard mode and stick with PvP for a few months I think. I don't think ANet was thinking of Hard Mode when they made these guys rez-frenzy.

About 3 groups left, but nope, impossible when they have a bunch of cavaliers and acolytes and I have heros with 60% DP.
