Me/N? A possible strong PVE combination?
Timotheus Amadeus
Reading people bashing the Mesmer PVE ability in general I started to love my mesmer more and more. Playing this class was the first one I really started to like especially in PVE. Prophecies was really easy to finish with the following skill combination:
M/E
Backfire, Empathy, Energy Surge, Energy Burn, Glyph Of Lesser Energy, Energy Tap and Ether Feast.
I also tried my mesmer as a nuker but I didn't really like that due to the high energy cost of fire magic spells. So I decided to change my secondary profession to Necromancer.
After seeing alot of N/Me out there in PVE, I thought of the possibility that N/Me could be a very strong PVE combination aswell. After beating the Norn Fighting Tournament couple of times I firstly discovered the true power of mesmers in PVP. That was my first experience. To be honest, I've only been playing this class for a small month now, and I already like it more than all the other classes I've played.
After finishing Prophecies within 3 days I would ask you guys to help me build a base for a Mesmer/Necromancer build for PVE. Since I'want to focus myself on completing EOTN and NF with my new character.
Could you guys give me a headstart on what skills to use for a base Me/N build. And also give me a reason to. This thread is not meant to be bashed in but just to gain some information on the possibilities of a Mesmer Necromancer combination.
So basically what I want is some help on the road of creating a good (nearly all round) basic PVE Mesmer / Necromancer build.
Thank you already for your time and help!

The N/Me you are seeing are more than likely running an [skill]Arcane echo[/skill] with [skill]spiteful spirit[/skill] or an energy return for other skills using the inspiration line. My first question to you is what campaigns do you own? Do you have factions / nightfall / EOTN ? (so many possibilities) PVE skills title track skills etc..

I own all campaigns including "Eye Of The Nort".

Get [skill]Necrosis[/skill] from Nightfall then. That's a good one for some more damage.

In PVE as I have suggested numerous times in other posts. It is different then the spiteful spirit builds you will see out there, but I like to be different
Wastrel’s Worry followed by Necrosis (Sort of a Bam then a Bam) add cry of pain and you got your self 3 good skills that work together. Very fast recharge on them as well
[skill]Wastrel's Worry[/skill] Necrosis and cry of pain [skill]Empathy[/skill] [skill]Drain enchantment[/skill] [skill]Energy drain[/skill] [skill]Ether Feast[/skill] [skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

I started my GW experience as a Mesmer/Necromancer. It's pretty fun, though that may be the nostalgia kicking in. I didn't realize the futility of being a Mesmer MM until the Maguuma Jungle...
Anyhow, like the other posters said, Arcane Echo + SS and Necrosis is pretty good. I sometimes use Arcane Echo on Necrosis for a decent, repeating spike.

I recommend buying skills and figuring out what you like. Experimentation is fun. If you can't afford skills, then grind reputation points in EOTN for free skills.
You can also generally mimic a lot of necromancer builds that are out there. You can find those on the wiki. (http://www.pvxwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page) Essentially you could be a Bip, SS/BR or a MM.
Note: Since you dont get an energy benefit creature deaths, you'll have to use your mesmer skills to setup some kind of decent energy management. Auspicious incantation (inspiration) rocks socks.
Useful Nec Skills I recommend
Insidious Parasite
Price of Failure
Necrosis
Spinal Shivers
Parasitic Bond
Vocal Minority
Spiteful Spirit
Blood Is Power
Feast of Corruption
Any enchantment removal skill. (I wouldn't worry about purchasing these if you own mesmer enchantment removal skills already.)
Well of... Any of the Well spells are great to use. Well of Blood, Well of Suffering, etc.
There are probably a lot more I'm forgetting about, but atleast this gives you a decent start.

Enfeebling Blood.
Shadow Of Fear.
Reckless Haste.
Barbs.
Mark Of Pain.
(With Necrosis and SS of course!)
That's a decent start.
More then decent actually. It's pretty much everything that makes a cursing necro a god (skill-wise of course ).

Wouldn't it be a waste of a mesmer to use this skills? Shouldn't they be more powerful on a full Necro. Or is it still a good choice to use them on a primary mesmer? From what level Sunspear title track becomes Necrosis a powerful skill?

Yeah, if you want to use this many necro skills, just roll a necro.
Oh, and go ahead and max your Sunspear rank for the best results. It's easy, so just take the time and do it.

Is there a good combination between these two. That's a build that I would like to create. Like, a mesmer / necro skill combination that powers eachothers profession skill results even more. Are there necro skills that make the mesmer skills more effective and visa versa.

Silhouette
Start with Soul Barbs (necro), then cast your mesmer hexes. Or, Fragility (mesmer), then add some conditions via the necro line.

Of course!
I mean - even if you are using mesmer skills - a primary necro is a better choice in PvE!
I was referring to the fact that those skills are REALLY good. So if you want to use something from the necro line - I'd pick some skills from that list first.
(Especially stuff like Enfeebling, Reckless or Shadow! They just destroy PvE!)

(Especially stuff like Enfeebling, Reckless or Shadow! They just destroy PvE!) In what combination of Mesmer attribute skills would you suggest to use these necromancer skills? With the regular Backfire, Empathy and Energy Surge line (domination magic)? Or more like using them with health degeneration skills from the Illusion Magic attribute?

Health degen combos work best with Illusion magic. Since they're more hexes, they work well together.

So is there one build in general I should take a look add? Or is there a small combination I could use as a base for a build I could enhance for different areas and situations?
Kattar
Hmm...I can't help you here with specific builds, but here's a list of Necro degen skills: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Health_degeneration.
Hope that helps some.

That is pretty /fail in PvE.

I think it's PvP build lol! But isn't Shrinking Armor is a better choice than Arcane Conundrum?

No mention of signet of corruption? Thats elite level energy management plus decent damage with no attribute specs and it lets you leave your inspiration magic at home.

When using rangers why not [wiki]Shrinking Armor[/wiki]? Its good for boosting their damage against high lvl mobs.

Me/N
Mesmer:
- Domination: This atribute will shutdown/dmg a single target to be the most efficient (no matter if it's a caster/melee.) Hence Use stuffs like [skill]Backfire[/skill] [skill]Blackout[/skill] [skill]Power Block[/skill] [skill]Psychic Distraction[/skill] [skill]Diversion[/skill] to kill caster BOSSES. It's perfect if you want to capture Elites.
- Illusion: This atribute is mostly for PvP. In PvE you can use [skill]Illusion of Weakness[/skill] [skill]Illusion of Haste[/skill] to protect you.
Tips: You can use [skill]Signet of Illusion[/skill] and be a minion master for faster cast making minions (Minions you create have the same lv as the nec.)
- Inspiration: This is for PvP only I belive unless you want some E-manage in PvE as well.
- Fast Cast: About no use in PvE unless you make a build for specific farm/solo.
Necro:
- Soul Reaping: No need to talk
- Curse: You can run a fast cast curse but it's really have no point running it in PvE:
- Death: Read Illusion part tips.
- Blood: Bring [skill]Blood Ritual[/skill] [skill]Well of Blood[/skill] isn't a bad idea.
