Some threads are a strange phenomenon to me, I can't always understand why they originate as the answer to them would be obvious.

To my mind anyone that spends a great amount of time doing somthing and then thinks they wasted time doign it, is unusual.

Personally i don;t regret anything i take time doing, as I would not be doing it if i didn't enjoy it.

The only people I would imagine regretting playing GW would be those that bought the game played it for a few days or so and decided they hated the game. They may end up regretting buying it and spendign time playing it.

Those of us racking up over a thousand hours on it shoudl be enjoying it. if not then all i can say is, What kind of strange person are you to torture yourself doing something for so long you dont enjoy?

I have mixed feelings about it. I met some great people and had a lot of fun. In retrospect though I'd rather have spent the time doing something else. Had great times though.

Some people I imagine would regret it. I mean face it. The GW of April 05' is NOT the same GW we have today. Its almost a different game totally.

I don't regret my 3k hours either. I despise TV. I'd rather do something productive with my brain. GW or games in general, keep my brain busy and keeps me out of trouble. So, if I wasn't play GW, I'd be playing something else.. but hmmm 31mo of GW = $200 vs. WoW (or most other mmos) for 31mo = $515.00 I'll take GW thx. PS2 games I was buying once or twice a month. GW FTW!!!

To me the community as a whole wasn't too bad, after you eked out the idiots, the game play kept me indulged for 7000+ hours so I would say that I did enjoy my time here and also the friends I met along the way.
I deffinately got my money's worth out of it and then some so hence why I aren't disappointed at being one of the 117 (but thats an entirely different section on this forum).
Friends I met along the way..
Lil Kern
Xxx Crunk Xxx
Loves Fire
Star Prism
Is Truth Beauty
Dark Purity
Killer O K E Y
Deano Wisewoman
Just to name a few, sorry I don't have a friends list anymore so thats a few off the top of my head and I do apologize if I missed anyone.
But in all honesty I think I'm going to miss my friends more than the game itself and I wish all my friends all the best for future GW endeavors.

I don't understand this sort of thinking. There are few/no jobs that you can work at during the late night or 1-2 hours in a day which is what I assume is when most people are playing GW. Maybe if those 3000 hours came between 9-5 Monday through Friday you'd make $42000 but that's likely not the case. If someone does play GW during those hours then maybe they'd regret it.

Largely my 2700 have been worth it. Sure there are a few times I could have been doing something more productive but a lot of that time would have been spent on some other form of entertainment anyway and GW is a lot cheaper.

Enjoyed 2/3 of the time i spent on it i think. I agree that it has changed a lot since the early days, and overtime i've grown tired of it. Retiring my account this week, and going to move onto another game with a fee. (not WoW)

I no longer have a gw account, so Since I am so adicted/obsessed, I have to sit on this forum for the 12 hrs a day I used to spend on guild wars. I HOPE YOUR ALL HAPPY!

BTW, it was definately worth it while I had it. I played it when I could, and I loved the gameplay.

Esspecially early on in the game, before everyone was 2 man and soloing everything, when you had to find a real group instead of just loading 6 heroes. I think something was lost, and something gained with heroes, but I certainly loved this game,

And I think the time was worth it.

i'm 29 and peopl ecall me old. Phoo. I guess the gaming ages are mostly like 10-21 and 50+ because the middle age group has familys, jobs, etc taking up every spar emoment, and wives like mine that scream at them if they spend more than 2 hrs a day on the pc.

Some of you say that you regret. Fair enough. But most of you don't take into consideration how much time you spent on wiki, researching skills, on Guru, flaming and trolling ( ), and who knows where else...Not many games can get you involved so much, I think...We are still here, wether we still love this game or not. But yeah, sometimes I do ask myself how would my life look with those 3k+ hours spent somewhere else :S

It was worth it for what I paid for everything, just a bit over $110 for all of the chapters an expansion. But, it just seems after Prophecies they sort of halfA$$ed everything and there wasn't as much content as Prophecies. Guess that's why I'm glad I only paid $25 for Nightfall and Factions and only $20 for GWEN. Factions and Nightfall were over so fast compared to Prophecies and they just seemed easier as well except maybe Torment in NF that was a bit tougher than expected, but, I still breezed through it pretty quickly. I only had to play two missions over more than once. The Drought one cause I went with idiot PUGS the first two times (beat it with my heroes and henchies first time) and the one with Sciro and that other thingy boss near the very end. I had to play that one three times as well. I stormed through Factions like sliced butter and only had to play one mission twice and that was the very first one right out of Kainang where you had to keep Frodo and Tojo alive.

When I go back to play now there's just nothing to really do but repetitive stuff getting gold just to be able to buy vanity armor which is rediculous since it has no power value. I never was into vanity, I've always been into powerful items. Playing around with builds for pve is still fun, but, once you've mastered the synergy of yourself and your 3 heroes there's no use in really changing them anymore. PVP in FA and RA and AB is about the only thing that keeps me coming back anymore. I didn't even play in the wintersday festival this year and they hand out some pretty good items during that like the candy can weapons/shields and the candy cane munchables, green, pepperment and rainbow. I just wasn't interested this year. Last year I farmed like 1800 items to turn in for candy canes. This year I played around with it the first day and then nothing after that. GW is just getting boring now, but, I got my moneys worth.

Where is else can you have as much fun for the money spent. I figure the amount spent versus time I have played equals out to around 8 cents per hour. I I have no regrets because I love the game and most of the people I have met guild mates or just friends list people.

It's still worth it. I am able to keep in touch with lifelong friends who have moved to other states, I can vent my frustration after a long day of work, and it was there after an accident left me out of work for months. Was worth it then, and is absolutely still worth it today.

Well I have been sort of asking myself that same question lately. I have 6000+ hrs since May 2005. Prior to GW the only MMO I played was Sims on Line, and I got bored of that real quick. Aside from a couple of PS2 games here and there, I had never been a gamer.

Then GW came, and it all sort of went downhill

I am in my 40's, work full time as a teacher, and this is a nice way to relax when I get home ( and in those occasions when I got *sick* and took the day off 'cause there was some special event )

I hate the thought of adding to those hours the amount of time spent here and in wiki, it's scary I guess.

I have made good friends, had a blast playing, and it was extremely cheap. It may have stopped me from doing something better, here and there, but most of the time, it didn't interfere with anything.

My real life partner plays as well, Commander Ryker, and so it's a great way for both of us to have a good time with our friends.

I don't regret any of it. I sometimes wonder... what would I have done with all that time had I not been playing GW? I don't know, and frankly, it doesn't matter to me. I enjoyed every second of it.

I'm growing a bit bored I admit, so what the future holds, I don't know.

I'm in a similar boat my former alliance mate.

Anyway, I think video games are becoming more and more socially acceptable as a generation who has grown up with games and gaming culture becomes adults. In 15-20 years, it will be pretty common for a 40 year old guy to play video games as a hobby. Really... I mean is playing a video game for 1-2 hours a day any worse waste of time then watching TV? Plenty of working adults do that already.

I agree but I think you have the 15-20 years thing wrong. I will be 60 this year and have been playing video games since Pong. My guild has one other person in their 50's and a 40 something. Playing video games as opposed to watching television, keeps your brain active and reflexes quick. I call that a win/win for me.

That's a lot of time blown on something, just imagine what could you do with it if you invested it into something diffrent. But you didn't, you played this game. And, was it worth it? If you ask me, I think it was.
But what is your opinion on your own example? Did you enjoy this game enough to justify all that time spent ingame and on Guru? Do you regret it, or would you do it all over again?
Well like any other leisure activity...
"Do you regret spending all those weekends getting pissed in pubs?"
"Do you regret all that mountain/hill walking you did in every piece of spare time you have?"

...

Do I regret playing 3.5k+ hours on GW? Not at all. As an entertainment device it's amazing value for money. I've spend ~£80 on all 3 games + the expansion and it's been the only game I've wanted to buy in the last 18 months (since I started playing).

It made me happy to play it, and it'll make me happy to play GW:2, providing they don't ruin it, but I trust ANet on that one for now, I just don't trust their time keeping . Perhaps I'll not have the same amount of time to spend on GW:2 as I have on GW, but I'm looking forward to it already.

If you spend time thinking about the amount of time you spent on this game, and how that could have been spent, sure, you could have exercised more, socialised more, but is that what you wanted at the time? Well I didn't...I just wanted to burninate things, and smash face...y'know...the sort of things you get locked up for in real life. That and afaik I can't cast Rodgort's Invocation irl...

The way I look at is how would I have spent my spare time?
How would I have found a release for the everyday tension that builds up?
How much money would I have spent on other forms of recreation?

The answer to them is that GW has been an excelent investment for me.

Would I have been better off spending 4K hours in a gym? Would I have spent the money needed for that and would I have stuck with it or quit?

I've played for ~3k hours in 17 months.

I regret it. I've been so into this game that my school has been lacking and I barely made it into the next class. (is that even the correct word?)

I haven't been able to play GW for a few weeks now, and I've been enjoying it, really. It gives me something else to do, and I was getting bored of it anyway.

Even though I've made a couple of friends, I would not do it all over again.

Call me an idiot, I know I am
