In an attempt to shut up and learn I was talking with Zen in IRC the other week and worked out the following build to start with for PvP.
12+1+1 Water
12+1 ES
Freezing Gust
Frozen Burst
Shatterstone
Deep Freeze
Glowing Ice
GoLE
Water Attunement
Res Sig
I'm hoping it isn't too bad as is, but I'm also wondering if I can't swap out deep freeze for something else without hurting myself. Is that a good beginner's build for someone who wants to learn the position?
How's this for a hydromancer build?
Winterclaw
Dr Strangelove
From my limited experience as a snare guy in GvG:
You don't really have the bar space to fill up with all snares and DD's. Every time I've run it, we've needed some extra utility on the midline, most commonly aegis, blurred vision, or glyph sac/rez chant.
With that bar, I'd probably try to drop a couple of skills for more utility. Deep freeze certainly stands out, since you already have frozen burst for an AoE snare, and it's very expensive. If you drop that, it may be possible to get by without glowing ice as well, if you're not spam casting.
Lastly, I'd say an icy shackles guy is probably a bit easier to start with. It's significantly easier to manage, albeit with less spiking ability.
