How to locate/determine the best weapons?

Kind of a noob questions I know (I've only been playing less than 2 months), especially since I've finished all the campaigns and finishing Factions now.

Basically I'm wondering which campaign has the 'best' weapons. Are the GWEN end game weapons best? Modded collector's crafted weapons best? Drops?

I'm starting to move into PvP and want to gear up my characters. So I'm looking for a good fire nuker staff. By checking the Wiki, I can see some collector items weapons that I can mod into copying greens. Are the GWEN collectors the 'best' or are the stats for the endgame collector weapons equal for all campaigns?

Again, with so many campaigns and collectors, I'm looking for some help focusing on one campaign.

The best weapons for you will fit your builds. To me, greens aren't the way to go, because you can't change their mods, and they're not always cheap. Sell them if they don't fit what you're doing.

I'm no expert on what mods should go with what builds, but I'm sure others here can give you a good insight on what your weapons should have if you could give us a general kind of build you're looking for.

Thanks. I'm just starting PvP, so I'm going with a simple Mind Blast Nuker from PvWiki. I assume a 20/20 Fire Staff would be best.

Again, I'm just not sure where I should be looking for these items or if one type of collector (like in EOTN) is better. I initially thought 'green was god', but from reviewing stats, it looks like a modded blue is just as good.

I would make a pvp-only character first, if you are not sure which equipment fits your play style. Having the essential unlocks to build could be a problem though if you don't have enough faction.

A standard set for casters is usually:

1. Casting set ~ 40/40 set for your main attribute eg. fire
(one hand & off hand with both 20% recharge and casting time mods)

2. Defensive set ~ melee weapon or spear and shield(s)
(weapon +30 HP and +5 energy [10% recharge or casting for ele's] & shield +30 HP and +10 armor vs x-type of damage [piercing, blunt, fire, lightning etc.]

3. High Energy set
(one hand and off hand with +15e - 1 e-regen and +30 HP on the offhand)

4. Your Choice set

Make sure you swap those sets according to circumstance. You can open a quick change menu by activating all four weapon sets in your inventory under the weapon sets button.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. That does help. I made a PvP only Elem and have all skills from the unlock packs (I know, i'm lazy)

Can I get a 40/40 fire set from Collectors only or do I need to start farming FOW, et al?

agreeing with timebandit here, have some like was combo mostly not using twohanded weapons on a caster only in very specific builds, you a lot more flexible with the onehanded / offhand combo

oh and don't go for the prophecies collector wands they only have one mod 20/0. better go to the canthan weaponsmith in vasburg or its luxon counterpart and craft one for 5k with 20/20 stats

I really am a PvP noob. I just realized I can create my own PvP weapons using the (J) screen. These appear to be as good as the Collector Weapons, no?
