What next for Guild Wars 1
Queen of the Sand
Not sure if there is another post regarding Guild Wars 1 when Guild Wars 2 arrives later this year I have searched but couldnt see anything.
Has there been any talk of Guild Wars 1 going open Source and private servers being alowed to be rented ect once Guild Wars 2 Arrives.
They seem to be cashing in on Guild Wars 1 now selling off skill packs and the bonus mission pack that was only supposed to be for shop users that had qualified ect
Does anyone think they may open the GW1 servers so they can make a little more money on the game and then concentrate on Guild Wars 2.

You're assuming GW2 will be out this year, chances are very good it will be Q1 2009 release.

GW2 this year? I think not
BETA testing..maybe

i still hope they'll release it this summer..
aTT!kus
beta test probably mid-late 2008 and then we'll most likely see gw2 in 2009

I think it will go stale, anet wont add any new content until guild wars 2 so its inevitable.
Guild Wars 2 will probably late 2009 if its done right, MMO's take much longer than other games generally unless you valve and supereme perfectionists but then again Half Life 2 was worth the wait. I hope Guild Wars 2 turns out to be great as well and if they put their minds into mantainance after release then it could be great or history repeating itself.

Starcraft 2's sequel was only announced last year (after almost 9 years later)
What happened to the original games while these games havent had sequels?

It would be nice to have an update like the one they did for prophecies with Sorrow's Furnance.
Aerian_Skybane
Doubtful. Open source wouldn't do jack unless you could do it offline. Playing offline could be interesting, but they would probably have to do too much work to retool a lot of the system in order to do it, but then again I don't specifically know.
I doubt they would risk the integrity of the server even after GW2 comes out, risking Diablo 1 style crap.

Must play TF2 more.

It has already been stated that the GW 1 servers will remain open as long as people continue to play it. While the game may be "stale" to people who have been playing for 2+ years, it will still be new to those who just bought it even when GW2 comes out next year. They are doing beta testing this year, so you can stop dreaming about a summer release now.

Honestly...TF2 is more MMO than Guild Wars....16 vs 16 maps rock ;p Plus you develop your stats, showing your skill and experience through real gameplay. ^_~

Nothing major will happen with GW1. Most of us will just keep on playing until GW2 gets here. Which really is'nt that far away as some might think. Beta is the 2nd half of 2008 which is anywhere from July on. Unless something goes drastically wrong safe bet is GW2 out in Q1 of 2009.

Nobody will be playing GW1 by the time GW2 is released so why would they pay to maintain the servers when nobody is playing.
But it would be a crying shame to close the servers and make GW1 obserlete and non playable. With no servers to play nobody would buy GW1
A developers pack released and the chance to login to private servers to continue playing would be an obvious choice and they will still be able to continue to sell GW1 to any new people who want to try.

I would say 2010 and as Anet has said if there is enough interest in GW1 they will put out an add on.I will doubt they will ever open source this ever.
Bryant Again
Haven't heard much about open source for GW. I'd imagine not.
I'd agree with the 32-player servers if it weren't that every goddam one of them was instant-respawn...UNGH! It's killin' meh.
Oh and add me, Lyra! Bryant Baby or dristin on Steam! Or give me yours since people have problems with mine, apparently.

Probably nothing new in GW1..
About GW2.. I predict that GW2 will be released in 2010.. 2009 seems to be too early to me.

As long as they keep feeding me with expansion packs, I will be fine for a long time..

I think we're waiting a couple years for GW2, to be honest. We might see a beta this year, but I doubt it.
As for GW, well, some continued balances such as we saw today, with a couple teeny tiny things thrown in (hero shortcuts, district change). No new content per se.
