Newbie question about Elites
Laraja
My character is a lvl 17 Ele/me and in Lions Arch I received my first Signet of Capture. Problem is, I have no clue who and where to use it.
I did read Guru and Guild Wiki, and I know that I stand over a defeated boss that has my skillset and basically capture his/her/its elite skill and the signet is replaced by that skill, but which bosses am I looking for? I know what and who bosses are but which ones? Are they specific ones during specific missions or quests? Do I just go blindly looking for them? Does a certain boss, say Meany McRodgort, give Rodgorts Invocation or is it random which boss gives which?
Sorry for the stupid questions, but there's actually very little info on this other than find boss, use signet on boss.

It's defined which boss gives which skills, as on the Wiki page for each boss. Generally though, I'd hang on to the two free cap sigs until I can get an Elite skill, as the normal non-elites are easily bought.
If you want a skill, hunt the boss down. Use the Wiki to find out their spawning points, and if they're a Prophecies boss, literally hunt them. They spawn randomly in a set of pre-determined areas within a map. It's any boss, whether in mission or not.
Good luck.

Bosses with elite skills don't start popping up till later, the first are in the crystal desert missions with more in the later areas. You can capture normal skills, but its really a waste. The best way to get normal skills earlier is to go mess around in pvp till you get 1k balthazar faction, unlock the skill and then you can buy it from any trainer in the game. That's probably the best way to get Rodgort's Invocation since otherwise you would have to wait till nearly the end of the game.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Elite_Skill
And it will tell you all of the elite skills of each profession and if you click on an elite it will tell you which bosses have it.
Getting elite is sometimes easy or sometimes hard, but don't forget that your heroes would be a lot better off with elites and so you can change your secondary profession to theirs and capture elites for them.
Keep in mind that you can only have one elite on a skill bar at any time.

Perfect adviced from all of you. This is exactly the stuff I needed to know. And I'll check specific boss pages on Wiki. I thought I was missing something but it just looks like I need to be farther along in the game.

Also a very handy to find out where Elites are located is MappingOut, you can download it at www.mappingout.com, it just points you out to the location of the desired elite. It's just a standalone program with maps. It doesn't affect your GW gameplay.

Basically a cap sig lets you learn any skill a boss of the same profession of you has. Elites are the better choice for many reasons such as (until tomes where released) being the only way to get an elite.
prophecies itself doesnt have the best elites for ele but a few are ok.

If you have Factions, NF, or EotN, these site will help you.
Factions
Nightfall
Eye of the North
In fact, SoC can be used on boss who have no elite too, but that will be a waste of the Signet.

It tells you every single spawn point of every boss, and tells you the skills they have, and what they do. A better option would be to download Mapping Out, a GW help program that was written by some fellow Gw Guru members, and is very helpful.Tells you where just about everything in the whole game is.
If you need some help in game, let me know.

Yah, Searer is right, if you have nf, factions, or eotn, it will be a lot easier for you to get elites, but if you don't have any, then gl.

I remember when I capped Mind Blast with Mind Burn on my bar. That was really fun...

Something else I would like to mention regarding capturing non-elites....normally this is ill-advised as you can almost always buy a non-elite from a trainer easier or get it as a quest reward which would cost you only the time to complete quest. However there are some non-elites which are very good or at least desirable but only attainable from a trainer much later in game....but may be captured a lot sooner if you know which boss uses it.
Several Dervish skills can be capped in Kourna via the avatar bosses but only bought in the Mouth of Torment. hurdlebeast
oh, forgot to mention the exp gain. if you capture and elite (not a normal skill) you gain 250 xp per level. so if you are level 10 and capture and elite, you gain 2,500 exp. if you are lvl 20, you get 5000. that's per each elite, too, so you can do that multiple times.

PvP unlock buy from almost any trainer in NF problem solved
hurdlebeast
problem with that is that eventually the skill costs 1k anyways...so you either have to do a couple of rounds of pvp, or you can buy signet of cap and cap it in PvE. either way works, but me personally, I hate ABing just for a skill.

lol have you ever heard of zaishan farming?
