2d and 3d images
Aratak The Blind
Hi everyone. I have a problem with the graphic engine. When object are far they are replace with 2d images. My problem is when I get closer, they only revert back to 3d when I'm really close to them. Ok I don't have to be next to the tree or the door but it's to close for my taste. Even with the image quality slider to max and a good frames rates it still do this. I have some image to give you an idea of the distance and what it does. You can see the first image is a 2d stand in, the second is the horrible effect that happen when they switch and the last one is the 3d image.

Try using the use best texture filtering option or force 16x anisotropic through your video card driver if it supports it and it cna handle GW +16x anisotropic.

Wow, that is completely random, I was just about to post about this issue today. I have a brand new computer and my old crappy laptop did do it this bad compared to this computer. Everything looks great, but I figured my "drawing" distance would be much improved, instead, I can look further, but at the cost of everything being drawn.
I am going to try forcing 16x through the Ntune panel when I get home. Thanks!

Yup, I get the same - with a pair of 8800GTXs.
I suspect nVidia's Vista drivers - had no problem at all on XP. Mind you, I always suspect nVidia's drivers for everything - I'm frequently right

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one. The Anet tech said it not likely them because its only happen to like 1 quarter of 1 percent. Well I try the anisotropic filter and didn't help since it's only help mipmapping if i remember correctly. Here it is really replacing the image with a 2d image.

Well to aid in the conversation, I am currently using XP Pro (not vista ). I am using a GTS 8800 320. No matter my graphics settings in GW (even at lowest, I tried everything in-game), it still happens. Doesn't happen on my exceedingly crapy laptop (not as obviously at least).
I am on the 169.21 Drivers, but considering moving back to 163 to see if AF doesn't fix the problem.

Switching drivers didn't do anything, neither did forcing 16x AF into the game. What is it?

Happens to me too on an 8600GT. So many new problems with this, textures ripping like hell (Only in window mode) and etc. But my 6600LE (lol) Ran guild wars perfectly, even with alright graphics, at the cost of all the fps (Got about 10-20 at any time) So yeah.. I'm wondering what the hell is up too.

It definitely has nothing to do with your video cards. I'm sure it's just a perk of the GW engine.
I Dont Do Coke
^Yup, it's not your issue. It's GW's engine that has brought itself to its limits, not your video card.
Brianna
Yeah, but that doesn't really explain new video cards getting reversed graphic effects, at most they should just be at the top limit and stay there, not go back. (If I understand you correctly.)
I Dont Do Coke
Yeah you're right. I missed the 3rd screenshot, and yeah that really is awkward. This seemed to have happened on my old notebook with a Go 7900 GS, which isn't supported.
Aratak The Blind
I have try the omega driver, a clean install of the nvidia driver and reinstalling Guild Wars, now Im all out of idea.

Reinstall GW won't help, don't do it. This never happen to me though, I'm running 7950 gt sli on xp. I also run GW on my mac using bootcamp and never run into this.
But funny enough I have this flashing background sometime, very noticeable around Keinerg city. Nothing I do will get rid of it as well.

Its absolutely terrible in the Charr Homelands area with all the trees everywhere .
Haven't tested on old laptop, but I am feeling, along with the AA texture mixups, it is GWs fault.

Well support want to know if I can check different video card in my machine. I tried a 7600gt alone and in SLi. Maybe if more people send ticket they will look into it?
Aratak The Blind
Just to check if anyone found a way to correct this. Support says they can't reproduce this problem but I seen it with 2 very different systems. I even ask them if it is just the engine that work like that like some of you suggested but they said no. They ran out of pre package solution ( you know the reinstall driver, erase .dat and rollback to old driver) and began to make me do it all over again.

I am convinced it is something to do with a conflict between NVIDIA (or ATI) settings and the game settings. I had a similar problem in the Witcher, and I fixed it. I will check when I get home, currently at work. Will see if it works. Best place to test this is outside of Doomlore Shrine and looking at the trees.
EDIT: I also wanted to add it is def 100% related to texture filtering. Guild Wars merely accepts (with USE BEST TEXTURE FILTERING) the driver settings (when I tested), so it most defnitely has something to do with texture settings. Will play around with it to find out, but I am sure its that.
