Eye of the North not a main town?
Onyx Blindbow
OK this is one of the things I didn't get about the recent expansion
It is called Guildwars: Eye of the North, yet the "eye of the north" is merely an outpost and not a main town???
I think it's just a little silly IMO

They changed it after release. Eye of the North used to be a town, but was changed to an outpost.

Is there a main town called "Factions"
Is there a main town called "Nightfall"
Is there a main town called "Prophecies"
Yes it is weird.

There is no location by any of those names either, though.
The EotN name seems to imply that ... the eye of the north is important.

I think they changed it cause the outpost is in Norn lands, which would give them 2 capitals.

They changed it because of something to do with the size of the districts forming and how the game engine handles it. By making it an outpost they could have a higher district count with less players in each to help with lag. If I remember correctly. So it was more a functional change.

Practically speaking, it's Droks.
Sorry, I felt compelled to point that out.

All I know is, for some reason in Eye of the North my right-click camera pan feels way more sluggish than normal. It seems to happen randomly in other towns/outposts, but almost always in EotN outpost. This is one of the reasons why I try and avoid it at all costs.
Does this happen to anyone else (the right-click camera panning feeling sluggish)? It's not my framerate dipping as it stays at my average.

It was. City = way more people = way laggier, even moreso than it is right now.

Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall are not locations (more like descriptions of the main concept/story elements of the campaigns) whereas the Eye of the North we know is a location within the expansion.
In fact Nightfall by a stretch of the imagination COULD pass for a name of a location but Factions really doesn't.
As others have pointed out, Eye of the north WAS actually a town during the preview so it's obviously not much of a stretch of the imagination to wonder why it isn't an important town (still).
Weird how troll-thought can be broken down ehh?
EDIT: Furthermore, the campaigns were named/re-named like a story whereas the expansion was named to reflect the primary area/location that the expansion was adding to the game (as well as hint at GWEN).

My theory is that the camera is sluggish because you have too many people on screen. Other towns/outposts don't have this as often because people are hidden behind hills/buildings/etc

Better question is why not boat travel to EOTN (and Consulate DOCKS?) so party of 8 can move about more easily.
Zehnchu
It's all Gwen's fault she was left in charge and decided that she needed to throw the wildest party ever seen in the shiver peeks. Unfortunately some one switched her eggnog with spiked eggnog, they think it was a Charr spy anyways she had flash back and burnt eye of the north down till it was an outpost.
maraxusofk
man w/e. i want this to be a main town. its my favorite town in the game jsut cuz its next to the hom. it SHOULD be a main town because it is where one of the talent scouts are for the faction, jsut like rata sum has the asura pone and etc.
Gambit Shinobi
I suppose it'd be cool to turn the large, icy area outside into a town. However, ANet would never go back and make such a drastic change, especially this late in GW's life cycle. Don't keep your hopes up.

I was assuming that it had been changed after the preview weekend for a reason.
As for it's importance I'd say it is still a key outpost in the game, you have to go through there to reach the Hall of Monuments, which is a pretty big part of the expansion, what with the visions and the storyline always going back to that spot.
is boreal station not 8-person party?, you could then use the asura gate for quicker travelling.
Personally I felt it a little odd having 2 cities so close to each other in the preview weekend.
Interestingly on the map EotN is a town whilst Gunnar's Hold is an outpost.

its a hardware issue, people were complaining about lag when it was a main town.
so it IS a main town, its just that reality is getting in the way (as per usual).

Oddly on the boxed map it has it as a Main town icon whereas gunnar's isn't.
Must've been a last minute change kinda thing.

Ideally, the Asura Gate would take you to the GW:EN city of your choice once your character visited there (Gunnars, Doomlore, Rata Sum and the Eye).
Maybe for storyline purposes, this flexibility could come after you've beaten the game, but always mapping from Boreal Station seems pointless.

Doomlore shrines is a town yet has only a few bushes.
Eotn has every main NPC but remains an outpost.

Its not much to look at and its just used as an entrace to the HOM.
GWEN should have got a huge, proper capital city for meeting and trading and it should have been at the entrance to the elite dungeons.
shooshang
Does it matter? lol

Wish it were a city...kinda annoying to map to sometimes if I misclick. But I'm just silly that way and don't pay attention. Nothing too drastic about it.
