GW2 on 'hottest of 2008' list
The Great Al
Forgive me if this was posted already, but... http://www.computerandvideogames.com....php?id=179415
it has an ETA of Winter. I wouldn't be surprised if this was pushed back to maybe spring or summer 09, but I think this pretty much gets rid of the 2010 possible release. Gaile has already said that a gw2 site will be up this year, and it also wouldn't make sense to put up a gw2 site if the game wasn't coming until 2010.

i dont expect i'll have a desire to pick up gw2 for a long time. 8,581 hours over 32 months of gw and i still put in around 5-12 hours a day because theres still things i want to do. whenever they come out with a new expansion i'm like geez i still havent done all i want to do in the very first chapter.

But seriously, that's a lot of hours.

I'm curious as to what the "hottest of 2007" looks like. I bet it has "Hellgate: London" and "Tabula Rasa" in it too.
Recap: pointless.
Your juicy sarcasm is appreciated.

Not an official release date. In fact, that thing is WAY off. They aren't even doing betas yet. Not suprirising considering this is a low key and crummy site.
Don't believe everything you read.

Doesn't surprise me. Some of the other games did though. I think Anet will probably have it out by around April of 09. Just seems like the way they like to do things.

the Idea is cool tho, gotta admit.

The timing will probably end up looking a lot like this: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time

I think the recent UI district change could be somekind of beta testing for GW2 as well where, it is stated in the OP link quote: "Arenanet promise that you'll be able to transfer characters between different servers at will, without cost."
Quote: "You'll now spend your time in a single free-flowing game world, only heading into instances when it's time to move the storyline along.:"
that sound like a good idea. switching between instant and non-instant world at will?
GW2 is also thinking of PUG issue: quote: "If you're just grinding, you'll be able to join up with an AI party, but playing with real-life online humans will net you more experience."
and this is the one thing i look forward to alot: quote: "'The Mist'. Imagine a 24‑hour, 365-day battle and you're pretty much there."
and this above all is the greatest: quote "The good news: they'll never charge a monthly fee for this game."
Finally, its the only game on my list of game to buy no matter when it is release.

I wouldn't want to see them push for a '08 winter release. Please get it right before launching.

If you believe everything you read and hear you'll find that 90% of it turns out to be false in some form or fashion. Highly unlikely GW2 will be out by the end of this year. It will take at least 6 months of beta testing to iron out all the just logging on issues and keeping the game stable. No, it will probably be more around the end of 2009 and possible into 2010 around April. It's the truth honest!! I'm just as in the know as anyone else didn't you know that? If someone tells you I'm not of course they are lying.

However, I have never seen anywhere else that GW2 would be even close to release for 2008. I think either whoever wrote this list got confused between the beta and the actual release (since I think we've known for awhile that it is highly likely the beta will be sometime this year), or Anet is ahead of schedule and think they may have the game completed early. The former, I think, is much more likely. The latter I would not mind, because it means that Anet thinks they have done everything they wanted to do to the game, and delaying the release would not improve it in many ways if that is the case.
I don't really like the idea of playing with a full party of humans will net more xp. I always loved the choices that GW gives us, and it seems that Anet is moving in another direction by trying to give rewards for playing one way over another.
But, then again, I don't remember having read any direct quotes from Anet saying that this will be the case. Does anyone have any other sources that say the same thing, perhaps in an interview or from the original PC Gamer article? I have read that the content will scale, depending on how many people are in the party, so it'd be understandable that more xp will be gained from monsters on the whole, but it would then divide amongst party members, and each member would end up getting roughly the same amount as a solo player.
Of course, none of this impacts my decision of whether or not I will be getting GW2. The only thing that will influence that is if I play the game before release (here's hoping they have an open beta). If there isn't an open beta, and I don't get a chance to try the game first, I will just end up buying it.

Guild Wars 2 sounds awesome though. So hopefully it comes fast cause I"m bored with Guild Wars.
As for Oblivion, it jumps ahead of most games once you add mods too it.

Let them take their time with GW2. There's nothing I hate more than a buggy game release.

Oblivion is far better with even with its level scaling and superior combat system to being killed by a boar at level 20 due to inescapable stun lock in gothic 3. Although I enjoyed both games, oblivion wins for having a lot less bugs and actually being functional out of the box, having mods including ones to fix level scaling and boost your graphics so high that you would need 2x 8800 ultras to play it, superior music, sound and voice acting over any other game, and also for being able to use antialiasing with the Ati hotfix drivers. Oblivion stomps all over gothic 3 in every area. And if gothic 4 is going to be released in such a short timespam over the last one, I dont expect it to be too good.
Im looking forward to sacred 2 next month hopefully.
In the notes on GW2 it says there will be a play with AI feature, and the sidekick system is lower levels playing with higher levels. I thought Anet said there would be no AI and the sidekick system is you and a pet which would be able to play the game 100% solo.
Now this review is suggesting we get henchmen again.

Dead issue. Anet has already set the beta for later this year, with a launch date in the second quarter of 2009. As was said before, they want to get it right, not do a Hellgate and release a beta as a complete game. PC Gamer UK has different editors and writers. It is under the PC Gamer umbrella, but has little to do with them, otherwise.
Oh....go go Football Manager! The Raiders should take some lessons from that game.

Again, why would Gaile say that gw2.com will be up this year, and loads of information will be available to us, if the game isn't going to be out til 2010? I can't imagine it taking another year and a half after the beta goes public, unless the beta turns out to be a total disaster.

Although this caught my attention "Those arenas are now complemented by a persistent skirmish area called 'The Mist'. Imagine a 24‑hour, 365-day battle and you're pretty much there. Anyone can wander in at any point and contribute to the fighting; successful kills and missions are converted into equipment rewards. "

2009 = Half Decent
2010 = Possible Perfection
2011 = End Of The World

Actually according to the legends the world is suppose to end in 2012
Don't see GW lasting until 2011

I'm going to hope for a winter 2009 release. To rush it this year will make as horrible a failure as EotN (which was an advertisement for GW2). Yeah, that's what I'd call "self-fubaring".
I still think that if EotN were released this past winter, it would've been a bit more widely accepted and successful. It was rushed out in summer, and it sucked.
Anyway, a release in late '09 would probably be successful and enjoyable.

Just look at the releases of ANY other game. Lots of info gets released way ahead of time.
Nevin
Here are my predictions (Can't wait to see how many people quote me stating SOURCE YOUR INFO LIAR)
Spring 2008: More hands on information about GW2 given to the public, a few more interviews here and there.
Summer 2008: First glimpse at Alpha screenshots of GW2, along with some videos if we're lucky.
Fall 2008: Closed beta begins for GW2, perhaps access for GW1 Veterans as well? Anet authorized screenshots and videos become more common.
Winter 2008: Open beta begins for GW2, weekends for everyone to access, and now maybe 24/7 access for GW1 Veterans. Media is flooded with player screenshots and videos.
Spring 2009: GW2 is released April, 28, 2009

I think that actually sounds pretty plausible.
With other games, (including GW1) how soon after the closed or open betas does the game get released?

I don't, I think Starcraft suks. I don't like clickfest rts games though anyways. Talk about repetitive play that's what 99.9% of them are, same engine over n over n over again with just a different box cover and game art.
